Maybe to save battery? I guess the two controllers in the bundle allow for easy rotation to offset that at least.

Smart way to clear out stock for the Slim PS5 with an attachment disk drive. I dislike the PS5 look and design, so i will for sure sell mine and get the newer model and hope it really looks good and takes up less space. Can’t wait for the reveal.

Couch co-op? Never heard of it. Is it some British way to say, "you bought a controller with a replacement"?

Either they are going to bundle this with a Knack 3 Co Op Edition or it's a weird way to keep the price up. But hey, I'm just glad PS5s will but readily available.

@avatarian couch co-op is local co-op multiplayer, as in you're sitting in your sofa, aka couch, next to the other player.

@nomither6 I thought the solution was a $200 controller with $20 stick replacements so that by the time the third stick dies you're financially ahead by ten bucks.... But you still need these for when the battery on that one runs out mid session.

I just bought a controller for my kid to take to college to play on their laptop so my wife and I still have 2 at home. But I’m really not sure what to play w/ her. Was thinking about Lego Star Wars yadda yadda yadda but not really looking forward to it just can’t think of anything else. We’re considering Skylanders Imaginators but I don’t even know if it will work. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I already have a PS5 and four controllers (one of which I use on PC primarily except when needed on PS5 for playing a 4-player game like Shredder's Revenge). Bare minimum, I get three controllers - one for PC and two for console.

If the price differential is the same, I would much rather have an extra controller bundled in than a game. Dual Sense controller battery life sucks, and for me a digital code to a PS game is worth less than the paper it's printed on since I will regardless, sooner or later, buy the physical copy of that game (perhaps already did.)

@Green-Bandit digital model to me is the true design of PS5, the disc drive makes it look weird and uneven.

@Omnistalgic 100% and going forward from Xbox and Playstation there is a good chance we will continue to see designs more around digital with the disk drive being the add on. Physical media isn’t my thing and hasn’t been in a long time, but i am happy it is there for the people that prefer it. Both can co exist and should for at least a little while longer. But modern warfare 2 only having like 200MB on disk is just silly. It’s like having only the license on disk and you download the rest. That seems like a waste of plastic to me, but again what works for me might not work best for others and i respect that. In closing the PS5 is ugly and the fact it needs a stand to lay “flat” is just silly and over engineered. I hope they use a more practical design with this revision and i will for sure trade or sell my digital edition with the Black Sony plates and get the new model.

@Green-Bandit It is kinda ugly, and it is ridiculously over engineered in needing a stand to lay flat. But honestly it's still 300% better than the PS4 that came with that cheap, coarse, matte milk bottle plastic that wasn't even uniform in color, fading from splotchy charcoal gray to white-gray in spots, and stress creaked with pressure or heat. It looked like an ultra low budget ultra slim model at launch, and then they kept that and doubled down on it on the Pro!

PS1, PS3 were sexy beasts. psp2000, psp go, and especially vita were some of the prettiest electronics ever. Even PS3 slim was pretty slick. PS2, PS2 slim, PS3 ultra slim, and all iterations of PS4 looked and felt like a Chinese knockoff PlaiStashin. In that light, PS5 is reasonably attractive

@NEStalgia Haha, i can’t disagree with that. PS1 was brilliant in design. I didn’t care for the Spider Man logo, otherwise PS3 was decent in design. PS4 somehow ended up being my least favorite PS ever. PS5 is brilliant, outside of just a bad design. Yeah i mean a stand to lay flat? Really… this new design needs to be simple, yet sleek. Something simple in design with a touch of the Sony flare.if they pull that off, then 100% upgrading to that. Also hope the Dual sense edge hit’s a good price and i will use my cash back rewards on my credit card and snag one. Looks like Sony will be making some coin off me hardware wise in 2023.

@rjejr I’m sure that you have already played It Takes Two (if not, buy it immediately), but this developer’s earlier game is a great co-op experience as well. It’s called A Way Out, is about a prison escape, and is free on Extra. It’s only a few dollars on sale in the PS Store if you don’t have Extra. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

@NEStalgia @Green-Bandit That's funny because I just moved my Pro aside for the PS5 and to me the Pro feels solidly built whereas the (butt-ugly) PS5 feels like it is made out of the cheapest, most flexible nasty plastic possible.

I've finally managed to rearrange my TV unit so I can fit the oversized blob onto a shelf and hide as much of the PS5 as possible.
I was always proud to show off my PS, PS2, PS3 (original and now slim) and PS4 (original and now Pro) but this is the first console I've wanted to hide away.

Can only hope the redesign is much, much better looking and is made out of something more sturdy. Also, I think an ergonomic rethink of the DualSense would be welcome as it is nowhere near as comfortable to hold as the DS4 (what's with the nasty sharp edges on the hand grips?) and weighs a tonne too.

Retailers like ShopTo are selling the disc version plus a 2nd controller for £537.85 so I'd expect the 2 controller packs would retail for around the same money?

New to the Pony brigade having picked up a digital PS5 over Christmas (the much better looking one). Gotta say, first thing that came to mind when I saw this was "Cool people will have a spare controller for when the battery runs out on the first one".

@riceNpea I'm going to be the ultimate pedant and say technically the Switch comes with two, and the NES did too, at least some versions. They were permanently attached which seems really weird now.

When you unlock a Trophy the PS saves a short video of the gameplay that unlocked it. Go to your settings and turn that off as it's a waste of the precious space on your hard drive.

@NEStalgia that's fair, I was taking things entirely at face value, but it's possible I fell for trolling. I'm just used to feeling very old around folks who grew up with online multiplayer as the default.

The extra controller sounds good and all but im waiting on the first price drop to buy the ps5 console. Probably never will happen but one can hope lol. I purchased my ps1, 2, 3, and 4 all after a price drop in the past

How is € 699 good value for money? The console with 1 controller is € 549 so you get the second controller for only € 150?

I think Sony has to rethink their prices anyway now that Xbox will have a huge year with their exclusives. I’ve had all 5 PS’s and never owned a Xbox but will definitely buy the Series X once Starfield is out.

@sanderson72 This will always be a matter of taste. For me personally this is the first PlayStation I gave a prominent spot in my room since it's so good looking. Even after two years I still stare at its flowing design.

@kyleforrester87 played it on Series X, great game! I also turned blur off. I found it beneficial on last gen systems though.

@sanderson72 Oh and I also don't think the DS5 gets a redesign for sure. Considering they're just about to release the $200 version of it, I'm pretty sure they're locked onto that design. Although, those rough edges are part of why I'm considering buying the $200 version with the rubber on the grips and the dimpled triggers. But...at the same time, I was playing HzD yesterday and my battery showed 1 bar by the time I was done...and the $200 version has LESS battery life.....I can't even get the stock controller to last a full session! And it wasn't even nearly as long a session as I play on my XB controllers or Switch Pro, basically always!

I kid, somewhat, the design has kinda grown on me, though it's still a monolithic eyesore next to my XSS, XSX, PS4, and Switch. I think the look would have been fine were it not so enormously huge.

@Green-Bandit I agree with PS4 being my least favorite PS ever! Probably not popular opinion due to how mass-market popular the console was, and how popular the pop culture sensations of a few of the exclusives were, but to me PS4 was the anti-PlayStation. The hardware felt as generic and cheap as possible, was never really exceptional at anything, which makes sense it was made during the "great recession" when the narrative was that consoles were doomed, the future is in mobile, and they put out a sort of bare minimum machine that was kind of uninspiring at launch. It just always felt like a budget model even when it was new, and I really don't know how the Pro ended up looking worse than the base model.

The only reason it wasn't doomed from the start was because X1 was so freaking bad and WiiU was so.....WiiU.... it made it look great, lol.

I'm still reserving judgement on if PS5 remains a PS4 Pro Plus or feels like the old days of PS again. It's still too new, and the PS5's games haven't really even started releasing yet. The hardware feels and looks better than PS4, but....we'll see what its identity becomes. It'll never be the nerdy, weeby box that PS1 through PS Vita were....that alone will probably keep it from joining the ranks of the older consoles in my mind.

@Stevemalkpus Thanks. Yeah, we played It Takes Two, as did my kids, as it was a family Christmas gift in 2021. None of us thought it was "Family game of the year" material but my wife and I enjoyed it. I think the last game we played was Knack 2, which I think shows our desperation for couch co-op games. 😂 Before that was Sackboy's Adventure, half on PS4 before getting the PS5 and finishing it there. Before that was Luigi's Mansion 3 on Switch, which is 1 of the better co-op games we've played.

I knew about that prison escape game but we're really more of the Lego gaming type, not so serious. My wife isn't a huge gamer, mostly she watches me play JRPG b/c she likes the stories and character interactions, though the past few years we've been watching our kids play those. Once my youngest goes to college in the fall we'll be on our own empty nesters looking for something to play together. In a perfect world Zelda TotK would have co-op and she could play as Zelda but that's just an unrealistic pipe dream. But since you mentioned it I'll look into the prison game, I think I have about $18 of PSN credit.

@NEStalgia I think the Pro looks better than the Slim due to the uneven sizes of the base to the lid but the original 'glossy top' PS4 was probably the best.

I think some of the PS 'magic' was lost with the PS4 and PS5 becoming PC parts bins. I mean I remember learning about the push-pop x86 architecture at University many years ago and how it was destroyed at the time by the Motorola 68000 series processors.

Currently the PS5 is a very ugly PS4 Pro Plus so I'm hoping that the improved games will eventually justify the purchase.
Given the Pro next to it has a Crucial MX500 SSD inside, the loading times seem surprisingly closer than many would think. So at the moment, I wonder if I have wasted my money?

I don't think the PS5 was necessarily a waste of money, I just think that the PS5 is the PS4 we were told we were getting back in 2013 but instead got an old tablet CPU and a mediocre off the shelf GPU of which its main claim to fame was that it sucked less than the tablet CPU and mediocre off the shelf GPU the competitors used.

And honestly I'm kinda fine with that? The PS4 era had some good games but they all ran like dog poop. 30 frames if you were lucky, 720p if you were lucky. I think our biggest problem this generation is most of the games we played last generation were games designed for this generation's hardware on PC last generation, and we finally just now got to buy the hardware that last gen's games were made for, so they new look and run correctly like they were meant to, but now it seems underwhelming because the games were built for PC gamers that have had "PS5" hardware for the past decade.

The whole PS4 generation feels like a lost generation where we just got stuck using a 2011 PC until 2020. Games never felt designed for the hardware, they felt designed for the better PC hardware but could be trimmed to run on a PS4.

Last gen was just so underwhelming. Mediocre hardware on PS, even worse hardware on XB, and WiiU that died in 18 months. It kind of feels like we just reset to where we should have been post PS360.
