The promised World Cup modes for FIFA 23 have been leaked ahead of schedule. The official tie-in, which will let players run through the upcoming real-life tournament, popped up early on PS5. But before it was pulled, people managed to take plenty of screenshots, which are now doing the rounds on social media.
Four modes will be made available according to these leaks: FIFA World Cup Live, FIFA World Cup Kick-Off, Online Tournament, and FIFA World Cup 2022. What's more, you'll be able to play as 48 different international teams — that's despite the fact that the real tournament only features 32. We assume these additional squads are those who only just missed out on qualification.
The real World Cup begins in November, by the way, so these modes should be releasing very soon. And if you're wondering why the heck there's a World Cup in the winter, it's because the whole thing's taking place in Qatar. The event is already buried in controversy, but at least you'll be able to fulfil your international footballing fantasies in FIFA 23, hopefully without the human rights violations and rampant corruption.

Remember when the World Cup games let you play as every single FIFA affiliated team? And play them all the way through qualification?
I generally skip FIFA games except for every 4 years to play the World Cup mode, but this is a big "Nope!" for me this year, as with any content on any media related to this scandal that is the World Cup in Qatar.
@Olmaz To be fair, the World Cup was in Russia in 2018. I’m not sure any of the last few World Cups have really been particularly legit. Just depends where the line is for most people.
@nessisonett Russia in 2018 does not even come close to what is happening in Qatar right now. And justifying a bad decision by pointing out another bad one is never a good argument.
But I completely agree that these events (like the Olympics in China and so on) are the pure product of greed and corruption.
But yeah, if I need to draw a line, I'll draw it at death under slavery.
@Olmaz yes. The WC should be boycotted. It's a scandal that the English FA choose to promote LGBTQ rights via an armband in protest to Qatari attitudes to them. The FA doesn't care, it's all posturing and pretense. If the FA really gave a crap they'd boycott the tournament in protest to all the labourers who had their passports confiscated, were forced to work in inhuman conditions and died building the stadia. Back in the 80s we stood up against Apartheid and boycotted going to South Africa. We had integrity. Now we put colourful armbands on a pretend to give a fig about 1 aspect of human rights which is making headlines at the moment because it will make the FA appear to care, whilst totally ignoring the disgusting and tragic loss of life related to the staging of the WC.
Imagine if in staging the WC in Europe tens if not hundreds of people died running up to it, would that be so easily overlooked by all the governing bodies of the sport, let alone mainstream media? Corruption everywhere.
@Olmaz I’m not shocked that certain user(s) pull you up on that as that’s what they do but you are bang on.
@Olmaz Qatar is a mess and David Beckham needs to face accountability for his part in this. However, pointing out that FIFA have always been corrupt is a valid point. If you start boycotting the tournaments now then you’ll really have to start doing it for basically all sporting events.
I won’t be boycotting. We need to make sure that the process is reformed.
OT - I haven’t bought it yet this year but if I see a deal I will pick it up with this and the womens expansion coming.
It’s still shocking you can’t play the career mode as the womens teams.
Sounds like a good mode to play through as the world cup is going on in Nov-Dec.
@ShogunRok "you'll be able to play as 48 different international teams — that's despite the fact that the real tournament only features 32"
Thanks for the clarification, I only marginally follow football/soccer and was a bit confused by the headline. US plays England Black Friday at 2PM, so 7PM your time, that's all I know.
"without the human rights violations and rampant corruption"
I feel like they're counting on LIV golf tournaments for cover. 😝
