Gran Turismo 7 will get a big new lease of life next week with a PSVR2 patch that makes it playable in virtual reality, but there's still content to look forward to if you're not buying Sony's new headset. Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has done his usual thing of teasing the PS5, PS4 update the weekend before it hits, revealing four more cars will be added to the real driving simulator on 21st February 2023.
You can see the black silhouettes of the four race cars in the image below, but fans speculate they're a Citroen DS, an AAR Eagle or a Honda RA272, and an old Porsche. One set of wheels seems relatively unknown at the time of writing.
Of course, you'll be able to race these new four cars in VR once you've bought them in-game on every track in the game, across all events. The only feature PSVR2 doesn't support is split-screen play. This is the entire title playable in VR, and there's even a new showroom where you can admire every car in the game up close and personal. We will bring you our impressions of the PSVR2 version as soon as possible.

GT7 is an odd game. It's like I was disappointed by it, I didn't like it for the longest time, then I found myself really enjoying it when I came back to it recently.
I want to play this in VR sooooo bad!!!
@TrickyDicky99 Gt7 is a current gen racing game lol.
For the sake of people that won't be picking up a VR set I hope that it's more than just 4 cars in one of the "big updates". I know they say it takes 270 days to create a car and that is a huge undertaking but I don't think their effort translates to big in the mind of a lot of users. Would be nice if they at least added a customizable HUD, a couple of tracks or a few other goodies.
@TrickyDicky99 Or is it a PS5 game with PS4 diminutions?
@TrickyDicky99 No. It's a PS5 game with a last gen downgrade version available, like a lot of games these days. As someone who recently got a PS5, that had this game on PS4 long before, there is no denying how this game was designed around being a PS5 game, with the PS4 version feeling like it's struggling. It's gotta be the best game for the PS5 controller as well, the feedback they gave it is incredible.
Not that into 'realistic' but will probably get it later/cheaper for the VR thrill. VR week next week guys!
@TrickyDicky99 No. I played it on PS4 long before I got a PS5. It's a night and day difference in many ways. It's obvious how the PS4 version is simply a downgrade. Everything that I thought was iffy about it is a non-issue on the PS5, like frame rate drops, long loading times, slow to navigate menus, a lack of good controller feedback, I mean I could go on and on. Yes at the end of the day they are the same game, but so is playing a game on PC with potato settings compared to a high-end PC on max settings. You are essentially getting the same game, but there is a night and day difference between the experience on the two machines.
@TrickyDicky99 absolutely agree. They are all PS4 games. Period. Int erms of PS5 games over two year in, the pickings are very, very slim. Especially if you don't include the bs remasters, rereleases disguised as remakes, and the so called director's cuts.
I have GT7 and I think it's an awesome game. Bought on the Christmas sale. And I do have a savings I put away for. And my buddy already pre ordered it. Huge upgrade from my Rift s. Probably sell it TBH. Meta more less dropped it. And I like the tech and hi res panels. Oh man. I feel my rubber arm bending slightly 😂🤣
Will be playing this in VR DAY 1!! This is the game that sold me a PSVR2 last week. Still peeved ive got to create a new account to play this game fresh from the start tho as opposed to wiping my single player progress.
@TrickyDicky99 “ it's the exact same game.”
Yes, other than the visuals, performance, and load times, they’re exactly the same. Enjoy waiting for whatever generation racing game you’re hoping for. I’ll keep enjoying GT7.
@TrickyDicky99 broken record at its finest.
@TrickyDicky99 yawn, bore off
I really liked GT7, but for me can only enjoy it so much without a proper racing wheel. Got to a point where I felt I couldn't really even play it anymore, growing frustrated with the limitations of a controller, although to their credit the controller drives much better than I anticipated.
I am very tempted to splurge, I don't even know.... $1200 to get PSVR2 and a racing wheel/pedals to play this. The temptation is strong, but I just can't do it, it just can't be worth that much.
@TrickyDicky99 what does it matter? Even if you're right, and you're not, It's being played on PSVR2 which means it will have its own set of graphical parameters and performance aside from PS4 and PS5.
I'm really looking forward to this, I played Driveclub VR and despite it being a blurry mess it was an amazing experience, so the full GT experience with it looking good is going to be a bit special
@carlos82 if only GT7 had lightning storms
@grubsteak how much?! How much are you looking to spend on a wheel?
@riceNpea I'm tempted to reinstall Driveclub just to see its weather effects again
@TrickyDicky99 yes it's a cross gen game. But it's also still a brilliant fun game. And it's also going to be the best looking racer in VR when it drops on Wednesday. Its an actual headset seller.
@grubsteak $1200? Thats a bit overkill. I got the logitech G29 wheel. Id say its a mid range wheel with reasonable force feedback and i paid £250 for it. I dont know how prices translate "across the pond" but with a VR i think you could be looking at $800-$850. Sure if you want to go all out and get a fanatek wheel or something your price will go up considerably but for the casual gamer the G29 will boost your enjoyment immensely.
@riceNpea
Kayak Mirage VR has some beautiful lightning
Don’t suppose anyone in the U.K. has their dispatch notice yet?
@thefourfoldroot1 I'm in Ireland.
I was charged for mine on Friday. I'm expecting the dispatch email early tomorrow. That's usual timeline when I pre-order from Gamestop.
I'm installing Call of the Mountain atm.
So close...
@thefourfoldroot1 I've not had it yet 😔 but they have taken the money
@TrickyDicky99 uff your statements are full of a lot of non-knowledge about game development.
Horizon FW has so many improvements over the ps4 version. The whole in game lighting, resolution and most important the performance mode (with VRR often around 60-90 fps).
I guess you are the first one to cry when there are real next gen games out, like you said, that only running with 30 fps.
Nevertheless the Horizon VR game and GT7 are absolutely showcases for the VR headset, doesn’t matter it GT is cross gen or not. The game looks amazing and offers every mode in VR (except splitscreen of course).
Stop crying with cross gen or not. Even PC game are made to run on lower hardware as well, that doesn’t make modern pc games looking worse in any way.
@TrickyDicky99 I'd be interested to know what you consider a next-gen racing game. Turns out GT7 was developed with VR2 in mind, which probably had more impact on the game than it having PS4 support. Given how great the graphics are in VR, doesn't that make it next-gen in a sense?
Sure there may be better-looking games on PC, but not that run on a £500 PC and, if VR, with a £500 headset.
The hype is real. PSVR 2 gonna blow our minds. This & Kayak VR Mirage & Resident Evil Village & Horizon CotM. Ah, man. Glorious gaming in front of me.
And C-Smash VRS coming down the line. Hell yeah.
@thefourfoldroot1 nothing yet man. I keep checking my emails every 20 minutes 😎
@Mikey856 I got the dispatch email here in the US on Friday so I'm sure you'll get yours soon. Tracking says it hasn't actually moved anywhere yet mind.
@TJ81 awwwwwesoooooome!!! Thanks man, hype!
@TrickyDicky99 I think what you are trying to say is that a true PS5 game will only run on the PS5. Or simply only be released for the PS5. An example, would be ratchet and clank which used PS5s ssd to allow characters to teleport.
@Mikey856
Me too, lol. It’ll be when I wake up in the morning I’m sure 🧐
When will we know how big the update is & weather or not it will balloon the games overall file size when it's already over 100 GB & I'm going to be a broken record & say give us a f***** offline patch it's bad enough there's nothing on the disk but a license file
@TrickyDicky99 uff ok… I’m giving up here xD
@TrickyDicky99 I'm not so sure any of that was really held back by PS4, everything you mentioned can be scaled the way PC game engines do. I suspect VR considerations had the most impact.
I see where you're coming from but as a casual gamer the AI is challenging enough as is the weather as it stands. Sounds like you're just too hard-core for GT7! Maybe playing in VR would make a difference to the experience.
@TrickyDicky99 is not the same game in the slightest. Visually better, tons of single player content, from the menu book, missions and different track specific races. And the dynamic weather is brilliant in the longer races and can really change a race.
And on Wednesday when my psvr2 turns up(🙏) the whole game will be a whole different experience.
@thefourfoldroot1 @Mikey856 have you guys got a dispatch email yet? Mine still saying preparing to ship. Although when i ordered the hogwarts controller i did get it next day so fingers crossed it gets dispatched today or tomorrow. Just too exited now lol
@Daleaf
No. In fact I was getting nervous, so checked my bank, at it seems the payment is only pending and not technically taken yet!
I’m hoping they’ll dispatch tomorrow on a next day and I’ll get dispatch confirmation and the payment completed at the same time!
@thefourfoldroot1 same here, well my payment is through paypal and it pretty much says the same payment is technically taken but on hold and will actually be taken when they ship it.
Hopefully we get an email either tonight or early tomorrow morning and it arrives next day. With the controller it was next day no probs so that bodes well.
Im just so exited now, couldnt get time off work so got to wait till i get home on wednesday and hopefully it will be there. Got gt7 and resi already downloaded. Bought kayak yesterday and horizon in the bundle. Lets just hope. When i get an email from sony will let u know.
@Daleaf nope, still nothing pal. Still checking that inbox, every 20 minutes… I just can’t get GT7 VR outta my head…. Kylie never said that btw
@Mikey856 yea same here, just been refreshing it every 30min or so.
Yea gt7 is the first thing thats going on for me, probably not the best ideal as i will prob just have had dinner haha.
Im like a little kid at xmas at the moment. And i wasnt going to pre order it at start thought id wait a few months now i just cant wait lol. Hopefully we hear something soon. Just knowing its shipped will ease my mind for a few hrs haha.
@Mikey856 Same here. DPD is usually next day I think, so I expect them to go out tomorrow.
@SJBUK oh god, I expect to get home and find the VR slung in the garden then 😂
@thefourfoldroot1 FYI — Just received my dispatch email now.
@Mikey856 I hope not! I've generally had a good experience with DPD, it's Amazon that I have trouble with. Small items are generally OK but I have had a couple of mobile phones and a PS5 disappear in transit.
Am hoping I'll be playing GT7 in VR in about 48 hours (work permitting) but am not holding my breath.
@Shepherd_Tallon
Still nothing my end. Are you in the U.K.?
@thefourfoldroot1 Ireland.
Gamestop often ship pre-orders a day early here though.
If you're worried about your order though definitely send an email or open a ticket. Just for peace of mind.
This it's a PS4 game with PS5 enhancements argument - Is that not how all PC games are? You can enable more stuff and run it better with a higher spec machine, what else are you expecting?
@Daleaf @Shepherd_Tallon @SJBUK hype!!! Got my email guys!!! Peng a leng
@Mikey856 I got an e-mail about 4pm, it was just Sony teasing me:
"Thank you for pre-ordering on PlayStation. We just wanted to remind you that your PS VR2 headset is due to arrive between February 22nd and February 28th 2023."
Checked the order status, still flippin 'Preparing To Ship'!
@Mikey856 ah nice m8, still the same for me.
Although did get the same email as @SJBUK was getting exited. Hopefully get it in the next few hrs or before noon tomorrow.
@SJBUK oh crap I thought that was the email we were waiting for 🤦🏻♂️… same here then
@TrickyDicky99 "it's the exact same game on PS5 as it is on PS4".
Well, the upcoming patch adds PSVR2 support and Sophy AI exclusively on the PS5.
This decidedly puts the Grand Canyon in between the PS5 and the PS4 versions, as if the gap wasn't already large enough.
But just enough to trigger you into jumping in here, huh @TrickyDicky99?
@Daleaf did you get your email bro. DPD have mine apparently… hyped now
@Mikey856 na still nothing, gutted 🙁. Hopefully get it by the weekend.
Glad u got urs hope it arrives for you tomorrow m8. At least it will give me time to finish hogwarts. And get all the vr games ready and downloaded, well thats what im telling myself while still checking if it shipped every hour haha.
@Daleaf oh no!!! Gutted man, fingers crossed for ya man. !!! 🤞keep me updated yeah
@Mikey856 will do m8, let me know how it goes tomorrow after you play a bit of gt7 😁
@Mikey856 Hey, congrats, I'm in no way, shape or form jealous...
Did you order standalone or the bundle?
@Mikey856 well i just got an email just now saying its shipped, bit late but fingers crossed might get it tomorrow, if not then thursday 😁😁😁😁
@Mikey856 well apparently mine has been delivered. Went on the tracking link and waa a bit unclear on that, just went on to the ps website and order and status is Delivered. Just got to get through this day of work now, hopefully be strapped in by 6pm tonight.
Has yours arrived yet?
@Daleaf it’s due any minute but I’m at work til 7 damn adult life!!!
@Mikey856 Haha, well at least its nearly there now. Hopefully work wont drag too much lol. Cant wait to get back and play it now.
