It's the start of the new year, which means we're still figuring out how to go back to eating things that aren't Quality Street or Twiglets. While we'll certainly get there eventually, the indulgent end-of-year holidays are always a nice treat, and it seems God of War Ragnarok had reason to celebrate too. The UK's final physical chart of 2022 saw Sony's game reclaim number one. Almost all copies sold were on PS5, so we suspect console bundles will be a big reason for the bump.
It knocks FIFA 23 back into second, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 now in fourth place. Save for Sonic Frontiers in 10th, down from seventh, the remainder of the top 10 is very Nintendo-flavoured, as per usual. There are several exciting releases heading to PS5 and PS4 this month, though, and we reckon they'll shake things up nicely. Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 31st December 2022
- God of War Ragnarok
- FIFA 23
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Pokémon Violet
- Nintendo Switch Sports
- Pokémon Scarlet
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Sonic Frontiers

Awsome game but whats more impressive im MK8 making 3rd place above COD. Its a beast.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Yeah, it's unstoppable
And totally deserved it is, too! Half my Push Square comments in 2022 must’ve been related to God of War Ragnarok, but BOY do I love it. May as well start 2023 in the same vein.
Well deserved, having got my GOWR plat over Christmas I am now having brainless fun with Sonic Frontiers!!
@Mostik yeah, I got my plat over Xmas too. I was left wanting more so I went back to GOW 2018 and spent a few hours mopping up trophies for the plat on that too.
I started Klonoa for a bit of fun (while GT7 remains a constant and will do so for the foreseeable future) and plan to go back to HZFW (I like it but I’m a bit tired of open world to-do lists which I find hard to ignore but at the same time it kills the momentum of the story). All open world compare unfavourably after Elden Ring (for me).
@bighal I agree mate, the plat for HFW was a bit of a slog but I really enjoyed the combat so got through it. I have Elden Ring but just have not got round to it yet but by all accounts I am in for a treat once I do!
Don't think I will ever get the GT7 plat due to the online grind but I do love the game and have most off line trophies, definite top 5 game of 2022 for me and don't think I will stop playing it until the next one arrives.
I want to play Evil West and Callisto first though after Sonic!!!! The backlog is real, even before 2023 games - nice problem to have though!
One Microsoft title in the top ten and it was one that already existed before they bought it and a non-Xbox version. Serves them right, I say.
N.i.c.e. god of war ragnarok is the best game of the year.im glad its back on the top spot.where it belongs.god of war ragnarok is a masterpiece.kratos the g.o.a.t. 🐐. 👑.word up son
@Mostik GT7 plat is not very hard, but fun, you don't even have to win the online races.
Anyway, I'm still playing the game long time after doing the platinum.
Just hope Sony brings us a Forza Horizon rival in the future.
@Sil_Am Interesting, I might go for it then not sure why I thought you had to get so many wins perhaps I am confusing that with GT Sport, it really is a great game!!
Best game on that list by a mile... so not surprising.
Everything else has a hard time holding my attention after I finished it. Same feeling I had after Elden Ring.
@Sil_Am I basically have to do the trophy with 100 scape photos and the drive whatever miles on oval tracks. As soon as I have those two it will plat for me. A lot easier than Gt Sport (if I remember you hade to match Michael Schumacher’s record of poles and wins online - not likely given my talent).
