Gianni Infantino, the head of football’s governing body FIFA, says that it will have news “very soon” on a rival to EA Sports FC, following EA Sports’ decision to drop the iconic license. The recently re-elected president – who is presiding over controversial tournament changes, like the expansion of the World Cup – suggested there’ll be a new FIFA game for the 2025 season and beyond.
According to The Times scribe Martyn Ziegler, Infantino promised it will deliver the “best e-game for any girl or boy” – whatever the hell that means!
We doubt EA Sports will be too concerned, to be honest. Despite deciding not to renew the FIFA license, it will still retain access to player likenesses, official league brandings, and much more. In fact, the publisher has suggested in the past that FIFA was stifling its creativity, and so moving forward it should have a little more freedom under its new brand name.

I love me a good e-game. Sports!
Don’t know which of the two parties I dislike more to be honest.
They are both terrible entities lead by disgusting individuals. Throw them in a hole and let them slap each other to oblivion.
So I take it they are just going to try and tack their name to another existing or in one of the to be released in production franchises set to release soon. Unless they've been working on this for years (they haven't) I don't think they would make anything at or near a top tier game. Unless they go the mobile route.
As long as they don't take the E-football route, I might give it a try.
And who's actually making it for this corrupt organisation?
Christ. This guy clearly has no idea how difficult/ how long it takes to make a game. Looking forward to seeing FIFA waste money on a pointless endeavour. I guess it won't matter though, they can always swindle and extort more.
Id welcome any competition to be honest.
I've probably played FIFA 23 more than anything since it released but then I have haven't really had much option since Konami kind of threw in the towel as far as Pro Evolution soccer goes.
Be very interesting to see who's actually developing this. It'll need to have a huge budget to compete with EA Sports' output on any level.
Absolute scenes when they agree terms with Konami
It'll be Actua Soccer completely untouched from the 90's with a FIFA 25 logo slapped on it and recent player names.
Guaranteed to be absolute dirt.
"You have received an exclusive Brown Envelope funds pack for registering your FIFA account! Would you like to open it?"
@BowTiesAreCool I would love this. eFootball had an incredibly rough (and largely unnecessary) transition from PES but with ongoing updates it actually plays really well, much better than FIFA. The trouble is it's massively lacking in content... still no master league, edit mode, limited teams etc.
Surprised he didn’t go on a rant about how “Today I feel like a developer during crunch!”
@BowTiesAreCool I hope so, e football 23 has turned into a decent game on a pure gameplay level. It could do with some licences
If Fromsoft made a e-game hmmm. Sports go!
FIFA has always been pretty poor on the field ..so having another new football game is welcome ... although I don't expect much
FIFA e-football 25
'pass the brown bag to win your league'
What the **** is an e-game??? This man is an absolute fool.
I kind of wanna see the disaster of a game that would be farted out in a year and a half of development but since it’s FIFA a couple dozen Pakistani, Indian or Bangladeshi developers would have been worked to death so maybe not.
How can you this a re election without a opponent? FIFA the most corrupt organisation around.
“best e-game for any girl or boy”
Oh dear you can just see the ignorance of how the video game industry works a mile away with a quote like that! EA probably saw that quote and said "Welp get ready to celebrate our victory everone! We got this in the bag!"
I don't really follow soccer much but this whole situation does amuse me!
"Today, I am a game programmer."
The e-game comment really suggests it's konami.
Though i would be surprised to see Konami invest so much on it.
Only other i'd see is 2K.
FIFA is a deeply corrupt, hopelessly inept organization run by absolute buffoons who assume any game with "FIFA" in its title will sell millions of copies. I suppose they will try to develop the game themselves, thinking they can keep all of the profits instead of only getting a big licensing deal from 2K or Konami, and the result will be an absolute dumpster fire.
I'm probably wrong but it will be fun to see what happens!

It was a sad day for football seeing this guy re-elected unopposed. Surely there is someone with half a brain that can do good for world football?
I hope EA Sports FC crushes the next FIFA game.
Wow we've turned over a whole new era when gamers are actually cheering on EA as the good guys!
"Today, I feel like a video game publisher (with ginger hair)."
Now, far be it for me to support this idiot, but if he released Sensible World of Soccer on the PS5, updated with today's players, I'd be all over it.
I think it may be wishful thinking though...
When ever i see this guy sloth from the goonies always pops into my head..
@Northern_munkey Until he opens his mouth. Then you realise that Sloth has a higher IQ.
@lankieBD
Yes, but then EA target addictive gambling mechanics at kids…it’s hard to know who’s scummier.
Infantino is not a pleasant character, but isn’t this site above taking a derisory tone toward’s someone’s command of English? Seems like a bit of a cheap shot.
"any girl or boy" shows a massive ignorance of what FIFA the game is and shows they still think of video games for children. Think they might get a shock when they discover adults play games too.
How wrong they are and how right EA are to get rid.
I'm 30+ and play it most days. Maybe I'm the only one... sigh.
What do you want to bet they end up releasing a mobile game driven purely on rand rolled micro transactions with little to no on field play?
"best e-game for any girl or boy” from a man that knows near nothing about video games and their development inspires no confidence. Best thing for them is to just rent the IP name to someone like 2K or Konami and let them handle the hassle. They will never be able to beat EA Sports. Eidos kept Championship Manager IP but couldn't compete with the real thing Sports Interactive and Football Manager same with Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons
