Three of the Assassin’s Creed games being added to PS Plus as part of this month’s PS Plus Extra update will not be playable on PS5. Sony clarified in its PS Blog post that Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will only be available on PS4 – presumably due to issues with PS5 backwards compatibility.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate specifically is one of the very few high profile PS4 games with significant bugs on PS5. While the London-based adventure is ultimately playable, there are enormous graphical glitches which undermine the entire experience. Earlier this year, Ubisoft Support said it was working on an update for the open world game, but we now notice that message has since been deleted.
It’s something to keep in mind then before you dig into the latest selection of All PS Plus Games. Will you be digging out your old console to revisit these titles, or will you just be overlooking them considering their lack of compatibility with the PS5? So it's a ubisoft problem then. Hopefully they fix it soon.
Works so far on ps5 , I bought them through ps store , it'll be a Sony issue most likely. Though an error does come up that you may experience strange behavior whilst playing this game in ps5 but on the menu and no issues so far. Also Sammy why did you say syndicate? Isn't India,China and Russia ? As syndicate has got nothing to do with that trilogy unless its only 2 games out the trilogyand syndicate. If that's the case, it's technically not a trio 🤔
@Dr_Luigi it's the spinoff games in China, India and Russia that are 2d platformer ; nothing to do with syndicate
You’d think Ubisoft would fix this given the exposure that comes from being in Extra. Guess they just don’t think it’s worth it given most will likely still be playing in PS4.
Can you actually download them on ps5?
@johnny30
My guess is he meant "a" trilogy of games as opposed to the trilogy of side scrollers. I wonder why AV China is playable as it was the first of the side scrollers but the others are not. 🤷♂️
Yh I seen a Mystic youtube vid about this a couple weeks ago where he's playing PS4 games through PS5 backwards compatibility and AC Syndicate had really off putting glitches in the graphics, impossible to avoid as you played. No biggie for me as Black Flag, Origins or Odyssey are the ones that interest me more if I wanna jump in. My PS4 has been collecting dust under my under my tv since getting a PS5 so if need be it's no problem
@Dr_Luigi
I rather enjoy Syndicate. Replaying it now on Steam Deck. Evie is still one of my favorite protagonists. She's an ass kicking badass! She's up there with Ezio, Edward Kenway, and Kassandra.
This is fkn ridiculous. Ubisoft Help confirmed on Twitter that there will be no fix for Syndicate because “no one ist working on this game anymore”. WTF
@Kang81 I'm playing assassins creed chronicles right now , Russian ps5 no issues ,likely ps+ that's the issue
*Ubisoft Support
@Boucho11 yip work fine
The chronicles games are no big loss but it is a shame they won't/can't fix Syndicate. Outside of PC, PS4 is the best Syndicate experience. It is one of the reasons I still have a PS4 connected to my TV even though I have a PS5.
@johnny30
Nice. Did you say you were also playing Syndicate? No flickering issues, or did I misread your earlier comment?
Surely Sony could patch the Games themself if they want to. Ubisoft did let Microsoft patch multiple AC Games to run at 60 FPS
How come there's never an article when they add ps5 games that obviously aren't playable on PS4 lol
@Kang81 nah played assassins creed chronicles india/Russia. Via backwards compatibility on ps5 downloaded from ps store as bought them in sale on ps store a while back. I said it's likely syndicate will probably work unless it's an separate issue as not part of the trilogy. Probably ps+ that's an issue
I think Sony wanted to force Ubisoft to fix issues by putting the games on PS Plus. People will most likely complain about the issues since they will be able try these games.
You will be able to stream the games to a PS5, so not really unplayable.
@EpicMouse Sony's not pulling the rug out from under Ubisoft to try to force them to do anything. Ubisoft themselves have decided to add these games, because they're adding them to Ubisoft+ Classics which is part of PS+ Extra.
@Kang81 If you're sensitive to flickering lights I'd advise against playing Syndicate on PS5. It has 5/5 graphical corruption, and it's really really bad. It's "playable", but no one in their right mind would play the game like that. Even if you aren't sensitive, I'd be willing to bet after a short session you'll have a headache or eye discomfort.
Ubisoft are a bunch of clowns.
Any tips on which AC games to play first on PS5? The selection on PS Plus is a bit overwhelming. I didn’t like the setting of Valhalla but loved the first one or two AC’s back when they came out. Haven’t played any of the others.
It's very weird since I played those three games recently on my PS5. I did get the "these games might not work" warning but I was able to play through and complete them without trouble.
That being said, these games are mediocre at best and AC Russia is just downright terrible to play.
Don't worry guys. Ubisoft will save the day with a $70 remaster of Syndicate for PS5. 🤩
@Darude84
If you enjoyed the first two assassin's Creed games then your next step is to play the Ezio collection. They're a connected trilogy of 2, Brotherhood and at last revelations. From there you can give Creed 3 a try, though that one has a slower start than other games. If you want what many consider to be the "best" of the old style of AC games then you should give 4 "Black Flag" a try, it's standalone DLC is freedom Cry. Rogue is a bit like a side story but basically used the same engine and mechanics like ship battles and whatnot. Assassin's Creed Liberation came out around this time as well but be mindful that it's a Vita port and plays a bit more like 3 instead of 4, which a much smaller scope.
Unity was the series' attempt at a multiplayer co-op Assassin's Creed and was the first in the series to be primarily developed on PS4. It had some stumbles in terms of gameplay while Syndicate (which apparently doesn't work on PS5) refined what Unity did while returning to single player focused story, though you get to control two assassins which gave you a lot of flexibility in how you chose to approach the game.
Starting with Origin the game takes a different angle in terms of gameplay and mechanics and it's a dividing point for a lot of fans, I dropped the series here myself but give it a shot, you might like it. Oddessy is the next game in line which seemed to be accepted very favorably and then we have Valhalla, the never ending game that keeps getting more content.
Oh and the "chronicles" collection of assassin's Creed games are side scroller arcade-y style of assassin's Creed. If you want to give them a try I recommend starting with China and then India as Russia is both the hardest and, in my personal opinion, the worst of them.
Hope all that helped!!
Unacceptable in my opinion that Syndicate is a wreck on PS5. That should not count as an available game on the PS Plus service.
Played assassin's creed from the first game and loved it. Played them all right up until black flag and then I gave up. I was burnt out and couldn't take anymore. I was interested in the Viking one but not enough to actually play it. Shame really because at one point I was a huge fan of the series
It's such a shame. I can live with the Chronicles ones not being playable but Syndicate is among my favorites of the series. I might just have to just buy it again on Xbox when it's on sale here soon. Sure I still have my PS4 but hooking it up next to my PS5 just seems kind of redundant! 😅
@Darude84 I generally start with AC 2 and go from there, but having recently played that game for the first time in a good while, I have to warn that combat is annoying because every enemy parries your counter kill moves. AC Brotherhood and Revelations are much more forgiving in that aspect
@johnny30 it's a case of high quality control I think, admiteddly something we aren't used to nowadays. If there's a chance something could go wrong, Sony will mark the game as not recommended for ps5, even not list it.
Though you can still buy them on a PS4,or mobile and then download to your ps5.I bought nfs this way on a deep discount sale, and I didn't experience any issues for the fairly brief time I played it.
Who cares, know one is going to play them anyways
@supergurr This is the reason why they don't care about AC tbh
@Uncharted2007 last of us is an a example of that
I enjoyed Syndicate back then. Sure, it was more of the same and the formula was getting stale, but isolated it's a good game. Too bad Ubisoft doesn't feel that the return of investment justifies a patch.
I like it way more than the celebrated AC IV (which feels kinda boring after a while with all islands being essentially the same).
Do we know how long these games will stay on the service ? I want to play them accordion to their leave date so I don't miss out on them
Good. AS games are trash
Tell me you have no idea what you're talking about, by telling me you have no idea what you're talking about...
All three games will be 'playable' on the PS5, they just have visual issues. Now, you won't see them on the PS5 console but you can claim them on a PS4, the app or the website, then you can download them on the PS5 via your library.
You obviously didn't realise both Star Trek and Werewolves were exactly the same due to BC issues. They work but you have to claim them before you can download on the PS5.
You'd have thought someone who writes for this site would know these things...
Won't be digging out my PS4 anytime soon to play any of them because, well let's say my once PS4 has a new owner. Traded it for the ps5 lol. Oh well.
@IonMagi Microsoft did not patch those games; Origins and Odyssey were patched by Ubisoft (same on PS5). If you're referring to the other enhanced AC titles, those were achieved via Xbox's fps boost feature. From Digital Foundry: "...adjust frame-rate caps at the Direct3D level, increasing performance within the system, without any changes at all to the original code". See these articles from Eurogamer for more info on how fps boost works:

@ATaco Thank you so much! I’ll definitely use this as a guide line.
@johnny30 Firstly it clearly states the Trilogy and "additionally" Syndicate have issues. Nowhere does it imply Syndicate is part of the trilogy.
Further, if you, also read the helpfully included links you'd find out it's a Ubisoft issue and then not spend your time misinforming people with wild guesses.
It's no wonder the internet is so full of misinformation when people are handed information on a plate but would rather spend time misinforming people, with speculation than read the facts.
@Eldritch it wasn't clear which is why I asked. Also I've got the games of the chronicles trilogy and they work , ive literally been playing them downloaded from the ps store . Syndicate is a separate issue so No I'm not misinforming people . Syndicate is ubisoft issue but will likely not be fixed as its an old game . However the fact that the chronicles games don't work on ps+ but from my experience work downloaded from ps store seems to me a Sony issue and if its not the case then also unlikely that will be fixed as again old game no one on ubisoft is working on them
@johnny30 Seemed clear to me.
And you were misinforming people. You said to Kang81, in your reply to his question about about Syndicate...
"Probably ps+ that's an issue"
Your words, not mine.
@johnny30 There is something about working and working without graphical issues and Syndicate is one of their best and they dont fix what a dissapointment.
I'm playing Unity, started yesterday. Gonna dust up the PS4 and download those games to be ready to play when the time comes. I was getting ready to buy AC Syndicate, india and Russia. Now I won't need to. Aside from AC1, all main Assassin's Creed games will be playable on PS4/5!!
AC Chronicles plays just fine on PS5; I platinumed it on that console earlier this year.
Really shoddy of Ubisoft to put AC Syndicate on PS+ without the PS5 patch. Shows they have zero intention of fixing it.
@Darude84 Go with release order.
Who cares. The AC series hasn't been good since Blackflag. Repetitive gameplay, no real up to date graphics. Just a cash cow for Ubisoft, same as the Far cry series.
@Darude84 assassin's Creed Origins is great on PS5 as it's been patched for 4K and 60fps and it's a great game but the BEST Assassin's Creed game to play in PS5 is Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It's also been patched to run at 4K & 60fps but it's probably the biggest game I've ever played. I've got 70hours + into the game and still haven't completed the game (I did get the version that has ALL the content ever made for Odyssey). It's truly breathtaking & by far the best of the newer AC games. Valhalla was truly the biggest disappointment for me, sure it looks great on PS5 but they destroyed the movement and fighting mechanics because now it's tied to a ridiculous stamina bar.
AC Origins & AC Odyssey are phenomenal games and have been patched to be even better on PS5. Hope this helps, happy gaming ✌️
@Dr_Luigi Syndicate is my favorite Evie alone makes it the best one. If they would have dropped the filler missions and added the DLC to the base game it would have been a classic especially the Jack the Ripper DLC.
@cali_kush70 Thank you all for the replies! I’ll try to play them in chronological order and if I would get bored I switch to Odyssey first.
@evan23 @Greifchen How the bloody heck can Ubisoft get away with not fixing AC Syndicate?
That's a shame, Syndicate was really good and I was looking forward to it on PS5. I still have my PS4 but i dunno about setting it up for this one game.
@KidBoruto From the outside, it isn't clear to me who should be responsible for fixing it to be honest.
The game works as-designed on PS4, the platform Ubisoft made it for. It feels like the fact that it doesn't work on PS5 should be Sony's problem as much as Ubisoft's.
Since they seemed to have been working on it and have made other changes to enhance Assassin's Creed games for 60fps I am guessing it turned out to be more investment than they were willing to spend to make it work on PS5.
Either way, it is disappointing.
I love syndicate, one of my favorite AC games. Glad I own and can play it on my XSX.
@evan23 I still have my PS4, but unsure if I'm willing to reset it up just to play one game like @MattBoothDev said.
@UltimateOtaku91
Sorry, but they said themselves they aren’t gonna fix it. Ig they don’t got enough time to quickly make a successful patch and make a game (that comes out next year) at the same time. 🙄
@Darude84 try odyssey or any of the old ones.
AC: China and India are downloadable and playable on PS5 afterall. Only one that actually was affected by this was Syndicate.
@awp69 I checked yesterday and all 3 games (Russia, India and Syndicate) were there to download on PS5 Extta list (China works fine, never had problems of retrocompatibility). I'm geting ready to dust up my PS4, but waiting here too if something changed,.
@Constable_What
I'm not, but the game would definitely give me major headaches playing too long.
I just had a similar bug in Cyberpunk on Steam Deck. Thank God I'm not prone to seizures, because I would have had one today. It only lasted about 30 seconds, ut I did get a headache from it.
@Kang81 Imagine that Cyberpunk bug, but it's always happening on buildings in the background. It's the worst graphical corruption I've ever seen in a released product!
