The nominees for The Game Awards will be announced on Monday, 14th November. While it’s not the only awards show – in fact, a trio of Sony titles were nominated for The Golden Joysticks earlier today – it is the one that tends to get the most mainstream attention. Win the Keighleys, as they’re colloquially known, and it means you’re almost as big as Geoff’s sneakers!
The candidates will be announced from 9AM PT / 5PM GMT, with all eyes on the Game of the Year shortlist. We’re going to assume Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok will be duking it out for top honours, although Horizon Forbidden West may get a nod, too. Who do you think’s going to waltz away with this one? We’ve already explained why we feel FromSoftware has competition.

Neither GoW nor Elden Ring would surprise me. Personal preference aside, both are deserving of the title.
Hopefully A Plague Tale Requiem gets the acknowledgment it deserves. Great game and easily a GOTY contender.
I dont like souls games but i'll be very surprised if Elden Ring doesn't win this year
@uptownsoul That’s a very impressive streak!
@Uncharted2007
I am pulling for Plague Tale to at least get some recognition too. Awesome game from start to finish. Elden Ring is my favorite of the year so far but Plague Tale is right behind it.
I won't mind one way or the other. Although as every year, I wish a game coming from AA (or an indie) studio were a serious contender for a GOTY to get the recognition they deserve.
In addition, to be honest, besides the fact Horizon Forbidden West was released around the same time as Elder Ring (which played against the Sony exclusive), I personally think the game took a step in the wrong direction with the story, leaving HFW as great but not the greatest of 2022.
God of war Ragnarok without a doubt so far has exceeded my expectations.
@BeerIsAwesome Did Elden Ring have a story? FromSoftware did what they always do where all the interesting stuffs happens before you actually play and you just see the aftermath.
Where is my god of war preorder ps stars trophy???
PowerWash sim for GOTY
I thought hfw had a chance vs elden ring, but it seems gowr is taking it
Of course they will and then people will bitch about how exclusives shouldn't win awards lol
Good luck to both games. Elden Ring was great but I won't be playing God of War until next year, so can't really judge which I prefer, but I am really looking forward to playing it.
I loved Horizon but I don’t think it has a shot. God of War though…
I still expect Elden Ring to take the main award but Ragnarok definitely has a chance!
Wouldn't be surprised because God of War won in 2018, but there wasn't a game that year that was quite on the same level. This one is different because of Elden Ring. Could see the Game of the Year award go to either one of those.
@Gamer83 Well, GoW had to compete with RDR2
I think HFW and GoW Ragnarok will be nominated for most awards but lose to Elden Ring.
🏆 My personal '22 awards:
Best RPG from a small developer: Edge of Eternity
1st RPG I've played in ages that didn't have one bug in the entire play through: Soul Hackers 2
Deepest/most involved RPG, will be playing for months: Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
The nominees for GOTY will be:
A Plague Tale Requiem
Bayonetta 3
Elden Ring
God of War Ragnarok
Horizon Forbidden West
Neon White
I'll bet my lunch on it
@dschons
Right, forgot about that one. I'd say Ragnarok has a really good chance of making it a repeat for GoW.
@Uncharted2007 Yes! Wish there were more adventures like this which are not overly bogged down with RPG mechanics.
Hard to say. As an early released multiplatform game, more people will have been able to play Elden Ring for a lot longer, so it has a huge advantage there, but God of War has recency bias, which can't be discounted. I'll be looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out.
