City building sim Cities: Skylines is getting a PS5 version next week, on the 15th February. This is an enhanced remaster of the 2017 PS4 title, boasting a number of improvements — and it's a free upgrade if you already own Cities: Skylines on the last-gen console. The same goes for the game's numerous DLC packs; if you own them on PS4, you get them on PS5 at no additional cost.
Anyway, here are the new features, as per the official press release:
- 25 buildable tiles – that’s 16 additional tiles from Cities: Skylines on PlayStation®4!
- Quick selection tool
- UX Improvements, such as precision placements, distance indicator and updated snapping options
- New environmental controls panel allowing players to adjust time of day, rain, fog, and environment colouring
- Map editor
- An overall graphic performance increase
The title's generally regarded as a rock solid sim. It's fairly accessible, as far as the genre goes, and you can spend hours just observing and tweaking your creations, once you've got things up and running.

Free upgrade to a game I lost my life to? I think that's a good thing 🙂😂
Noice! I’m looking forward to messing up traffic across 25 tiles! 🚙 🛴🚜🛵
Can't wait. An excuse to start a other city and try out the financial district DLC.
Goodbye what little free time I have!
Oh geez… getting all those trophies again! 😬😂
This means I can make my giant poo pool in the middle of my cities in even higher resolution??
I am excite.
So happy about it. Now only if i didn't have spent 350euros on PC for all the DLCS or if I could transfer cross play like licenses...
Is the PSPlus version also available to upgrade free for people who have it?
@riceNpea This was what I was going to ask. They usually only allow paid versions getting the PS5 upgrades which I understand why.
@riceNpea hopefully, but my guess it's not.
25 tiles?! Awesomeness
@riceNpea I was wondering the same thing
if plus version doesnt upgrade ill be getting a cheap used copy.
@shogunrok any info on plus version?
@stvevan Not yet, sadly. If previous Plus games are anything to go by then I wouldn't get your hopes up, but we'll only know for sure when it's out.
@R03KY @riceNpea See my above comment for PS Plus info.
I couldn't get into this. the tutorials were not helpful and it felt like it was a sequel where it expected you to already know what to do. I was dying to play it but ended up ditching it.
Great and amazing city builder.
But definitely a game I can only play on pc, which I do.
And graphics are already good enough on ultra.
Just can never get used to the controller.
But im glad they are making a ps5 version.
But what I really want is a sequel now
I've upgraded quite a few PS4 games that I got with PS+ subscription (Dead by Daylight for example). Admittedly that was earlier in the PS5 cycle, but there's a chance.
its going straight on gp, so fingers crossed for plus
Hopefully this might help getting the DLC content that I've paid for to actually work. I know lots of other people have this issue as well.
@ShogunRok - Hi. Looks as the free upgrade is only for digital owners - if you’ve got the game on disc (like me) they are not making the free upgrade available - is it possible to clarify / amend the article? Thanks.
