A now-deleted Twitter post has revealed the PS5 demo for Forspoken will soon be updated with new features and fixes for bugs and glitches. Caught by ResetEra, the patch will apparently include button mapping functionality, tweaks to the lock-on system, adjustments to text size, and then fixes "various technical issues". It's claimed the update will go live on PS5 later today.
The PS5 console exclusive has received a bit of a mixed reception since being uploaded to the PS Store, with some praising it and others taking issue with some factors. The game's out next week on 24th January 2023, so the demo must be close to the final build once it's been patched. We were pretty positive about the game following a preview event late last year, with our impressions pitching it as a more magical version of inFAMOUS.
If you didn't like it the first time, will you give the Forspoken demo another chance once this patch has been applied? Let us know in the comments below.

A patch for a demo is definitely not something that is good to read! I fear for this release big time!
Really surprised that they haven't announced a ff16 demo to be included with forspoken to increase sales
Sounds like they've been listening to the feedback.
This is good to hear.
Personally I'm still excited to get my hands on this game and I had fun with the demo too.
Patch installed at lunchtime whilst i was playing Crisis Core. I've not actually played the demo yet as i was preoccupied with God of War so this is good news for when i eventually try it out
No fixes to the camera, which seems a bit change considering that one of the biggest criticism.
@Americansamurai1 I'm guessing they probably don't have something ready for FF16. A demo will likely come at some point since they did one even for Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it seems the days of including a demo with a game to increase sales is long over. I remember it happening often, but it's been quite a lot of years since I've seen it.
I actually think patching a demo is a positive thing. It shows they are really committed to promoting the game at the very least, and it's possible they are quickly testing things out for the inevitable day 1 patch.
I downloaded the demo a few weeks ago but havenโt got around to playing it yet. Definitely gonna give it a go before the game comes out next week.
A patch for a demo that was released with too early a build doesn't sound like a bad thing. Maybe it's just including the final build of the client with whatever bug fixes included and not really anything that changes the gameplay feel though. I already deleted the demo but this makes me curious if anything is different in the current form.
There were some technical issues in the demo. The camera is iffy, and the framerate is horrible at 30fps, and even on performance mode has a hard time maintaining anything close in combat, and the game produces massive flicker on my display under 60fps. But that's Luminous Engine problems and I'm not sure that can be fixed. This is the same team that STILL leaves FFXV a technical mess, performance-wise.
Lock on improvements maybe help. But there was also the issue that the combat just seems kind of "there", the concept is good, the spell array is good, but it feels mostly like just spamming attacks that have no weight to them like an MMO or something. There's a great variety of spells but it's almost a jumble and the combat itself just isn't satisfying in the first demo at least.
It's still a game that's weird and clunky enough (I loved Folklore on PS3) that I'd buy for $20 or something eventually, but it's a bad sign when I was HAPPY when the demo was over after just an hour or less. I just wanted to play something else. I still see why you guys compare it to inFamous....as a concept there's a lot in common, but in actual feel it's nothing at all like inFamous. inFamous was tight, and weighty and just felt great to play. My favorite "modern" Sony franchise bar none. This....is not that..... Sucker Punch just builds tighter gameplay design.
(Also, obligatory: "I'm patching freaking demos. Yeah, okay, that is something I do now.")
Not the first time a demo has been patched. Also don't see a problem with it, since it can only help to be more representative of the final game it's promoting.
Patching a demo only about a few week or so before release?
Looks like PS5 owners are the testing team!
This has all the hallmarks of a broken game at release - is it being published by Bethesda?
Itโs a shame people are so hostile toward this title on here, but then again most people are hostile toward FFXV as well. Iโm looking forward to the title, though I did ironically uninstall the demo last night to make room on the PS5 for the game to install. Looking forward to seeing how this one is received critically. Itโs a rough decision for what to play next week as this and FE release essentially side by side.
This is a good, it means they dont want people to get a bad impression from the demo, like I did. Now if only they would patch the dialogue ๐
Considering how many people the demo put off and that Square feel the need to patch it indicates they never should have put it out in the first place.
Square also updated the demo for Harvestella, updating a demo doesn't mean anything bad it just means the developer actually listens to its fans.
@somnambulance personally I just didn't enjoy the demo so I won't be playing it. Though weirdly FFXV was one of my favourite games on the PS4 and that was before the "improvements" to the likes of Chapter 13 which I've not actually played yet. I might give that game another playthrough instead
Everything about this game is surrounded by irrational hate and negativity, they release a demo of an unfinished game that inherently will have some issues: BAD, they patch the demo to bring it closer to the final release: BAD.
And the game isnโt even that bad, yes some of the dialogue is awful and the engine is still a mess as it was with FFXV (which unlike the majority I really enjoyed my time with that game), but the traversal in Forspoken is fun, the combat once you get the hang of it is also fun, the story has the potential to be quite deep and overall it does look good, I donโt understand why people think that if a game isnโt a masterpiece then itโs automatically trash, same thing happened with Sonic Frontiers, yes the game isnโt perfect, yes it has some technical issues, but the game is FUN, which is more than I can say for many other games (ehem Callisto).
@KaijuKaiser I agree. The Sonic Frontiers backlash was totally unnecessary and bizarre, considering that itโs easily the best Sonic game in ages. Pokรฉmon Violet too, the game was outstanding and actually ran without any problems during my entire playthrough. When Iโve defended these titles last year, many people across these forums got quite heated about it. Ironically though, when I brought up criticisms about HFWโs technical performance, as it was the โbigโ game that actually had the most bugs for me and was the only game that hard crashed my PS5 multiple times so far, many people also got defensive and critical of my statement, even though I was clear that it didnโt detract from my overall opinion of the game. Itโs weird how itโs actually sort of trendy to bash certain games and also trendy for some games to have a certain immunity from certain criticisms. With Forspoken, it seems to have the same fate as Sonic Frontiers verbatim. People have been critical of it since its first solo trailer because of a bit of cringey dialogue, and then itโs just been continuous criticism. But I mean, Final Fantasy XV was trendy to trash on too. Oftentimes, due to how much bigger games have gotten as a medium, I wonder about how theyโre perceived now. I almost feel like many have not played any actual trash games. Lol. We didnโt have the luxury of reviews in the same capacity back in the NES days, for instance, and as a result, I feel that people enjoyed games differently. With Forspoken, I just wish the community at large was more open-minded and just see what it looks like at release rather than panning it before launch.
And to comment on Cyberpunk since you brought it up, I played it on Stadia and honestly had few bugs. There were bugs, but they were Bethesda bugs, funny bugs, and thatโs honestly my favorite part of the game. That said, I didnโt enjoy the game much beyond that. I thought the narrative was flat and the characters were unlikeable and it felt like a b-tier Far Cry title with the gameplay. But whatever. Itโs an average title, but it wasnโt the worst thing in the world. I remember playing the game pretty vividly, so at least it made an impression.
@carlos82 Do it! XV has improved so much over time. I finally got through it in 2020 after finishing VII Remake and I felt like I had been absolutely insane to wait that long to do so. I honestly enjoyed VII Remake and XV nearly as much as each other.
RE7 patched its demo but that was to add Easter eggs.
A demo patching to improve gameplay etc is new to me. ๐ค
@Bionic-Spencer not the first time a demo has got a patch , I'm pretty sure the demo for metroid dread also got patched
@somnambulance exactly, everyone loves to hate which is why i dont listen to other ppls opinions ever anymore. even reviews idc how good they are its still someone elses opinion. i will always form my own opinion. if i listened to everyone else i would never play anything good. most stuff i like they hate and stuff im not a fan off they love lmao
@KaijuKaiser Sonic Frontiers is fun but the negative opinion was based on poor prerelease information from Sega and no hands on time.
Cyberpunk was overhyped, based on again, poor (or rather doctored) prerelease information from CDPR and no hands on time. And in the end the game actually is good, they just had to actually make it work right first.
This game...well...we have our own hands on time with it. Now maybe the final game is great and the demo is poor prerelease information, but....we've seen it for ourselves so the negative opinions aren't just based on trailers and poor presentation but on getting to try it. It's definitely a different situation. Unless the demo really doesn't represent the final game in which it just makes me wonder even more if square knows what it's doing.
@sanderson72 If it were Bethesda you'd finally get a free patch 11 years later that fixes most of the bugs and re-introduces one game breaking one they fixed in the day 1 patch. This is Square-enix. They'll sell you that patch for full price in the Complete Edition next year, but it won't include the DLC.
A patch for a demo, LMAO.
This game has all the signs of a flop

Can developers just realize that no one wants a playable character or npc ally talking 24 ***** 7?
Iโll absolutely give the demo another go. The HDR issues and frame rate turned me off. Fingers crossed!
@somnambulance the average person can't resist a hate bandwagon, sadly.
@SamMR FFXV also had a patch for a demo and did pretty well.
@IOI because apparently most people who comment online either love or hate something. Nothing in between. As if there are no shades of grey; just black or white, hence the question that is commonly asked "did you love it or did you hate it?"
Anyone tried the demo post patch ?? I have been looking forward to this game. Hopefully it reviews well.
Noy going to download the demo again, didnt really grab me. Will probably pick it up on sale or when it goes to plus, looks like it could be a good game but demo didnt convince me to buy day 1. Wait for reviews as well.
As per the PS+ subscription levels, is premium required to get the demo?
yup i tried the demo and ill be swapping my pre-order for star wars jedi survivor coming out in march. Sorry SE, but this was underwhelming and I got turned off by all the swearing lol. It was funny at first and the banter is a nice touch, but the cussing... man a little much. the demo just didn't grab me. heck i liked the outriders demo more than this one and it was patched as well lol....and i enjoyed that game for some dumb entertainment. o wells. I think if this game was released at a different time with more love and care it may have had a better reception. it's hard to follow in GoW's epic adventure imo.
@amriddle01 No subscription necessary the demo is available to all. ๐๐๐
Big kudos to them for doing this, but I'll be waiting for the full release instead.
My gaming backlog is too massive for me to spend time on demos sadly.
