The Pixel Ripped series was one of the unsung heroes of the PSVR’s library, as it fused modern technology with retro gaming, but the newly announced Pixel Ripped 1978 is seriously levelling the franchise up. Backed by Atari, this PSVR2 title will take you back to the peak of the publisher’s popularity, where you’ll be working as a fledgling game designer.
As is customary for the series, the release will break the fourth wall, emerging you into classics like Crystal Castles and Yars’ Revenge, as you hunt for bugs and relive Atari’s glory years from the inside. The blurb reads: “Our hero Dot has to once again fight against the evil Cyblin Lord, who has a very complex plan: to hack into the game creator’s past at Atari and to make himself the protagonist!”
To be honest, this looks incredible – and it’s so awesome to see Atari involved with exciting projects like this. There’s no concrete release date just yet, but the game is preliminarily pegged for the summer. It’d be nice to see the other Pixel Ripped entries ported to PSVR2 alongside it, as they’re all very much worth a playthrough.

This looks so good! Amazing to see Atari involved with something like this!
Hell yes!!!!!!!!! I’m in. Want it now.
Just realised that the motion tracking and accelerometers in the sense controllers might finally (Finally!) be able to give us the type of smooth paddle control that was possible in Breakout before we had to switch to analogue sticks.
Oh, and decathlon with running movements instead of stick waggle!
This could be so good.
These games are such a unique experience. An original idea only vr can bring and one that has to be played to appreciated. Hats off to the devs and hopefully this’ll do really well for them🤞 i’ll b there anyway👍
ya this looks like something an old fart like me would want to play in my snazzy new VR whatchamacallit.
Awesome! Loved the first two. Can’t wait to play this.
That looks incredible!!
Looks really interesting
Nice. Bring on Centipede, let's squash those mean bugs. 🤔
That's an Atari 400 on the right of 2600 on the desk, we had one of them!!!
My dad brought one home when I was about 5 years old with a copy of Star Raiders and my gaming hobby began. Who'd have thought 40 odd years later be revisiting it via virtual reality.
Makes you wonder what gaming will be like in another 40 years time.
What a great idea. I'd be happy to pay to re-live some early 2600 memories in VR. Would literally bring a whole new dimension to Tank Battle, Space Invaders, PacMan and so on!
This looks like a ton of fun!!
Looks amazing 👏
@get2sammyb Might be getting PSVR2 versions of the first two.
