Sony has confirmed that it will discontinue the PS Plus Collection on the 9th May, 2023. Just before the launch of the PS5 in 2020, the PS Plus Collection was announced as an incentive for potential PS5 buyers. Basically, it was a selection of highly rated PS4 games that PS Plus subscribers gained instant access to — all of which could be played on PS5.
The PS Plus Collection has been a thing for over two years now, even after Sony expanded PS Plus with the Extra and Premium tiers — but it's being dropped in just a few months.
However, it's important to point out that if you've added any games from the PS Plus Collection to your library, you'll still be able to download and play them even after the collection is taken offline (as long as you're still subscribed). So if you're a PS Plus member, you should claim them before the 9th May.
Here are the PS4 games currently included in the PS Plus Collection:
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Battlefield 1
- Bloodborne
- Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Days Gone
- Detroit: Become Human
- Fallout 4
- Final Fantasy XV
- God of War
- inFAMOUS: Second Son
- Monster Hunter: World
- Mortal Kombat X
- Ratchet & Clank
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
- The Last Guardian
- The Last of Us Remastered
- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
- Until Dawn
It's also worth mentioning that many of these games are available through PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. Only three of these titles are not a part of the broader subscription, those being Battlefield I, Call of Duty Black Ops III, and Monster Hunter: World.
All of these upcoming changes have been added to our massive PS Plus guide, which has everything you need to know about the subscription service and which games are available through it:
Are you sad to see the end of the PS Plus Collection, or was this always going to happen? Remember to add those games to your library in the comments section below.

At the time it did feel like a nice incentive but if I'm honest I've only bothered to play a few of them.
I guess I may as well at least claim them all while I still can
Guess, this should force new PS5 owners immediately buy something to play on their new consoles or subscribe to any tier of PS Plus.
And this is why relying excessively on an all digital future is just a scam. Go the physical route and you can enjoy these titles for years to come , and all at your own leisure.
For me this collection was absolutely perfect. Never owned a PS console before, so there were a lot of great titles to catch up on from the get go and basically free.
@jimbouk Your comment makes absolutely no sense. If you claimed them, you keep them. Only future new PS5 owners will "miss out" on this collection.
@jimbouk
They were technically free (assuming you subscribe to ps plus as most people do) so hardly a scam. Also as long as you've "claimed them" you can keep them
It lasted longer than I thought it would. A nice benefit for those early adopters.
Also it doesn’t affect me really as I own every game on that list apart from COD: 3 lol.
Between the new marketing stuff and getting rid of an incentive for early adopters, it feels like they're getting ready to finally make the "next gen" push.
@jimbouk You say that but more and more games are becoming reliant on day one patches and other post-launch updates.
Like it or not, even if you buy physical copies exclusively, you're going to be forced into keeping your console online and hooked up to a digital library of sorts.
It was a really solid collection for those completely new to PS
I'll claim a few I hadn't claimed before. It's nice that they're treating it like normal Plus Essentials freebies and letting you keep them in your library. A little sucky that they're doing away with it just as stock becomes available and people can actually get consoles though, seems a little like Black Friday loss leaders where there's only 2 in stock and everyone that comes in for it get's the "sorry, sold out, no rainchecks" line. Half the people waiting in line are told they can't get the deal. And most of the people that got consoles early were the die-hard customers and not the new customers that hadn't already bought most of what they wanted here.

@jimbouk It's not really a scam when they've all been free for over two years and are still free for all who claimed them. Oh no, they've scammed me for £0.
It's like saying it was a scam if a pub gave you a load of free pints but only if you turn up in a certain 2 year period.
Think about how many people have paid for a physical game but then lost it, had it stolen or broken, and then had no way of claiming a replacement. Meanwhile, as far as I know, no one has ever bought a digital game and lost it or had it taken away. Fallout 1 and 2 were removed from various services as a digital copy but everyone that paid still had access to it.
Well, that was the biggest and longest offering in IGC history as it is.😄
@Member_the_game I dont' think personally that PS Plus is a scam, just referring to the general nature of subscription services.
Also , with regards to how backwards compatibility is handled on Playstation platforms, maybe in the future ps4 compatibility won't be even guaranteed. So better to get all these must- play games via disc rather than rely on a subscription service was the point of my comment.
Also, didn't sony themselves say that PS Plus collection will still remain after the Plus revamp back in June? So why remove it now? Makes no sense tbh.
It was a great little service designed primarily to get Xbox users to jump ship at the start of the generation. And if they did? WOW! what a great list of games if they had been on team green last gen. It's probably served it's purpose, and while it's a shame it is going, it's probably adding to the confusion of PS+ which already has 3 collection tiers, and this is a fourth.
As a long time PS player it never offered that much personally as i'd already played/bought the games I wanted.
Regardless hopefully many of these games will appear on PS++ or PS+++ if they aren't already.
PlayStation are really entering the PS5 2.0 phase this year then.
Where’s that showcase?
@ShogunRok Really nice PSA, may I suggest reposting it May 1st as a reminder.
Probably have added them all to my library at this point, but I’ll double check. Only played 1 or 2 but it was still a nice bonus when buying a PS5.
@jimbouk
I know what you mean, in the past I've always been fairly vocal about buying physical only but I have to admit I am slowly coming around the the idea of buying digital games.
To be honest though unless it's something new that I really want I tend to hold off buying it now as more often than not it gets given away on PS plus if I'm prepared to wait a while.
The subscription service is a slightly different matter. I guess you have to adjust your brain to think of it more as a rental service. Similar to netflix in the sense you can stream a film or TV series but you never actually own it and it can obviously be removed at any time (sometimes without much warning)
@jimbouk Until they cut the electricity and outlaw generators.
@rjejr Yeah we'll definitely post a reminder closer to the time.
@jimbouk this is a subscription service that explains titles my come and go. It's not you buying them. Oh, and you having your game forever? Good luck when you accidentally scratch that £80 disc.
@jimbouk with all the patches required these days that's looking less and less certain
@JP80 Good point, I remember running the disc version of Drive Club unpatched on my PS4, was like a different game. Dirt 5 was also missing many effects as your car interacted with the terrain on PS4. Think we often don't realise what might be missing on that unpatched disc (outside of some of the more publicised games, like Cyberpunk), so once the patch is gone...
@JP80, Majority of titles on PS4, PS5 and Switch run perfectly fine without needing a day 1 patch, only in some extreme cases ( think Cyberpunk, and some more recent releases like Callisto Protocol) which where quite bugged upon release.
Personally I don't mind purchasing digital stuff but if you want to ensure longevity of a particular game going physical is the only way to do it.
@Ristar24 it has been said a lot but think people forget games aren't like they used to be on ps1-2 when the games were complete on release I mean if that was the case these days then I'd probably have more reason to go back to physical copies
@jimbouk While some comments about physical are valid, this is not one of them. Pretty sure you can’t play physical games if you didn’t bother to buy them…
@jimbouk pros and cons with physical and digital...I tend to move on once I'm done even with favourite games so digital is fine for me but that's not the case with everyone
Made this comment on VGC. If you're planning on getting a ps5 down the line. The games are there for claiming right now on the webstore online or on your mobile. People jumping on this like they're missing out. If you're desperate enough, claim them today.
@JP80 Yep, seems almost a retro thing now. I buy mostly digital on my Switch these days just for convenience, only own 4 cartridges. PS4, my last purchases were also digital.
I like the idea of a physical copy in theory, partly for preservation. Something like the digital PS3 version of OutRun 2, or other licenced games that get delisted, is a real shame.
@XinGViruS Same for me! For aomebody who never played TLoU or GoW, this was the perfect opportunity to enjoy them for the first time. And because I adored TLoU, it was indirectly the reason why I instantaneously bought TLoU 2 when it received its PS5 60 fps patch.
PS Plus Collection was always supposed to be a temporary incentive for early adopters to jump onboard with PS5, so I'm not really surprised.
Do you get to keep them? I've had to keep claiming them anew each time I play any of them.
How do you claim these, actually? I checked the app and website and can't find the "Plus Collection" anymore at all.
@jimbouk 'Physical'?
What, with those fragile plastic 'disc' things that you have to push into the console every time you want to play a particular game?
How quaint!
Was lovely to have the collection when I just got my PS5 in 2021. At the time the only PS4 exclusive I had played was The Last of Us and (the best out of the lot) Bloodborne, so there were plenty to keep me busy.
@Matroska On this matter, I have read many times that "physical" is better because is a way to keep games "forever", as if a disc or cartridge won't damage over time.
For example, my disc of GoW (2018) suddenly stopped working. I inserted it one day on my PS4 and bam! Nothing happened. I checked it. No scratches. No dust. No dirt. It just...stopped working.
Dead.
And I am very careful with discs and consoles and all that. I kept the disc in its box, on a nice and fresh, clean space. Same thing happened with AC: Odyssey.
So, two games I bought in a physical form let me down. I don't know why it happened and they are the only ones that stopped working. But, my point is, and many folks have said it, physical media have some downsides too. Those who think it is the only way to keep a game "forever" is thinking in the short term.
And like @ShogunRok said, with day one patches, you may end up with a nice coaster if the game isn't working properly right out of the box. It is what it is, I guess.
Just sharing a little story to keep things in perspective. Either way you choose to play, is alright!
Happy gaming everyone!
@NEStalgia Probably was never on the app or website b/c then anyone with PS+ would be able to get them before getting a PS5. It's why I was always annoyed (well, besides, ya know, always being annoyed in general) that they referred to this as the PS+ Collection in the first place b/c MOST of the people paying for PS+ probably didn't have access to a PS5 so the ones paying for PS+ were subsidizing the people who had a PS5. It should have always been called the "PS5 Ambassador Game Collection" since Sony likes copying Nintendo so much. 😂
So you should be able to find the games on a PS5, but not website or app, as it's always been. 🤷♂️
@rjejr LOL, maybe you're right, I'll have to check on console tonight and see if it's findable there (is anything findable on-console in the store??)
They SHOULD know you have a PS5 on your account, I mean you have one registered as primary to your account....the store would be able to know that without you having to use the console to browse it, but it's Sony, and checking a database entry on your account would be easier than checking if you're downloading a game on PS5 and probably want the PS5 version of that game rather than the PS4 version of that game but they don't do that either...
I can't wait to have to figure out how to get the Moss PSVR2 PS5 version instead of the Moss PSVR1 PS4 version. Right now it doesn't even show up on the store at all, but Moss 2 does, and the preorder shows the countdown
@Jaz007 as long as you have ps+ you can play them.
@jimbouk I don't think any rational person expected the PS Plus Collection to exist forever. It was an incentive to be a PS5 early adopter. You can still play them if you add them to your library as long as you're a member. This is absolutely no indictment of digital gaming. My goodness.
@kcarnes9051 honestly I’m surprised they lasted this long , I was expecting a year at most.
This sucks. I have downloaded them all. I was hoping this would expand over the years.
So are they still on Essential and Premium?
@nyXhc420 it was never something they were going to expand
@twitchtvpat It’s unfortunate. They did this to help with PS5 sales. I’m just glad those who would’ve had a PS5 for the first 18 months will have had this opportunity
@Feena yes or stubborn gamers like myself who only played sports, Lego, MK, or Batman games 🤣🤣🤣
@NEStalgia You're own your own w/ PSVR 2 as I never used PSVR enough, even only paying $200 for it and all the free games. My kids never really used it either.
I did check on PS5 and had to add almost all the games to my library b/c they were added before, but when my kid had PS,+ not me, b/c of that entire disaster. So I'm glad I looked. Still probably won't play them though.
It's easy to find under PS+ off the main menu.
i almost subscribed to play ffxv on my ps5, i usually like to take my time with games and all so im glad i didnt paid for it (i currently have ffxv for the xbox one but i wanted to replay with better performance and maybe do all the fishing stuff lol, will probably replay on the old xbox then)
@jimbouk until they lock your console out of accessing the digitial media thats on the disc without a license verification LOL
theres no escape
@rjejr Thanks, I checked and there they are! Got them claimed now.
Haha yeah I didn't use vr1 a ton but mostly because the camera setup was a pain and the lenses smeared and fogged constantly. Vr2 fixes a lot of that so I think I'll get decent use this time. 2d is still my main backlog but it'll be a fun escape
I already redeemed them all ages ago, but definitely spread the news to my gaming friends.
Claimed all of the ones I wanted, so I'm ok with it. Always had a PSN account and subscription anyway, so they've always been 'free' to me.
Regarding physical vs digital, I used to be firmly in the physical camp but not so much now. I have a stack of DVD's & Blueray films I don't watch anymore, just collecting dust. For me it's easier just to stream, though I do have a decent broadband connection.
Same with games. Up until the PS5 everything I bought was physical and I was used to swapping disks to play games. Now it's just a PITA powering on the PS5, finding someone's swapped my GT7 disk out for a flippin Lego game and having to unpark my backside to go and swap disks. That's a couple of minutes of valuable play time! Plus it's rarely a case of sticking a new disk in and just playing, have to download a massive patch first.
If I got through several games a month I suppose second-hand physical purchases would make sense. As I only get through several a year I find digital just so much easier.
With the exception of cod and re7, I already all of those games when the ps5 released lol.
I redeemed them all last night and will download them all in the next week.
@XinGViruS Agree, it was the same for me. Really helped me to catch up with many great exclusives I had missed in the past generation
@jimbouk
I hear what you are saying. PS+ and other services are great for this moment-to-moment consumption of games but are not appropriate for archiving a collection of software. I prefer physical media over digital when it comes to my games as well.
The real slippery slope is when the physical game only has the license info on it and then downloads the entire game from a server like CoD MWF2 did last year. Or when a game requires a constant internet connection to be played.
Will we be able to fire up and play those games being released this generation in 30 or 40 years just like you can still play on an old Nintendo or Sega system? I'm not confident we will be able to even if we have the physical disc.
Just claimed them all, including the ones i'm not interested in
@NEStalgia I can't pay $550+NY tax for a "fun escape". That's escort $.
I claimed all the PS+ games yesterday as well, as my inbox can attest. 😝

This definitely won't be blown out of proportion online.
@rjejr I don't take vacations and $30k potty breaks. $600 for an escape seems reasonable.
Though I can be persuaded on value by the escort service
Removed - trolling/baiting
@jimbouk Are you normally this dense??? Please read what you just said and think about it for a moment lmao
Removed - inappropriate
@NEStalgia If you have the money and you aren't going on any vacations may I suggest installing 1 of these Logan's Run doors?
I entirely expected gamers to be jumping over themselves to defend policies that are anti-consumer. Wasn't disappointed.
@grapetrap 30-40 years is a long time to even worry about if you can play a video game or not , and a good amount of people on here would be happy they would be alive in 30-40 years to worry about that problem lol.
@twitchtvpat
I get that...lol...
I was just saying that we can buy an old NES or Atari system and some games and play them like it was brand new. I doubt that will be the case for certain games coming out in the last couple of generations.
@XinGViruS his comment made perfect sense he was saying he may as well claim the rest of the games he hasn't claimed yet DUH!!! Not his fault if your too slow to catch on to what he meant
@Ogzoomdoom420 That is not what he said. Like, at all. Not even close. Did you read the wrong comment? Or reply to the wrong comment? Because now your comment is the one that makes absolutely zero sense at all mate.
