Diablo 4 will target an April 2023 release date, according to fresh rumours from XboxEra, which have been backed up by Windows Central. Officially, the action RPG is on track for an entirely vague 2023 launch. Given that the game's closed beta test is currently ongoing, a full release in the first half of next year does make sense.
What's more, we may be in for an official release date announcement at The Game Awards, which takes place on the 8th December. That would give Blizzard roughly five months of room for the title's no doubt robust marketing campaign. Again, it all lines up.
The first half of 2023 is shaping up to be utterly absurd for new games, by the way. It's genuinely one of the most impressive release schedules we've ever seen — or thereabouts. Throw Diablo 4 into the mix and it just gets even more insane.
Are you looking forward to Diablo 4, or are you just cautiously optimistic? Go back to hell in the comments section below.

Sounds awesome, I've been waiting for the next Diablo for ages. Hope, it will be good.
I am cautiously optimistic here but also realllyyyyy hoping for something great. I hope the business and money making does not break things "cough, marketplace, cough"
It's a sad indictment on modern gaming that I do not trust them to not monetize the ***** out of this.
If this game is riddled with monetization then it's a pass from me. I don't mind it with free to play games, but full priced £60-£70 games, nah. That's just pure greed.
CoD gets talked about a lot, but is Diablo not in danger of being a Microsoft exclusive?
@Jey887 good old days, when you buy game only once and play everything out of it...
Still hope there won't be any pay-walls in a premium title. But time will show, of course.
I could be looking forward to this, but not sure yet. Blizzard didn’t exactly instill me with confidence with Overwatch 2 or really anything they’ve done after Overwatch 1’s first anniversary, to be honest.
I really used to like Blizzard, but I dunno. Feels like they’re just a cog in the Activision machine nowadays. Almost surprised they’re not working on CoD support at this point. Loved other Diablo games, StarCraft, WarCraft, etc. I would still probably play WarCraft 2 if I… uh… still had a PC (weird how the world has changed where you don’t need one anymore… seems like it used to be such an essential thing before, but then again, so did a TV subscription! Uh, anyway….)
@ppitchfork Diablo 4 is already confirmed to be coming to playstation, can't say it will be the same with Diablo 5 though.
They lost me with Immortals.
It should not have been pay to win, let alone having people that spent £10,000 on the game being one shot killed by people who paid £100,000. It completely ruined PVP.
That kind of exploitation should be illegal.
I will never buy a Diablo game again, but good luck to anyone hoping to enjoy this.
@ppitchfork In the long run yes. But that won’t apply to Diablo 4. Microsoft assimilates company slowly so I doubt it will change anything for PlayStation owners next year.
Played Diablo 1 and 2 a tonne back in the day but these days it's hard to get excited about anything Blizzard does.
As someone that still plays Diablo 3 and has a insane amount of playtime in it. I cant say how excited i am for this one. Diablo is a top 5 all time franchise for me. Really hope they can hit that date. 2023 for the whole industry is going to be insane. All 3 of the Big 3 are set to release a lot of stuff that got pushed out of 2022 and then the stuff that was set for 2023 to go along with it. Gamers get your wallets out. 2023 is coming for the cash haha
Q1 2023 maybe brings first "coming soon" (Blizzard registered trademark).
@somnambulance Sorry to hear you ain’t into Overwatch 2. I am loving it and its my most played game since it came out in a while. I play 4-5 hours a day of it. It’s got a few kinks to work out. But very fun and competitive which i like. I know what you mean about not needing a PC. I have a PC for gaming and while i do enjoy it, i find myself playing on PS5 and Xbox Series X way more. I use my 12.9 inch iPad Pro with a keyboard way more then my PC for browsing, reading , shopping, email etc etc. let’s hope Blizzard can get back to their ways like Capcom did, cause when Blizzard is right they are among the best in the industry. I expect Diablo 4 to be a masterpiece. Maybe Microsoft will help pay for a StarCraft project. It’s been to long since that series has had some love.
Can't wait for this. Im still playing Diablo 2 Resurrected constantly.
N.i.c.e.Diablo 3 is amazing.i still need to finish that game before buying diablo 4.word up son
@Green-Bandit Overwatch 2 is ok. I don’t hate it, but it’s a glorified sort of update to Overwatch 1. Not a fan with what they did to my good friend Bastion. I enjoyed it fair enough, but it doesn’t really seem like a new game, so I sort of just kept going with Splatoon and Ghostbusters: Unleashed for mp time. If Blizzard does right by Diablo, 4 will absolutely be a masterpiece. It’s such a weird game because I have no idea how it’ll turn out. 10 years ago, I’d know it’d be a 9/10 or better because it was Blizzard. Nowadays, jeez, I’m just hoping it’s not a game that’s just “there.”
@ppitchfork a Diablo 5 is almost certainly going to be Xbox|PC only, but up to this date MS has not canceled any game from going to PS so quickly after it making an acquisition.
I would say expect any non-CoD game announced after the acquisition closes to skip PS, even if it’s part of a long running series.
With how mw2 and ow2 went, I'm very skeptical about this one. Might play d3 instead.
@Green-Bandit Why did you feel the need to tell everyone the exact size of your iPad? 🤣
@somnambulance well Warcraft 2 was actually on ps1 if you really really want to play it..good luck finding a copy however
@somnambulance i mean you make a valid point about both Overwatch 2 and blizzard in general. I can’t deny what you said. It’s all true. But for me, I didn’t play much of Overwatch. Just enough to know it was a team based shooter and i was hooked to Halo, Gears of war and a little call of Duty for my Online shooters. So when Overwatch 2 was coming out i liked that it was labeled as more of the same but tweaked, i mean sure they called it Overwatch 2 but when interviewed they didn’t label it as a “new” game but a more tweak version of the first game. So that peaked my interest as i didn’t play enough of the first game. I kinda wanted to give Splatoon a try and never did. I could use a new Switch game, sell me on it haha. Blizzard has stumbled some no question about it, so has Rockstar and many once untouchable studios. Think the only studio i can now say that is near perfect is Santa Monica from Sony. But some of that is just that they get God of War so perfect, interested to see them on a new franchise but i can’t imagine it would be any less than stellar. Diablo 4 looks to be the game that gets Blizzard back to being Blizzard and i think the studio wants that honestly, i think they want to right the ship and Diablo is a game that can put them there very quickly. There is a rumor they or working on a new IP for Xbox and PC, so that will be interesting if true. But i still play Diablo 3, i love it so much and it’s more like Comfort food to me at this point. It just makes me feel good and i relax and just play it and have no worries about how much others like it or not. It just works for me. I do however want Diablo 4 to be liked and well received. I think the studio needs it.
@__jamiie so its known that it a laptop experience and not a smaller non pro ipad cause I believe the air or regular ipad is not quit the experience and size that i would use instead of a laptop. The 12.9 inch iPad Pro to me is so good that i don’t use my pc nor feel the need to buy a MacBook. Hopefully that makes sense. Maybe it was unnecessary haha however I wasn’t telling everyone i was replying to someone that said how much times have changed that you don’t even need a PC, unless you want one for gaming. Short answer: size matters!!
@EngFin Even tho i only buy Digital games and have older physical media that is rare or meaningful to me. I would love to add a copy of Diablo 1 on PS1.That would be cool to have on the shelf. I should look one up to see how much they go for. I am sure it’s way more than i am willing to spend. Blizzard hooked the PS1 up tho. Blizzard is a top 5 studio of mine, so to collect some of their older gems would be cool 😊
@ppitchfork As others have noted,if whatever contracts have been signed for various store fronts it "should" release & not be like say Starfield which was probably being led on PC with XB/PS5 far enough behind that Microsoft could cancel it without legal repercussions. (Though Bethesda had talked up prior to the sale announcement their keeness in incorporating Dualsense into their ps5 titles).
But already seen another Gamer Phil interview talking up bringing Warcraft & Starcraft to XB,so sadly you can bet possible future iterations of Crash,Spyro or resurrected IP's ala Tony Hawk,Gun,or even Pitfall etc.,would be exclusives to Gamepass/ XB/PC...& the gamer dude bots & press applaud the monopoly arms race as a "win" for gamers!🙄😑
gonna wait for reviews for this.. cant trust Blizz no more unfortunately
@UltimateOtaku91 even with a free to play game i expect reasonable monetization. Free to play does not mean the same as ruin your gaming for maximum profit in my eyes.
I wouldn't spend a penny on an an AB game since we found out how they treat their staff, Diablo can be damned.
Maybe once Kotick is thrown out and the management has been fed into the Microsoft structure I'll look on Game pass, but they don't get a penny from me any other way.
@Green-Bandit Rockstar hasn’t made a game since Red Dead 2, which was one of the greatest games of all time, so it’s hard to say if they’ve fallen yet, just based on bad ports of old GTA games. We’ll have to wait til GTA6 to make that judgement, though I suppose there is some trepidation with it. I’m truly curious where Rockstar will go. I suppose it’s got the same problem as Blizzard, however, because, in the silence, it hasn’t encouraged faith.
Splatoon 3 is pretty fantastic, if you ask me. It’s a unique and casual shooter experience that isn’t necessarily about shooting others, but missing. Lol. The mechanic to paint the walls and floors instead of others is unique, but getting “splats” helps you paint more as well. The level design, visuals, and audio are all outstanding and it’s amazing how Nintendo optimized the game with little technical shortcuts to achieve the ambience of the title. It’s truly a love it or don’t get it type of title, but Nintendo’s found their golden mp experience, imo. It’s highly addictive.
@somnambulance i agree with you yet again. Red Dead 2 is my favorite game of all time. Red Dead, Diablo, Overwatch, God of War and Gears of war, Metroid and Mario and Zelda is truly all i need if i was on a island and could only bring a few games to play for like 10 years or something. Sure i play more titles but those are the ones that i really get excited for. Like I’m a kid or something, if that makes sense. Rockstar i think will be ok, GTA 6 will sell like crazy and get loads of press be it good or bad or indifferent. So they are set as far as making money. Those Ports were bad and they should have had some supervision on them, and the way they handled Red Dead Online wasn’t very good. Wish it would have never had online and just got some DLC story. But they had to swing for the online money, so i understand the decision to make wasn’t a hard one for them, clearly as fans we just want the best experience and DLC story would have been way more enjoyable and i am normally a online MP type of guy. But it didn’t do my favorite video game ever much justice. Nintendo games are like that, they or just design perfection on hardware that has no reason to make something so amazing and yet Nintendo software entertains the heck out of me. I am sure Splatoon would at the bare minimum be fun and worth the time and money. I still need to give it a try.
@Titntin I don’t want to be that guy and please understand i only say this cause it’s the world we live in, not trying to take a shot at your stance. If anything i applaud it to a degree. But if we knew everything about companies we use on a daily bases the way we know things about studios we would have next to nothing to wear, eat or consume. Nike is awful to it’s workers, i could go on and on for other brands, foods, Automobiles, etc etc. the point i wanted to make was, there are still more good people working there and other companies to make my purchase feel important. They still feed their families from the money we spend. Video games are about fun and fun only. It’s a shame what happens at some studios, i don’t condone it at ALL. It’s a shame really, but i support good games made by good people and unless ABK came out and made a statement on behalf of all staff that i disagreed with, i will play good games from them and let those games do what they were intended to do and that’s bring fun and joy into my life. I am not saying you will read this and go, you’re right and pre order the game, i am just saying, everything in your house and the clothes and food you eat have bad people doing bad things at their jobs. It’s a fact of life and sad. I do applaud you for having the will power to not play a great game for your beliefs and for the victims that were wronged. I just hate to see evil win and they are winning by taking fun away from you. They are winning by seeing a company they didn’t respect enough to do those crimes lose a sale. So they smile online when they see people say they won’t buy and play games. Sorry for the long post and please don’t think i am singling you out. It just makes me sad to see the industry lose and the fans and players lose because people do nasty things to others. I guess there is no win win for all, but i believe Microsoft will clean up ABK and that should be seen as a positive for the industry and more importantly human beings at work.
@Green-Bandit Thank you for your thoughts.
I actually try and buy everything as ethically as I can. I pay through the nose for organic high welfare meats and organic veg from B corp registered firms. I avoid anything with palm oil. Recently switched which cheddar I eat as soon as I confirmed the previous manufacturer had spent years releasing toxic chemicals into a river. Every single meal I eat I pay for a meal for a starving child in a less well off part of the owrld. I try and buy local goods, from sustainable businesses. You may assume I consume many brands that act without care, but its simply not true, I will put as much, if not more effort into finding out what companies I use as to considering which devs I'll support. I live my life in a way I can look anyone in the eye and say 'I stood true to my values'. I know this is not the norm now, but its how I wish to be.
In this case its actually pretty easy as I cant stand most of AB's games so there's little sacrifice to me, but Diablo is an exception, and all other things be equal I'd be all over it!
But its one game, produced by a studio that treated its staff with absolute contempt and many of the managers and people who did that stuff are still there. If you believe they win by me not consuming their product, then you have a pretty inverted way at looking at the world, but you are welcome to think that.
If Microsoft take over and instill proper oversight that will start to correct this, then I can look again, but till then I'm happy with my choices, and happy enough to let others make their own choices.
I thank you for your considerate post though, even if I cant agree with your conclusions 👍
Yes! All this buildup has led up to Diablo 4 being released in only...wait, April? OF NEXT YEAR? What are they doing, developing the game for each of 6 platforms independently from scratch then releasing them on the day the last one is done? Didn't the game start development in 2014? Last time a game took this long was...My God! Sonic '06! Is that the joke? Sonic '06= Hell= Diablo?
@Titntin first and foremost i tip my cap to you for looking into so many company values. I think what you are doing with food is insanely great and it makes me want to look a little further into it honestly. I only meant i hate to see great games from any company be missed by great fans like yourself and many others cause people aren’t following common courtesy and the laws. I didn’t mean what you are doing is bad, in fact I appreciate it in many ways. Shows character, and that i can get behind. But i think diablo 4 is going to be the game that Blizzard gets back on track with. I think it has a chance to be really special and i just hate to see you or anyone miss it. Hope that makes sense, I ain’t trying to be combative or confrontational. I just care about gamers and peoples joy in life and hate to see the knuckleheads win if that makes sense, again please take no offense and honestly i should mind my own business on these personal matters, between companies and consumers. But i just wanted to share my thoughts i suppose. 😊
@Green-Bandit Thanks dude. I should have restrained my reply, I have no desire to virtue signal here, but I have done.
I completely accept what you are saying and it is a shame I'll miss out on diablo4. But standards require sacrafices, and for me, that means not buying from companies where I know they have mistreated staff, so ill pass for now and hope I can enjoy at a later date. I'll survive!
In the meantime I know big fans such as yourself will enjoy the game vey much, and I have no issue with that at all and hope you do. My personal choices are not a campaign! 😁
@Titntin well just know i respect your decision and the game will probably be delayed. If its not delayed i bet MS wants to get this deal done in a hurry to get D4 on GP. That is a selling point for the service.
