Officially announced near the end of last year, Sword Art Online: Last Recollection now has its first story trailer, which drops alongside some initial gameplay details. The PS5 and PS4 action RPG currently has a vague '2023' release window, but with the marketing push moving so quickly, we can't see a confirmed date being that far off.
Anyway, Bandai Namco says that this game's combat system will be "faster and simpler", allowing players to automatically chain Sword Skills — special moves — into regular combos. It sounds like the developer's trying to make things more accessible than in previous games, but it also states that you'll still be able to unleash individual Sword Skills at will. A new weapon type, the scythe, will be introduced in Last Recollection as well.

Just came here to applaud the subheading. I’ve never gotten into Sword Art, but it seems popular around the world, so maybe if I did a little homework and tried one more time, I’d get lucky and find that it’s something I enjoy.
Harder better faster simpler is all good and all, but what I want to know is if this one lets you save at any point without going a full HOUR in cutscenes without saving ultimately leading to having to redo the same hour of cutscenes again and again without ever getting past it like bullet... ugh!
I love SAO, but the games...very meh imho.
Still bitter Last Recollection isn't another dothack remaster
Hopefully they put some effort of making it run in a decent way.
@NEStalgia If that would happen to me it would be dropped quite fast.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah I really tried to give it a go, several times, and every time that would end up happening. And you can't skip the scenes, so you just have to let it run forever and ever without any hope of saving. I finally got past a few that were doing that to me only to end up in another. I never even got to any gameplay other than the area that acts as a tutorial because I never got out of the darned cutscenes in a place I could save!
@EchoRange Same here. When are dot hack fans going to get some love again? We haven't had a new entry since GU Last Recode back in 2017.
Meanwhile Sword Art Online seems to still be getting a new game every 2 years or so.
@NEStalgia That sounds like such a stupid choice this game design is ancient. I can accept making you watch it first time because of all the hard work put in. But after that given the option to skip it is essential.
@Flaming_Kaiser Ancient is definitely the best description. Though even letting you skip the second time wouldn't help if you didn't sit through it all because it wouldn't let you save, the first time. Every time you come back to it you're loading that save from 2 years ago until you make it through everything between save points. Fatal Bullet of probably the worst I've ever seen with that problem, though the Persona series can be guilty of that too. It pretty much requires using standby all the time to have any hope playing through it.
@NEStalgia So the savepoints are also a big issue yeah that is totally stupid maybe just the option to skip whenever you want is better. The can always give a prompt if you want to skip it by keep holding so you don't skip stuff by accident.
