Just when the Drake family thought it could take a well-earned rest, PlayStation fans spot what looks like a tease for a new Uncharted game. As part of the new Live from PS5 ad campaign from Sony, a number of PS5 exclusives (Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7, for example) are handed the spotlight in the form of a news channel reporting on events suitable to what happens in those titles. However, one isn't immediately recognisable, and some enthusiasts believe it could be a tease for an Uncharted 5.
43 seconds into the advert, a woman holding a lit torch is spotted walking through a cave. She then pops up a little later on blowing sand off an artefact. In between the two very brief clips, titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Destiny, and Stray are highlighted. Given the strong ties to Sony's own PlayStation Studios, some think the advert is teasing a fifth mainline Uncharted game, with the female character presumably being Nathan Drake's daughter Cassie.
Since third-party titles like The Callisto Protocol and Final Fantasy XVI also appear in the ad, it's possible the game may be Tomb Raider, which does have a new entry coming in the future. However, if it's going to be anything, then Uncharted seems like the most likely bet.
Is this actually a real tease from Sony, though? Naughty Dog very recently stated it has moved on from the Uncharted series as it contemplates a third The Last of Us game. "For us, Uncharted was insanely successful — Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games — and we're able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we're done. We're moving on," Neil Druckmann said in an interview with Buzzfeed.
A few years ago, there was speculation of a new Uncharted game coming from a Sony San Diego team, meaning Naughty Dog had handed the franchise to a different internal studio. However, there hasn't been any fresh news or rumours on that front for a long time now. As such, it seems like a stretch to say Sony is actively teasing a new Uncharted game through its new Live from PS5 ad campaign. Although, given the fact Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was popular enough to be played by 37 million people, it would come as little surprise if Sony did want to continue the series with a different developer.
What say you? Do you think the few seconds in the Live from PS5 advert really is an Uncharted tease, or are people just clutching at straws? Share your analysis in the comments below.

A new uncharted might be closer than we think. I know Sony just created a team in visual arts to make one but bend was working on one for a while, so it's not hard to imagine some of the work carrying over to visual arts.
My first thought was that's Tomb Raider, but after looking more closely, I no longer believe that. Let us hope it's Uncharted 5.
@PlayStationGamer3919
Perhaps they passed the torch, so to speak, to Bluepoint Games or another studio. In that case, Naughty Dog would indeed be done with Uncharted, but Uncharted wouldn't be done.
Naughty Dog may be done and dusted with Uncharted, but I'm sure the accountants and marketeers would hate to see such a HUGE franchise become dormant.
A new studio to take up the reins with a new story in the same universe.
Not an Uncharted 1,2 or 3 (or even 4) remake though.
Tomb Raider is a mixed bag these days so I think a new Uncharted with Drake's daughter would be pretty cool
If they were to do an unchartered it would have to be sully and sam or chloe and cutter. Drakes story wrapped up nicely
I'd absolutely be down for another Uncharted with Cassie.
A new game with Chloe or Sam in the same universe would be awesome. Or with Cassie, Sam could be the Sully for Cassie.
Yep. That’s Cassie. Sony aren’t going to drop Uncharted.
ND aged the characters in real time. Nate was 33 in UC2 (2009) & 40 by UC4 (2016).
If the new studio follows that, Cassie would be somewhere between 17-22 assuming a 2024 release.
Call it Uncharted 5: A Thief’s Beginning. Pay me later Sony 😉.
Idk what game it is but since they're using a clip from something unannounced now... announcements soon? Please?
@Fight_Teza_Fight you had me until that name haha! Good theory though and one I hope comes true. I definitely don’t see this being tomb raider. These are all first party games and tomb raider isn’t as far as I’m aware. I think we’re going to get a reveal soon!
@PlayStationGamer3919 Most likely will be a new Uncharted game by a different studio with Cassie as the main character

I was absolutely done with Uncharted as I thought 4 ended everything perfectly, however! If is moving the story foward with Cassie then I would be fully onboard.
I just didn't want the lazy approach of going backwards in time and doing Sully when younger, Elena when younger, Chloe when younger, etc. I'm also sure the new studio will do the game justice if U5 is real.
I thought it was Layla from Assassin's Creed raiding some uncharted tombs.
Would love a new Uncharted game. Saw Ghost of Tsushima in there as well.
I really don't want to see a Cassie-based Uncharted because, while Uncharted already felt like Tomb Raider, adding a female protag would just make it feel more like a Tomb Raider clone. And while it would have, at one time, been a unique angle to have a more "out of her element" protag versus the bold and powerful Lara, we already got "scared Lara" in 2013. It just feels too much like "been there, done that", and great as Lost Legacy is, and Chloe is really the best character in the series, that already suffers a little bit from "hey, this is like TR!"
I'm not sure where they can take Uncharted next, but I'd think they want to avoid feeling like "more Tomb Raider."
OTOH, historically the best games in any ND series are the ones not made by ND (the PS2 crash games, the PSP Daxter! game), so another studio making it could only mean good things though.
OT: That commercial is so campy, but not in a good way. It's one of the few total cringe commercials I've seen from gaming in recent years.
there will be another uncharted game it sells millions of units for sony
Naughty dog will not be making it
Yakuza/Like a dragon passed the torch successfully, I'm sure Uncharted could do the same. Especially now where they had success with the lackluster but fun movie adaptation, I'm sure Sony won't just let ND drop it.
@PlayStationGamer3919 its not being made by Naughty Dog thats why.
Long rumoured the other Sony San Diego team was making it.
2 things were stated by Naughty Dog:
So, if that game is related in any way to Uncharted, it will be developed by another team, and will have a new protagonist - plain and simple.
All money's on Nathan's and Elena's daughter, Cassie, as a "daughter following in her parent's footsteps".
And she will most likely be crossing paths here and there with Nathan, Elena, Sully and the others along her journey. What better way to do a reboot of the series?
Sony would be fools to let go of such a well established IP. This genre still sells very well, see the Uncharted and the Tomb Raider games.
Cassie will be in direct competition with Lara for the next trilogy from each IP.
So, what's that mystery game then? Another studio could easily take over development of Uncharted.
@PlayStationGamer3919 the new studio in San Diego is taking over uncharted from naughty dog
I think it is a new Uncharted and will be Cassie. Maybe we would get a few games with her before they reboot the whole series.
At some point I'd like to see it being rebooted because Uncharted is Nathans game and for any other character I consider them be spin-off games. To change that is like changing Lara from TR. Will be very exciting to see the new protagonist and I hope we get one of Sully someday before we see a reboot with a new storyline.
I was hoping for another studio to take over if ND wasn't going to make any more but maybe some ND developers can still have a part in the development to guide it. The game is too good to let it die and NDs talent is better being put towards new IPs
Can't they make a muslim game?
@nedbvai and what exactly would that entail?
I would be down for a new protag in uncharted, give Nathan a good retirement, he has earned it.
@ nedbvai
Sure, its called "Mohammed Drake and the Lost pages of Koran"
developed by Sony Studio Bagdad
Gee I can’t wait for more obnoxious characters and sub tomb Raider gameplay.
Just let it rest, jesus. Not everything has to be an infinite franchise, and I say this as someone who loves the games.
Both Uncharted & The Last of Us have a lot of untapped potential, I don't want to see either series fade into obscurity, but I would like future entries to focus on brand new characters with brand new stories, granted I'm all for seeing old characters return, but include them sparingly. The Last of Us especially, the Cordyceps outbreak impacted the entire world, let's see how it affected other people in different parts of the world, let's see how the mutation affected people in those parts of the world, let's see different types of Infected that require different tactics in order to kill them, the world of The Last of Us is filled with infinite potential.
One can only hope for a new Uncharted but I won't hold my breath.
Cassie would be a great new starting point.
Only reason Uncharted 4 was pegged as the last was cause Drukman pushed the creators out of naughty dog and he didn't want to continue it.
No reason for Sony to discard such a profitable IP.
I am going to disagree and say Drake will return. Lost legacy already showed a female lead won't sell as much, and you can't get better than Chloe/Claudia Black.
Maybe a double protagonist?
They could go the way of god of war. That would be interesting.
@ShadowofSparta You know you don't have to play it, right?
Regardless of it being Tomb Raider, Uncharted, or a new IP, I welcome another action/adventure game where you explore a mysterious island, and defeat bad guys, while collecting relics and solving puzzles.
@Nem I know I don’t have to play it. Wouldn’t you like to see something new? Not everything has to go on forever. I’m just not sure what else there is to do with Uncharted. There’s an opportunity cost to making it.
@ShadowofSparta I would like to play a new one. They are fun games. I don't care so much about the story as i do about the adventure.
I really don't care about new IP. They often come out stale, uninspiring and micro transaction or live service riddled. I'd rather something i know i will like.
