The release of EA's ambitious Dead Space remake is right around the corner, with the beleaguered Isaac Clarke set to explore the harrowing halls of the USG Ishimura all over again. As you might have suspected, Dead Space will feature the usual suite of graphical and performance options on PS5, allowing players to better tailor the experience to their liking.
You will need to decide between the Quality and Performance settings, which pretty much do what you might imagine. Quality will offer 4K (UHD) visuals with ray-tracing enabled at 30fps, while Performance will render at 2K (QHD) without ray-tracing but will run at a silky-smooth 60fps instead.
For players looking to get the best gameplay experience, it really is hard to pass over the Performance mode's 60fps, which does so much to improve the way a game feels to play. Sure, you lose out on visual fidelity, but that feels like the lesser of two evils. Of course, follow your heart, and choose whichever setting suits your tastes best.
Will you be picking up the Dead Space remake when it launches next week? Which setting do you prefer, and which will you be choosing? Suit up in the comments section below.

60 fps, I value that over resolution or RT!
I'd prefer the setting that makes this a brand new Dead Space game.
Ray tracing is a failed technology. It can't be used in the next generation console.
You know what sucks?
Even if the game doesn't have bugs it's going to underperform and we'll never see a new story in this universe
Dang, why did I have to read that CP didn't sell, now I'm all negative
@dasd2
It's the future of lighting and reflection technology, it's just too demanding on hardware right now.
@dasd2 The more developers get used to the hardware, the more 60 fps RT games with decent picture sharpness (with clever upscaling) we will get. Look at the latest improvements of UE5 and Fortnite! Performance RT like in Spider-Man and R&C is viable and the future.
@RawnDawn I’d like to think that people are actually eager to tackle another sci-fi survival horror game if it reviews well, after Callisto disappointed them. Time will tell.
I’m positively surprised that they offer a performance mode, which is also 1440p instead of 1080p. Very likely choosing performance myself.
Is it just me or did anyone else see the trailer and think the remake really doesn't look all that different from the original? Maybe I'm remembering wrong or maybe the original just looked that good. Heck PS3 doesn't even seem that long ago and the graphics of alot of games still look amazing even today. I'm probably gonna do a replay of the trilogy before i check out the remake.
Quit big standard then. I really more games need to make use of the 40Hz mode with quality settings like Spoderman etc. I may have been tempted to pick 40Hz over 70hz for the ippovmemts of visual quality.
I'll buy it once I learn the state of its microtransactions. I have not forgotten nor forgiven the "Del Boy and Rodney" cash grab that was the third game.
@dasd2 works fine on my PC, just these consoles are very limited in that regard and use AMD who's implementation wasn't that great
I got this on steam to go with the original trilogy. Looking forward to this I hope they changed nothing. Better not of went with the current trend micro transactions or some stoopid store page offering a skin for £££. I'm from the days of up down left right L1 R1 etc thats how we changed skins but back then it was characters taking the fun of that to replace with a cash option has ruined games this new generation of gamers is missing out due to greed.
I'll be playing in performance mode, must have the 60 FPS.
@Truegamer79
I see a lot of comments similar to yours about how games don't look much better than they did on (insert console here) until they go back to look and realize those games do not look as good as they remembered. I had that very realization with PS2 games.
@dasd2 lol this gen is trash , i remember when owning a console was actually worth it
I always tell myself I’ll play in quality mode but even when I have the option of 40fps I ALWAYS opt for 60fps in the end!
@PegasusActual93 well thats because you went waay back to the ps2 generation , bit of a stretch dont you think ? those boosted xbox360 games look good on the series X though & this gen is the most mediocre, incremental, lukewarm console gen so far.
I usually opt for 30fps, odd one out. Once I switch to 60fps, you can definitely tell the difference so I generally tend not to. Haha, mind you, I'm still not sold on this game yet. I've completed the original so many times I'm not sure if it's worth the entry fee quite yet.
@Mad001 I want to buy it on Steam for 60 fps ray tracing but I’m holding off till it’s confirmed to be stutter-free. The Callisto Protocol was a nightmare.
Good to see they’re offering 1440p60 on console though, that’s good enough for me if PC performance is subpar.
@nomither6
I was just using that as an example, you can apply the same to just about any generation. And early 360 games have not aged as well as I thought (many early 360 games also had PS2 equivalents just saying), boosting the resolution only does so much.
Surprised that after 2 years most dev haven't got it so that
Fidelity = 4K60RT
Performance = 2K60RT. (as with Spiderman).
Buying on PC then.
But this looks so much better than Gotham Knights, how can 60fps even be possible?!
@lindos 4K, 60fps with raytracing? C'mon, even my GPU that cost double the price of the PS5 can't do that in most games.
2K is 1080p, not 1440p. It annoys me to no end that no one seems to get that. Even the people who really should know.
1920 = close to 2000 = 2k
2560 = close to 2500 =2.5K/qhd (because roughly 4x 720p)
@NeThZOR Raw 4k is stupid and there are 0 benefits from targeting that resolution. DLSS is so good that actually boosts detail like text even tough it makes games easier to run. The future is not raw power but upscaling tech, ray tracing, frame generation and hopefully physx.
@BrettAwesome The naming convention is misleading, but as long as studios don't lie you won't be confused. 2k is much better than 1080p.
@Relygon lol you do you I'm no fussed I used to game on CRT screens and wear glasses1080p I think is amazing lol
@BrettAwesome @InternetUser I'm fairly sure 2K is defined as 1920 by 1080p - not that 2K was a definition before the advent of 4K displays.
@sanderson72 Yes, but QHD is defined as 2560x1440. So yeah saying 2K QHD is confusing.
I'm sooo ok with 1440p/2k resolution I honestly feel it's perfect for gaming
@sanderson72 2k-1440p. No idea how that happened, but as long as no one calls it something else I ain't complaining.
Bless the maker! Very happy to see that options are being provided, and a performance mode with 60fps will be there. I'll be going for the higher frame rate myself - 30fps looks awful on my big TV, so I always go for the smoother performance. 1440p upscaled looks good to me, so I don't miss the higher resolution quite as much as non-juddery motion. Everyone has their preferences though, and this is why I'm glad devs this generation offer people the choice
how about 40 fps 2k with raytracing and unlocked with vrr for higher fps in places.
@dasd2 Works fine on new PC cards. PS5 and Xbox Series are running gpu specs of 2018 with the switch running 2015 tablet specs. Thats the console gaming industry for you. Say a new console releases in 2025 or 26. At least they will have gpu specs of now. People hate when a console costs more than 499$. Yet a mid level gpu costs more than 1000$. Ray tracing is just too early for consoles still. Consoles finally got fps figured out, remember the ps3 360 era when the devs had to work with an unstable 30fps with stable 15fps at best.
@Relygon Yes, it's a bit like TV definitions when something says it's "HD Ready" and it is just 720p (or 1080i).
If QHD is defined as (1280 x 2) by (720 x 2) then it isn't 2K which surely has to be 1920 x 1080? What you're getting is 3K???
So question is, is this 60fps at 1080p (2K) or 1440p (QHD)?
@dasd2 I agree some elements of Ray Tracing are very expensive right now and unlikely to be used on console as a whole lighting solution, or for sound solution this gen on most games.
But it is the future and in the meantime things like RT reflections and using parts of it for GI are possible. And a few games, like Fortnite, might be able to do a bit more.
@Truegamer79 That's the classic rose tinted nostalgia glasses that make old games look MUCH better in your head. The difference is night and day really.
Ohh don’t screw this one please!
Performance mode all the way. Mabey, a PS5 Pro will give us 60fps and ray-tracing someday?
Now, please give us gyro controls for the PS5 version. If gyro is included, I'd play 4K 30fps for one of my playthroughs at least.
Unless there’s a performance RT mode then I think RT is wasted when it’s limited to 30fps. I bet the majority of PS5/Series X players always opt for 60fps anyway.
We already know both consoles can do RT at 60fps, it’s just down to the developers to implement them both into their games.
@Mad001 nah yall old timers just love to complain. thats all yall do. and ive played since ps1 days. im against microtransactions that affect game play but if its cosmetics only nothing wrong with that. fortnite and overwatch and others are only cosmetic only and are optional skins for fun. if you dont want them dont buy them simple as that instead of wasting time complaining lol
@SerJosh97 dont forget kranky lol geez refuse to buy any extras lol
Why not 4K, 60fps but no RTX?
