NIS America has announced that The Caligula Effect 2 is getting a PS5 version this Autumn / Fall. The quirky RPG originally released for the PS4 back in October 2021, and was fairly well received by fans of the genre.
If you're out of the loop, The Caligula Effect 2 has some slight Persona vibes, as a group of highschool students take on a weird illusory world. Battles are turn-based with a hint of strategy, and the story's got some cool ideas.
We called it a "rough but intriguing JRPG" in our The Caligula Effect 2 PS4 review, awarding it a respectable but somewhat cautionary 6/10. "A relatively unique experience," we concluded.
There's no mention of specific improvements in this PS5 port, so we assume that this is just NIS America taking advantage of a re-release on a popular platform, much like it's been doing with Ys VIII and Ys IX.

@FenIsMightier I dipped in and out of the first one for a long time until I finally beat it. There was a lot to like about it, but at the same time I thought some of the dungeons got to be a bit of a drag. I have the second one but haven’t jumped in yet. Glad to hear it has a good soundtrack!
The only upgrade would be an English dub.
Cool. But once again I bet zero upgrade discount or free upgrade. So hard pass, which is a shame as I really liked it.
And similar to everything NIS has ported over lately, it feels like a terrible cash grab with minimal upgrades. But we'll see.
