Looks like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has recast the role of Harry Osborn, with star Scott Porter revealing he will not return for the sequel in a now-deleted tweet. Porter, who also plays Heimdall to perfection in God of War Ragnarok, alluded to the fact that developer Insomniac Games had decided to go “photo real” with its casting in the hotly anticipated PS5 successor, and “the difference between me and Harry’s ages was too much to overcome I believe”.
It’s a particularly interesting comment, as during the transition from Marvel’s Spider-Man to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Insomniac Games controversially changed the face of Peter Parker to better match voice actor Yuri Lowenthal’s performance capture.
Nevertheless, those of you who’ve played Marvel’s Spider-Man and its spin-off Miles Morales will know that Harry is poised to have a huge role in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Porter admitted that while he’s “bummed” not to be returning, it’s going to be an “incredible game”. He’s since removed the tweets.
While there’s no word on who will play Harry in the sequel, this is the first snippet of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 news we’ve had in a while, so it’s still interesting information. Are you disappointed to see Porter recast, or excited to see who comes in next? Web us up in the comments section below.

TIL Heimdall is in Ragnarok, before I met him in Ragnarok, thanks to an article about... Spider-Man 2. FML.
@Marquez Yeah, I was very disappointed when reading that as well. I get that it’s only a character, but now it’s going to be on my mind when I play the game, wondering when or how I’ll encounter him. I find it a little distasteful to even include that snippet.
Crazy to think that it's been over a year since we last heard or saw anything substantial about this game.
I platted Spider-Man. I don't even remember Harry being in it.
@Marquez In all fairness, this is the last GOW game set in the Norse era, I just expect them all to be in the game.
Porter being recast doesn't really bother me but I have to say that he did a good job as Harry in the 2018/Remastered games. He did play a minor role but still, solid performance overall. I still have high hopes for Spider-Man 2 next year.
How strange. I'm still fully convinced they just wanted to make Peter just look more like Tom Holland because it sure doesn't look like Yuri imo.
As for this situation it's a bit different since we never really saw a character model for Harry so it shouldn't be too weird but still. I wonder why only Spider-Man seems to want to make changes like this in Playstation 1st party.
@Marquez I mean, it's Ragnarok. I know that everyone does not know about Norse mythology but Heimdall rallies the troops at the start of Ragnarok by blowing Gjallarhorn.
That’s a shame to be honest, Scott Porter’s a great actor and he clearly was looking forward to having more of a role this time.
@Athrum I think you may have inadvertently compounded my problem...
@MFTWrecks he wasn't, just his voice he was supposedly on a trip to Europe but of course the truth is he has an illness & is undergoing experiments to try & cure him which will turn him into green goblin in the next game I assume
He had a pretty small role all things considered in the first game, so it isn't a huge shift imo.
Still, kind of a bummer all the same for Scott Porter.
It's weird how game to game with Spider-Man we seem to be getting tiny little retcons already, considering it's only 1 and a half games into its life right now.
@Marquez I didn't know who he was till I met him in the game so this wouldn't have spoiled anything for me other than there's a character called Heimdall in it at some point if you have heard of him though then you'd know he was in it since it's a game about Ragnarok lol
@MFTWrecks same. There were the OsCorp roof science stations, but I don't remember Harry narrating any of them, I thought Peter did.
Edit: and I believe there was a very spoiler scene, but Harry didn't speak, that showed where we was during the events of the game.
I hate that they are doing this. First Peter now Harry. It's really torn the attachment I had from the first game away. I dont feel the investment to play the second as much now.
These reasons for not including the original actors is beyond stupid. The moment you're slightly not youthful enough anymore, your ass is tossed out. Sad.
@Marquez FML? Over that? 😂
@Starkei Let's just say I am incredibly spoiler averse to the extent that when my son has been playing the game I've gone upstairs and waited for his session to finish...
Shame about him losing the role, but not a bother for me personally, since I can't remember what he sounded like even after replaying the game earlier this year.
@MFTWrecks If I'm remembering correctly, he barely is. Aside from one very quick "on camera" appearance, his part is all voice mails to Peter.
Gee, thanks, Push Square. I've already (much to my frustration) been forced to rush through the story for Ragnarok. I wanted to take my time with it, I waited 4 and a half years to see how the story would end, after all. I decided to not read any articles about, or reviews for, the game to avoid any spoilers and then you throw that line in there! I should have known that character would be in the game, but I'd have liked to have found that out for myself.
I'm gonna go all Game of Thrones on your *ss with my shame bell!
Shame! Shame! Shame!
For a PlayStation centered website, it certainly enjoys telling everyone to avoid spoilers whilst giving away things themselves (however minor they may be). Ragnarok has been out to the general public for less than a week. We're not all gaming journalists that were able to complete this game over a week ago....
I prefer the faces closer to their original counterparts from the comincs. I couldn't imagine the newspapers guy any other than what he looks in Toby's spiderman and or harry in general was perfectly casted there. The new age spiderman just too... The far away from home was so boring I stopped halfway and never returned to it. I wish they stopped trying to replicate movie/voice actors and focus more on the comics looks.
@Would_you_kindly spoiler for anyone who hasn't played the first game, yet: not sure if remember correctly, but isn't there a mission (side mission) at the end, where you break into his father's laboratory and you can see Harry in one of the tubes filled with green water and that's when you realize the wasn't on a trip to Europe at all, but undergoes treatment?
@mazzel yeah can't remember exactly but I think it was a glass chamber with black tentacles which would allude to venom but knowing his origins it's much more likely Harry will be the green goblin
@Would_you_kindly yeah something like this... I mean the picture here shows Harry beside venom, so let's see what they have planned for us
Also, Venom should be an Alien not something created in a Chamber, so you might be right about the Goblin
ok , never cared about harry anyway , just spider-man/black cat and the villains .
@Would_you_kindly Well yeah. I remember we "saw" him in that one part. But like... He wasn't in the game.
Why does anyone care that his "look changed?" This makes no sense. Lol
@TwoPieceTanookiSuit what an overreaction. This article caused you to rush through Ragnarok? Let's be realistic people, knowing X character is in a game doesn't spoil anything. Did you guys hear Aerith is in FF7 Remake? Oops, spoiler warning.
@Milktastrophe kinda think he's rushing through the game so he'll be done and can stop worrying about spoilers (even inadvertent ones like this here article).
Luckily I don't care about this game but if I did, I'd call that Heimdall line a spoiler. A major spoiler? Of course not. But it does spoil a brief moment of revelation, yes. Which, in games driven by character and story, is kinda what it's all about.
But for some reason the staff on this site (and many users) are never willing to acknowledge they may have inadvertently spoiled some small bit of fun. Kinda disappointing really.
I'm sure the replacement actor will do a great job, looking forward to playing Spider-Man 2 still.
