The greatest show on turf is just days away, with the Philadelphia Eagles [Boo! – Ed] set to do battle with the Kansas City Chiefs [Meh! – Ed]. Of course, only a handful of true blue born again Americans tune in for the football: the real show will come during the plentiful commercial breaks and Rihanna’s half-time performance. Ella-ella-ey-ey!
Anyway, Sony may have something in store during the big game. As spotted by MP1st, the platform holder has been promoting a blizzard from Midgard this coming Sunday evening, and it’s encouraged fans to tune into the big game to learn more. Look, we know Manchester United play Leeds on Sunday in the Premier League, but we’re pretty sure it’s referring to Super Bowl LVII.
Our guess is that it’s got some kind of commercial planned which will play into its big global Live from PlayStation marketing scheme. The million dollar question will be whether it plumps up for one of the prime time slots, or if it goes with one of the side-shows – like the digital-only God of War Ascension ad it ran during the Super Bowl in 2013.
Considering its marketing has been a little quieter in the United States than the rest of the world this year so far, we’re actually curious to see if it’s stumped up the $6.5 million being requested for a single 30 second spot. We’ll find out on Sunday evening, as Patrick Mahomes terrorises that Eagles defence and claims his second ring. Book it!

Activision-blizzard from Midgard - you heard it here first 😉
Be epic if they announced a showcase, but I doubt it
@Americansamurai1I don't think the Super Bowl is the right venue for that.
@get2sammyb me either but we're so desperate for one all that we can do is dream lol
Safe money is simply a new ad as part of their PS5 marketing push (likely with some VR2 stuff thrown in). And it's probably just heavily featuring GoW.
I think it may also be a general GoW ad (which itself is arguably big enough of a name to be a PS5 ad) that reveals a PC release date.
@Americansamurai1 it costs millons of dollars to put a 30 second ad on the superbowl. Sony would have to spend the same as MS buying Activision for a showcase
I know it:
The first teaser of the god of war tv show
@Savage_Joe lol wasn't talking about a showcase during the super bowl, just an announcement of a showcase at the Superbowl
Boo you, Sammy Barker. Go BIRDS!
FLY, EAGLES, FLY!
Says the Jets fan....
Eagles by 10. Not that I want it to be that way, but that’s my bet. Probably something like 31-21.
And as far as what Sony will do, it’ll probably be a nice basic ad campaign with nothing specific regarding future products. Something with Kratos, Aloy, Spider-Man, etc. I’d love to see something similar to that Ben Stiller as with John Tavolta, Lebron James, and their kids. Love the old funny ad campaign Sony.
I know they had a casting call and they have a van with Live from Ps5 and #livefromps5 on it, but that's all I know.
I hope it's something fun and unexpected rather than the 30 second ad. And I do think it will at least be more creative than an ad spot.
I'd love to see a PSVR2 commercial while I'm watching the Eagles smash the Chiefs.
@Americansamurai1 Yeah I could definitely see a quick 30 second ad teasing a showcase.
Either that or a first look at the God of War TV series, or a surprise Ragnarok DLC.
Ultimately though it's probably just going to be plugging Ragnarok, we shouldn't expect anything new.
