Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is getting a PS5 port in spring 2023, publisher NIS America has announced. The slick action RPG originally released for PS4 in February 2021, and, for the record, plays at a smooth 60 frames-per-second on PS5 — but this native version will sport all of the game's cosmetic DLC. The official press release doesn't mention any other enhancements.
Unfortunately, we wouldn't bet on Ys IX having any kind of upgrade path if you already own the game on PS4. Its predecessor, the excellent Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, is also being ported to PS5 next month, and it's been confirmed that there'll be no upgrade option for existing PS4 players.
Oh, and it's worth noting that you can play both Ys VIII and Ys IX right now if you're subscribed to PS Plus Extra. For fans of the genre, we'd heartily recommend them.

Was going to play this on Extra, but then thought I should play 8 first, then got demotivated by reading about the enemy scaling of that game (I usually research this gamebreaking “feature” before committing to a hundred hours in a JRPG)…so decided to play megadimension neptunia vii instead.
Hopefully this version is on Extra by the time I get to it.
Just wanted to say you called it Ys XI in the article 😂
Should be at least a free upgrade for the base game.
I wonder if a physical PS5 version is in the cards? Damn near impossible to find a reasonably priced PS4 copy in my country, cheapest I can get is $105 on ebay.
The only Ys game I have played was Ys III: Wanderers From Ys on Super Nintendo. It was a good Zelda II type of side-scroller, along with manga style scenes. It seemed really cool in the early 90s.
@JustPlainLoco Same here. I love the series and played all games but this one due to the ridiculous price for the physical copy for the PS4.
@Miles_Edgeworth That mistake has been a long time coming. My muscle memory goes straight to XI because of Dragon Quest XI. Thanks for pointing it out!
Figured this would come to PS5 also, since YS 8 is releasing next month. Already pre-ordered a physical copy of YS 8 and I'll do the same with this, especially since I missed out on the PS4 release of both games (have Switch versions)
@JustPlainLoco i think NISA will release it they have a good record with their releases especially when they can package it in a nice expensive edition. 🤪
If Ys VIII's PS5 version ends up being worthwhile, then I'll happily buy this one as well as I've yet to play a Ys game. Otherwise I will just turn to their PS4 versions on Extra.
I am glad I waited on this, been wanting to play it.
Playing 8, 9 on burnet. Don’t see any reason to release a PS5 version, it’s not gonna help anything.
