Sonic the Hedgehog is now a successful movie franchise as well as a gaming one, with two big silver screen outings for SEGA's mascot landing big at the box office. Things are far from finishing there, though — we know a third film is heading our way, and a spin-off TV series all about Knuckles has also previously been announced. Speaking of which, that latter project is now spinning into production.
Confirming the news on the official Sonic Twitter, work has officially begun on the show:
As reported by Variety, Idris Elba will return to voice the titular echidna. He'll be joined by Adam Pally, who plays recurring character Wade Whipple in the films and in Knuckles' TV show. Other confirmed talent includes Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor.
The series will take place between the events of the second and third Sonic movies, but little is known about what it will entail. We do know that Knuckles "agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior", according to Paramount.

Here he comes, rougher than the rest of them, the best of them, tougher than leather
imagine if they made sonic games this cool
paramount? oh god.
Anything until the end of time that has Idis in there will in my head canon simply be Some Title & Knuckles.
There's a rumour going around that they're going to introduce Rouge in this show which would make sense she kinda needs to be around for the next film and if she's introduced here you don't have to worry about spending screentime setting her up or rushing her character development. That and she's been a rival character to Knuckles for ages now
@Keyblade-Dan I can see it. Knuckles and Wade have an adventure which brings them to London, they locate a chaos emerald or something in a museum only to find it stolen by a certain jewel thief. Antics ensue.
Nobody has paramount plus and I’d doubt this will sway it. Here’s hoping they get absorbed by Netflix/Prime/Disney+
The 'Sonic & Knuckles' of the Sonic Cinematic Universe
I came here to laugh at this even being a thing but then I saw the UK cast ft. Julian Barratt aka. Dan Ashcroft, aka. Howard Moon, aka. Mindhorn. So therefore it might have a chance to actually be okay
But then again I won't be watching it, as I don't ever want a Paramount sub and I didn't even enjoy the sonic film and I have no interest or affiliation to the games either tbh 😂 so yeah...
I’m so excited for this! I can’t see how it’ll be good, but I don’t care. Always loved Knuckles.
@Sakisa
“They call me the fighting freak Knuckles, and we at Pumpkin Hill. You ready?”
“I ain’t gonna let ‘em get to me I’m just gonna creep.”
Certified hood classic. Too bad the has been that wrote it ended up being a pile of garbage.
I do understand when astronomically big movie series like Star Wars and the MCU do their spin off series, but please not every halfways successful movie with some half baked idea. You got this, peacemaker, penguin, the continental, ... admittedly from mostly good movies, but not enough interest or time to delve into extended lore. But hey, it's not about the art but about the amount of content you can throw out there.
I had to look up who Wade was again, saw it is Tom's follow cop buddy and went "huh, okay". He was/is pretty forgettable to me like most of the humans in the movies.
I don't expect great things from this tv series but I do hope it doesn't focus entirely on the unlikely dou here.
Milking it now.
I'll be watching the series ASAP! Loved both movies and have enjoyed some of the other Sonic shows and games.
