SHIFT UP, the Korean company behind PS5 console exclusive Stellar Blade, has been partly acquired by Tencent. The Chinese juggernaut announced a 20 per cent stake in the studio today, and will become the second-largest shareholder in the firm, behind founder Kim Hyung Tae. Tencent already has ties to the team, as it’s the worldwide publisher of the organisation’s smartphone RPG Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
Sony will publish Stellar Blade, formerly known as Project Eve, worldwide – and this deal is unlikely to affect that. The game’s still due out in 2023, and was re-revealed as part of a new trailer during a recent State of Play broadcast.

With all the console wars and monopoly concerns and such, I’m still a lot more concerned about Tencent’s reach in the industry than anybody else.
Tencent has already ***** up Nikke. This can't be good either..
Tencent certainly have their dirty fingers in many pies. I wouldn't be surprised in the future if they bring out their own console. I'm sure that's the end goal for them.
I would say these are becoming more like a monopoly soon they will have shares in most studios. The game looks very promising but can't support now.
@KaijuKaiser I have already dropped Capcom games and anyone that deals with Tencent.
@KaijuKaiser Yes Russian games also banned for me since the war might change if it ever stops. I won't be getting Hogwarts either I will not support the author or her views.
I have my principles and will stick to them no matter what.
Please dont let this stop it releasing for PS5, this is one or my most anticipated games of 2023.
@Cyberpsycho you shouldn't buy any US-developed games either for what their government does and has done too.
@Cyberpsycho I will still be supporting games from tencent and capcom etc as not playing their games will change absolutely nothing and the devs behind these games and all their staff members who have put in hard work have nothing to do with issues surround the CCP, Russia, saudi Arabia, so would be unfair for their hard work to be wasted because of something out of their control.
But, at the same time, I fully respect you that you are standing up for something you strongly believe in and won't change your principles. I don't think it's wrong whatever choice people choose in terms of supporting these studios or not.
I think this game looks pretty damn cool..i couldnt give a flying fig if its owned by tencent or any other dubious company..if its a game i like the look of i'm in 👍
This the main game I currently want for PS5. I really hope nothing messes up here.
I still believe Tencent is a much bigger threat to the industry then Microsoft, they are buying stakes and trying to own as many gaming companies across the world as possible.
Stellar Blade is still a day one purchase for me but I hope I don't even have to see Tencent branding anywhere in the game.
No love for Tencent here, but if the game turns out well I really don't care who partly owns the company that made it.
I couldn't care less about this game but Tencent sticking their disease ridden fingers into more of the industry is never a good thing and will always piss me off
@Juanalf Yes, i agree, but don't shout that too loudly on this site lol

You are welcome.
On-topic, ugh...Tencent. Always a pain.
This won't stop me from getting Stellar Balde though.
Whens that game come out I've got a ps5 now so I can get it lol
@Cyberpsycho I respect your viewpoint, but if you look at it from that perspective, you can only play a select number of indie games. Every studio has skeletons in its closet.
@Cyberpsycho jesus
@shonenjump86 @Snake_V5 Given that Sony acquired the rights to publish it and Tencent is only the second largest shareholder, I don't think there is anything to worry about. There's really no reason for Tencent to do anything even if they could, which I don't think they could even if they wanted to.
I'm continuing to consider Stellar Blade as one of my most anticipated games of next year. It's just a matter of when it releases next year.
@Juanalf They both are a horrible threat Microsoft and US companies are just as dangerous as the Chinese. I love it when people here sometimes act like a company like MS need to be defended.
Been keeping my eye on this one for sure. Looks great so far!
@Cyberpsycho It's the opposite for me. Doesn't matter what atrocities a company is committing, as long as they make a good game, it doesn't matter to me, I will play it.
The employees have nothing to do with what the executives at the top do.
Anyone care to fill me in on here these Tencent people are cause they sound like they could be a problem.
I'm still going to buy this game and enjoy it alot, but it's a shame that Tencent is involved now.
