After an outstanding PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium update earlier this week, attention now turns to PS Plus Essential – which will be furnished with another launch day addition in April. While the full lineup is still to be confirmed, we know that creative shooter Meet Your Maker will be available day one, from 4th April. So, what do you need to know about it?
Well, it’s being developed by Canadian studio Behaviour Interactive, who’s perhaps best known for its asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight (more on that momentarily). But conceptually, this couldn’t be more different: it combines building and raiding, where every single level in the release is created by fans.
The idea is that you’ll need to construct labyrinths to protect a precious material named GenMat, while other players will try to raid your base to steal it away. You’ll obviously also be able to loot the outposts of other players to take the precious currency away from them, allowing you to further fortify your own stronghold with even more cunning contraptions.
One of the neat features in this game is you’ll be able to carefully analyse the attacks on your base, so you can see how players are overcoming your defences, and make adjustments accordingly. If all this sounds too isolating, then you can build and attack co-operatively if you like, so there’s a collaborative multiplayer aspect to the experience as well.
The developer’s said it’s treating this game like a live service, so it’s eager to add dastardly traps, deadly weapons, and more over time. It’s starting out with a Dead by Daylight crossover: if you own both games, then you’ll automatically unlock content in each one, including unique props and decorations in Meet Your Maker to further customise your outpost with.
The full lineup of crossover content is as follows:
Meet Your Maker
- 2 Building blocks inspired by the Macmillan Estate Realm
- 1 Animated Generator Prop
- 1 Pallet Prop
- 1 Basement Light Prop
- An assortment of decals including Scratch marks, Blood Trails, Bunny Feng, Nea’s Grafiti, and more.
Dead by Daylight
- Very rare Pentekath’s Suit for Meg Thomas
- 3 unique Killer weapons for The Trapper (Crunching Blade), The Huntress (Toothed Axe), and The Wraith (Biomechanical Spine)
Ultimately, we’re quite excited to test this title out when PS Plus updates on 4th April, 2023. Clearly the developer’s been inspired by those viral Super Mario Maker videos, but it’s managed to attach a reward loop to overcoming impossible odds. If accumulating GenMat genuinely feels rewarding, and the moment-to-moment FPS raiding is rock solid, then this could be a surprise hit.

not sure its for me but will give it a go
I feel like this is the perfect type of game to launch day 1 on PS plus. Don’t think I’d have bought it, but definitely will check it out now
Sounds really intriguing, if they do keep adding more and keeping it fresh it could be great. I loved playing player levels on mario maker 2, some people are geniuses.
I do like the idea of building a base and then seeing how differently players try to beat it.
Not one for me, most likely. Looking forward to learning what other games will accompany it in April.
Just like with Mario Maker, LBP and Dreams I absolutely suck at making my own creations and find it tedious and time consuming, but with those games it wasn't necessary and could enjoy millions of other users creations without the need of making your own.
But this game seems like its necessary to create your own level/s so I may give it a miss.
These games are like open buffet foods that no one ever eats.
Meh, idk. I have a life (sort of) and a job so games like this that require a huge time commitment, or savant like architectural skills, just aren't realistic options. They sound cool in theory, but when how you spend your time is kinda zero sum, I'm not seeing doing anything more with this game than booting it up once just to turn it off 15 minutes later and never touch it again.
More Ghostrunner than DOOM for me personally!
@OScube
Shame as it is really good food, I have spent more time in Dreams and the Far Cry map editor than most other games.
@PegasusActual93 I hope you enjoy it
