Insomniac Games has asked fans for patience, as anticipation for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reaches fever pitch. Thus far we’ve only seen one trailer for the game, but the PS5 exclusive is apparently due out in September, and some people are pondering why it’s taking so long for the studio to show more footage.
“We’re in the kitchen,” is the analogy the studio used in response to a fan who questioned why it’s taking so long to reveal new media. “It smells good in there, but we just ask for a little more patience.”
Earlier this week, Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal said he’d completed his work on the game in a Reddit AMA, only to say the opposite on Twitter a few hours later. We’re almost certain we’ll be seeing a lot more of the release during some kind of PlayStation Showcase this summer, but seeing as Sony’s yet to actually date an event, we’re all going to have to sit tight a little longer.

Hopefully we get a showcase next month. Sony has a ton of studios now and we only know about like 3 titles.
Kinda tired of how entitled people are nowadays.. "It's been weeks with no news!!! We want news NOW!"
Even if they update about the game people are still gonna be upset over it. Let them do their damn job. Info will drop when its time.
I don't even need to see trailer's or news on this game. Just release it when it's ready and I'll buy it.
I only blame Sony for this. Whatever their marketing strategy for games is at the moment is leaving people frustrated.
Hopefully all is fixed in a couple months because it feels like Sony has a mixture of at least ten games to announce / dates to reveal for games
@B-I-G-DEVIL
Frustration seems to be good for business then.
They did the exact same tactic this time last year with Ragnarok and its still selling well. PS5 sales ain't doing too badly neither.
@Atreus97 this time last year PlayStation had just released 3 new games on PS4, PS5
Big difference to this year. Wouldn't say anyone was frustrated last year.
@rawzeku it’s actually been years, and it is something Sony wants people to pay for and they have invested a bit on the machine plus ecosystem. Not sure why people defend mega corporations instead of users.
If Sony didn’t have to make themselves look weak thanks to the AB deal over at Microsoft, there would have been a surplus of info and gameplay for Spider-Man 2 by now. I am personally happy to have seen nothing as yet, the game will be good for sure and at times way more info is shared on new games than is needed! Hopefully a summer showcase will show the strength that Sony undoubtedly has waiting in the wings. There is nothing to hold them back now I guess.
I don't know what people are expecting but nothing ground-breaking from me.
I think it will be similar successor with mere improvements same as God of War or Horizon - outstanding game, amazing graphics but no major changes.
@Casco I have so many great games to finish on the PS5 there is nothing to defend it just a product I enjoy.
Asking a certain group of gamers to be patient 😂.
@rawzeku I think they should just release stuff when it's ready, with teasers that reveal nothing for marketing.
I don’t get how not a single one of Sony’s studios have something to show. They bought up all those smaller studios that are working on apparently live-service or mobile games, didn’t seem to invest in any future tentpole 1st party support for the PS5. That guide you put up to what each studio are working on makes for damning reading.
@B-I-G-DEVIL
You've forgotten Cory Barlog and his "when it's ready" tweet responses. Also the Santa Monica devs getting abused due to lack of footage/news.
There was loads of frustration
Patience people, good things come to those who wait.
Beginning the message with Then sounds a bit aggressive to me
@rawzeku I laughed when I read that tweet. ‘How dare you not keep me up to date with the games progress! Do you know who I am? I’m Ronnie 🤬 Pickering!’ 😂
@MrMeeeseeeks It reminds me of a child from Willy Wonka... I want it and I want it Now
@Atreus97 I'm focusing on 20 PlayStation studios where over half have not made any new game announcement or update in the past 2/3 years.
The only ones we know of are Spider-Man, Wolverine and Factions. It makes people more naggy than normal for updates and frustrated more since it's coming up to 20 months since last major update on what PlayStation studios are working on.
I personally prefer this to few years ago where we had the same games at all the showcases on repeat until the released. But feel like an update is overdue now. Which we hopefully get in next couple months
@nessisonett 25+ games are in development,12 are live service and the remaining 13-14 games are traditional single player games . So much for not investing in single player games. I wish some people did some basic research instead of just assuming nonsensical stuff.
Don’t know what people are so excited about. It’ll be like the last two pretty much.
@jimbouk Tell me a single player first party game with a release date.
“The game is supposedly coming out in a few months, yet you have done nothing to show us anything.”
This is an amazingly obnoxious sentence. If they were going for a combination of petulance and rudeness, mission accomplished.
Let the devs work. They will show something when they are ready.
This isn't Insomniac it's just this new dumba@# Sony that wants to wait till the last second to show anything. Their cool with leaving six plus months of silence at a time or just drop some lame SOP that shows third party stuff we knew was already coming out, and expect the fans to be happy with that.
@Americansamurai1 I remember people expecting a showcase all last year and nothing. You have to expect the bare minimum from Sony these days,wouldn’t surprise me if Spider-Man is the only first party game this whole year.
@nessisonett totally agree!they stated half of the budget would go on live service games but it looks a damn sight more than that to me,it's also completely the opposite of why I buy a sony game!I haven't enjoyed a live service-multiplayer game in 20 years so as someone who's been with sony consoles since 1997 it doesn't look great
@jimbouk 13 or 14 single player games??
@nessisonett That will become more clear in the inevitable showcase that will probably take place around late May/Early June.
@jimbouk So none then?
@nessisonett I thought exactly the same thing mate, hopefully cards are just being played extremely close to the chest.
@nessisonett Lol still in disbelief are you? I will wait till the showcase is announced and a bunch of stuff is announced, many including single player games.
There was no showcase last year because the majority of first party dev's were not ready to show anything.
@Mauzuri Just a quick 5 min gameplay demo would do
@jimbouk We’ve been waiting for a showcase to be announced. Every month is the month that a showcase is apparently coming. Until things are actually announced, they don’t officially exist. That’s the truth of the matter - we know that Spider-Man 2 is coming but until it has a firm release date, it’s up in the air.
Most games this big get at least to delays.
@Shad361 I could see 1-2 live service titles this year. Like Helldivers 2 and firewalk title.
It smells good in there but we got more ingredients to put in there.spices.peppers.salt.onions.bacon.eggs.sausages.there i fix it for you insomniac games.word up son
Yuri said he’s finished with Mocap and voice acting for Spider-Man 2
On Twitter someone asked him if he was done with mocap and voice acting for Spider-Man (without the number 2 so I’m assuming Yuri read it as Spider-Man in general)
And that’s when Yuri said no they still got a lot to do. (Maybe hinting that they are working on something other than just Spider-Man 2…. maybe Spider-Man shows up in Wolverine? Maybe another Spider-Man spin off sequel like Miles Morales? Doubt it would be Spider-Man 3.)
Spoiler: it's going to look like the last one but better, Peter Parker won't shut up, & will randomly turn into a fridge while swinging around the city.
Cory Barlog said the same, and then the second trailer dropped and the game released a few months later.
@B-I-G-DEVIL
I think it's because of the no showcase since more than a year. It's too much honestly. A big showcase should happen once a year, and a few state of play in between, even if it's a one game sop.
@misak192
That's what sequels are for.
@GodofCapcom yes 2021 they had it right for me with state of plays and the September showcase. Hopefully this year is shaping up to be similar
Suspicious that he says it smells. I hope this game doesn't stink!
JUST LET THEM COOK
The new news media format for AAA+ games is drip marketing. Look at Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom less than a month away. Good times!
Sony probably expecting a bit of a dry patch after street fighter 6 and ff16 launch in June, so waiting to flood out all the info
@rawzeku y’all really love that word “entitled”
Removed - flaming/arguing
Fingers crossed we get a release date trailer during the rumored May showcase.
Two words... Thirty frames.
Its been talked about and its been shouted about for so long.
But I need to say it again. Fans and gamers need to stand down and just zip it.
This generation of gamers are just so negativity all of the time.
Developers cant win. We either;
Moan when we don't.
Moan when we do.
Moan when a game is shown in advance.
Moan when a game isn't.
Moan a game is shown to much.
Moan when a game isn't shown much.
It just has to stop. The game isn't even out till September, and that isn't even officially been announced with a date. We are still in April.
Why should we have all the information a year out. Why not have a marketing campaign a month out.
We know full well that who ever is interested in spiderman 2 or any major game for that matter, os going to buy it day one anyway.
I like to see the ones who complain, do a marketing campaign and see how hype actually works.
@Bez87 Yep it is the crybaby's generation of gamers ! Now days !
@Repo_Dog I just remember the days, of a game announcement and then a bit of coverage in a few magazines up to the release.
Just pure excitement for the games release.
Now its omg whens the next trailer. Omg I dont know if im gonna be able to swing around a city, omg ive see those boat animations somewhere before what is this, omg ive seen this game every week this is utter disgraceful behaviour by the devs.
I'm in full agreement with the crybaby generation
And now even news outlets only thing to report on is fans angry they haven't seen or seen to much.
With Sony not doing a showcase at all since September 2021, it seems more clear why Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine were announced so early. Shame though, would've been cool to have had Sony follow Nintendo's model of mostly announcing games less than a year before launch (a lot of the time it being up to 6 months before launch).
Tbh, I thought it was further away and wouldn’t make it in 2023 so it’s a nice surprise it gets a release this year.
In hindsight, the game not being on my radar on a more constant basis is a good thing.
We know the built quality is going to be stellar and that’s what counts imo.
