Sony’s new loyalty scheme PS Stars is now available in the PS App across North and South America, meaning you can begin completing campaigns, earning digital collectibles, and amassing points based on your PS Store purchases. Rewards include free games and credit towards your next PS5 and PS4 purchases – and it’s free to join.
While this is just the beginning of the program, Sony has plans to expand the functionality to the PS5 console itself, where you’ll be able to display digital collectibles as part of your profile and more. Those of you in Europe will still have to wait a little longer, until 13th October, 2022, to participate, however.
Are you going to check out PS Stars at all? What are your impressions of the program at launch, and where do you think it needs to improve? And if you need help, you can check out our PS Stars guide for more information.

Why call it a scheme? All loyalty programs are the same, their purpose is to increase consumption and engagement.
Sure, I’ll get some free digital trophies and maybe go for some challenges if they don’t require me to play terrible games or spend money. I suspect I won’t engage much given those criteria though.
Absolutely abysmal compared to the other companies reward scheme. Gamepass is basically free with very minimal effort and with this you get $0.20 back for buying a full price game lol! Really hope it improves over time cause as of now it's pointless.
@Ssimsim
As I understand it, there are specific tasks related to playing games, earning trophies, etc. but you also get them for spending money.
Just a heads-up, the service isn't retroactive, so any trophies you earned before the service are worth jackshit.
All in all, its free so I ain't losing nothing, but it could be better for those who already spent both time and money on the platform.
@CielloArc
That’s disappointing. But as all tasks are likely to relate to new games I guess it doesn’t make any difference.
@Americansamurai1 Not sure about across the pond but in the UK we use the word "scheme" interchangeably with "program", it has no negative connotations in this context.
@get2sammyb any info on the funds side? like what does a 70 purchase give you back? or is that part releasing later?
Genuinely makes Nintendo’s paltry gold coins seem generous. Not to even mention MS Rewards. It’s better than nothing I guess.
My thoughts are: I hope the reward rate is better than Sony Rewards had. Judging from the challenges they've got up now, I don't see myself buying or playing any of the crappy games they're trying to promote.
@stvevan someone who bought Inscrytion ($20) said they got 214 points for it. Possibly the rate is 1 point for every 10 cents (including tax?), which would mean you'd need to spend $125 to redeem $5 (1250 points).
I didn't see any mention of it in my PS app on my phone so I clicked thru the link on Twitter to the Sony website to try and sign up there and got a reply saying there was up to a 2 month wait list. That's some loyalty right there.😝
You get 50 points if you buy a top end game and if you collect 17500 points u can get a full price game ..... Not much then lol
And a diorama is 200 points
@Milktastrophe Thanks
I collect my Nintendo rewards for each Switch game I rent off GameFly
Nintendo only gives me 0.60c for a $60 Switch game at retail. But as a bonus for renting a game is pretty decent.
I'll play the Sony reward game also... nothing to loose.
It's definitely interesting 🤔
The fact that it's completely free and not tied to PS Plus is what's winning me over.
I'll give it a go when it gets to Europe.
Im going to sign up for it today.
@rjejr
I just did it on the Site. My First try from the link said it was "not available"
Closed the site and logged in first and then tried the link from a google search and it let me join.
I'm in the states so maybe different, but I did get rejected the first time.
@Ooccoo_Jr didn't know that. In the U S. It means your up to something like sneaky.
I got put on a wait list. May take up to 2 months. Seriously?
I would recommend PlayStation users do Microsoft rewards and buy PlayStation credit with it thats what i do
you dont even have to have an xbox to do it
I'm logged into the service now. The only one I don't understand is the "Hit Play/1994" campaign. The description says to "Launch the game matching a c.1994 song". Hmm. I guess "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen would be Streets of Rage 4? Gonna try it.
Also, it sucks that I can't claim that I bought TMNT Collection retroactively towards the Playstation Store Picks campaign. Oh well.
@trev666
Started that this month for something to do on the commute. 3 accounts. About 250 points per day on each. 7.600 points for a £5 Amazon voucher…about £15 per month for 20 minutes a day that would otherwise be wasted. That’ll go towards PSVR2 games that are unlikely to crowd the shelves.
@trev666 You don't need an Xbox for MS rewards and you can buy Playstation credit? I had no idea you could do that. How does that work then?
@Agramonte I'm in New York so still part of the states at the moment, but for something like this I can't be bothered to make another effort. I mean, shouldn't they have sent out emails to prospective individuals by now? I've had a Sony account since the PS3 days, Sony credit card, PS+ for 6 or 7 years, why not email people about this ahead of time? 🤷♂️
@tenthAvatar where I from scheme usually mean up to something sneak, but different people get different meaning no biggie
@KaijuKaiser nope we really do use the word scheme for this.
the other meaning of scheme wouldnt even make sense
@Ooccoo_Jr
You can’t directly buy PlayStation credit, but you can use the ms points to redeem Amazon vouchers that you can the. Use for PSN top up or plus subscriptions.
Was able to join, but quite the hassle. It often just stayed grayed out when I tried to continue. Also said a couple times that I am not eligible, but then went through. I saw an asterisk saying could take up to 2 months to join. As of now I'm in. Level 1. Won't go up much this year, but nice to have a chance at free stuff. Good luck signing up all.
Some people have to wait 2 months? This isnt ready for roll out and it seems weak anyway. At least its free i guess.
@rjejr
100% with you.
Well for 16 years of loyalty I just got a rotating PS3 icon. That I seem not able to do anything with - but look at it rotate on the App 🤷♂️
But it says "Heroic" on it so must be good 😅
So far you are not missing much. Doubt I will ever check on this again.
Why do I have to be put on a wait list to join a rewards program? How ridiculous.
From the comments it sounds like it's absolutely crap
@Agramonte When My Nintendo Rewards members are making fun of your rewards program, you are most certainly doing it wrong. They even copied Nintendo and it's only in the app, not on the $500 PS5. 😂
Joined today. I live in Brazil. Let's see how it develops.
Nothing to be lost here for sure, so I’ll give it a shot but the jury will be out for quite some time on this (at least in my book) to REALLY see how much value it has.
@thetraditional you have to guess what game the song title describes. So go west I think is Death Stranding. And more human than human is Detroit Become Human.
Or, just wait until someone figures it all out and posts it online.
I don’t know why I thought this was going to be cooler than it is. It’s a thinly veiled way to get you to buy more digital games. That’s it, really.
Tried earlier to join but it didn't work. I couldn't care less about digital profile icons.
It didn’t work for me and I’m in N America. I got an error message saying this is not yet in your region. So????
@redd214 Yup. I've been paying $0.99 / month for gamepass for a while. I'm surprised MS hasn't stopped the easy loophole.
@DukeeDukems I was moreso referring to the Gamepass rewards program they have. You can get ~$10 a month taking 5 mins a day doing random searches on Bing, add in the quests and all that and you're looking at $20 a month easily. Haven't payed a single cent out of pocket for GP all year.
just say NO to schemes!
Stars is terrible, I gotta drop $6000 just to get a "free" game. I will stick with my Best Buy rewards thank you.
@CielloArc
haha are you serious? did you really expect Sony to give money for previously won trophies? Of course it doesn't work that way. Although it would have been nice of course. Why do companies nowadays have to do everything retroactively? Sony is a company that are not there to please us.
Well, I’m a member of Stars, which only feels nice because I’m a Resident Evil fan and… well, if you get it, you get it, I suppose.
That said, I’ve got two little digital things now. Great? As of right now, I’m really not sure how this project works, and judging by what others are saying and my interpretation of the website, it’ll take literal years to get anywhere with it. At least with MyNintendo rewards, the platinum coins can be used for little tiny physical things. I foresee this project getting compared negatively to the Xbox Rewards
Or I can just buy brand new releases on sale a couple of months later and spend less than I would be rewarded. Embarrassing scheme.
Already signed up for the service, looking forward to seeing what the future holds for it.
