Square Enix has released a new trailer for its upcoming PS5 console exclusive Forspoken that focuses entirely on how you'll navigate the open world of Athia using Frey's magical abilities. Governed by a stamina meter, you can dash through the air, ride a magical skateboard, and glide safely down to the ground. The game will be out for PS5 on 24th January 2023.
The game starts you out with the Flow ability, which speeds your run up to the point where you're taking on Usain Bolt in 100m sprints. Next up is the Rush skill, which builds upon Flow by bursting you forward with a quick injection of speed, all the while restoring your stamina. The Shimmy ability then uses the ground as a springboard, launching you forward and covering greater distances. Completing challenges allows you to buy upgrades for all of these skills.
Float and Glide allow Frey to safely land back on the floor without a scratch and then ride a magical mode of transport to get you to places faster. All these abilities can be used in combat too — either to get yourself out of harm's way or to deal damage. Are you looking forward to Forspoken? Let us know in the comments below.

With each new trailer I become more interested even though the first videos were kinda bad... Perhaps, that's the Square Enix marketing department to blame - not the first time in their lives...
Not gonna lie, the lake surfing looks Awesome. The Soar ability which is essentially then Bethesda mountain jank jump made an actually gameplay mechanic is a highlight as well 🤣.
I'm excited for this one merely for it being a new IP amidst a sea of cash grab-remakes, remasters, and iterative sequels.
Hoping this one plays as fun as it looks to play. The encouraging previews of its combat certainly elevated my hype a while back. Couple that with fun traversal, and we could have a gem.
There's a lot I like about Forspoken. These parkour skills not only look cool but also solve the problem a lot of large open world's have of tediously slow exploration from A to B.
@Tomato_Goose Also agreed it gets more interesting with each trailer. And the hands on previews were almost all positive. Fingers crossed.
Game traversal is often overlooked but it makes so much difference in game enjoyment. Well if you like your games in big worlds. Ever since Jak got the hoverboard in Jak 2, which must be like 20 years ago now, I've been saying every game needs faster means of travel.
The horse mechanic in BotW was great but Elden Ring will never be matched for fun and simplicity.
Just finished playing Miles Morales and getting around the city was fun once I figured it out right near the end of the game since I never played Spiderman. I still think Infamous 2 was better but it's been awhile so that may just be nostalgia.🤷
Looking forward to this, but probably not until BF 2023, I'm constantly a year behind, if I'm lucky. Does save me a ton of money though.😂
There is so much potential in this game. The world still feels empty, I'm afraid, but overall I have no doubt I'll greatly enjoy it.
Forspoken r the new deathloop now.....
Am I the only one who simply hates the fact they call it parkour?
Just call it movement. Or traversal. Running through barren fields isn't parkour.
I'm already quite satisfied with traversal in the new Star Ocean game. I'll probably buy Forspoken in a year or so, when most bugs have been fixed and the game is about half in price. Got way too much stuff to play right now
I really wish this game would’ve launched this year. Looks absolutely fun. Also, I feel like I preordered this game years ago! Its starting to remind me of my Last Guardian preorder. Lol.
Very stoked for this game!! A sure buy in 2023!!
@KaijuKaiser sonic frontiers ain’t even out yet , what are you taking about ??
Parkour so hot right now! - 2002
After playing the gorgeous A Plague Tale: Requiem, this looks like a PS4 game.
New york represent playas.this trailer looks amazing.this game is giving dragon dogma a run for best magic in a video games ever.word up son
Looks awesome, first two months of 2023 and we get this and hogwarts legacy 😍
No joke this looks pretty sick.
@ApostateMage Maybe you'll be able to play Forespoken at a frame rate higher than 24fps at least
The visual effects look beautiful. Parkour/magic stuff does look fun, but the rest of it idunno. My excitement for this game is still in the "meh" department. But i'll give it a go likely still.
I just want a solid release date. My unopened PS5 is ready.
The game looks so good but that world is really really empty. I would prefer a smaller map but more cluttered with npcs/enemies/wtv
I've been looking forward to this for a long time, even when people were crapping on it for it's dialogue and such. It does look like it's coming along pretty nicely. I look forward to playing this after I'm done with Crisis Core Reunion.
The more I see the more I think that this game isn't for people like me. I was excited when I first saw this new IP, and was kind of thinking day one purchase, it looked new and exciting, but I'm becoming less likely to ever buy this :/
When I first saw the parkour in the original reveal years ago, it looked and seemed really cool. But thinking about it more, I don't really want an open world game that is so bland to explore that you have to whizz and zoom through it to make it bearable. I want to take my time because it is filled with stuff to see and do, but the fact that the main mechanic is that you can sprint and leap across the map has meant they have had to design this big rocky open area with no fantastical quality about it, because there would be no point in featuring travelling a mile in a minute if you missed all the details they crafted on the way, so they didn't bother crafting them.
Compare it to Elden Ring, the feeling I got from that when I exited the first door was, ooh this is amazing! That over there looks really nice, and that too! I'll get to go and see those at some point, and the journey to reach it will be epic
I wish I was still hyped, and I truly hope the story saves this game (as that's what matters to me most as well as immersion) because the combat looked draining in previews I've seen too :/
This is going to be such a great game, every trailer is looking even better than the one before. Now it seems like it will be a lot of fun to play as well, even simply going through the environments without a clear goal. I'm hooked on PS Plus Premium at the moment, but this definitely will be a first day buy.
@KilloWertz I'll be playing the same two games from December on. I guess I'll have to give PS Plus a rest even though I'm enjoying it a lot at the moment.
@Darude84 Cool. Yeah, with the rest of the year and the first few months of next year, new games will likely dominate a lot of people's playtime. The last few months were for catching up a bit, but it doesn't look like things will let up much for a while.
January's def gonna be a packed month for me between this and Dead Space Remake heh.
Normally I would not buy two $70 games in the same month, but it's my birthday month so making an exception.
