The latest patch for Horizon Forbidden West's excellent expansion, Burning Shores, is now available on PS5. Taking the game to version 1.23, this 3.8GB update makes some important fixes to common issues and much more. Beware: the patch notes below may contain spoilers!
Several fixes have been made to Quests of all shapes and sizes, eliminating progression blockers and other nasty issues. One that we've seen complaints about before is Aerial Capture: North failing to work properly — that's been addressed here. In addition, issues with the Stormbird on the western part of the map have been resolved.
It's a pretty large update that makes dozens of fixes, so it's probably best to check out the full patch notes below.
FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
Main Quests
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “To the Burning Shores” where restarting from save after the opening cinematic would despawn the machines players need to kill during the “Kill the Machines” objective, blocking progression.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “To the Burning Shores” where the Bilegut could fall through geometry after a jumping attack, blocking progression during “Kill the Bilegut” objective.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “To the Burning Shores” where under certain conditions the Bilegut corpse would not spawn, possibly causing players to miss out on a special outfit mod.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “To the Burning Shores” where fast traveling during “Follow Seyka into the Tower” objective could lead to Seyka no longer leading the player upon returning to the quest area, blocking progression.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “To the Burning Shores” regarding Aloy’s outfit and headdress during the opening cinematic.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “Heaven and Earth” where fast traveling during “Create a Path to the Facility Entrance” objective could lead to a progression blocker.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “Heaven and Earth” where Seyka could become idle during the crane and ballista puzzle.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “The Stars in Their Eyes” where a Bilegut could be killed in a spot that would block a generator, making it impossible to override the control node, blocking progression.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “For His Amusement” where restarting from save after pulling the lever during “Reset the Power” objective would lead to a progression blocker.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “His Final Act” where backtracking after destroying the heat sink could block progression.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “His Final Act” where progressing through the quest too quickly could cause an error in Seyka’s buddy behavior, blocking progression.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “His Final Act” where players might get stuck when getting close to the Horus tentacles.
- Fixed an issue for Main Quest “His Final Act” where players would fall out of the Horus interior.
Side Quests
- Fixed an issue for Side Quest “In His Wake” where fast traveling during objective “Investigate the Skirmish Site” could lead to a progression blocker.
- Fixed an issue for Side Quest “A Friend in the Dark” where players could reach the valve wheel by jumping onto rocks and walls, skipping part of the puzzle.
World Activities
- Fixed an issue for “Aerial Capture: North” where players would not be able to go to the start of the flight path after examining the improvised transmitter, making the activity incompletable.
- Fixed an issue for Cauldron “THETA” where players were able to skip a room by sliding through the door to the next room before it closes.
- Fixed an issue for Cauldron “THETA” where players could skip interacting with the controllable drone by jumping on walls and other geometry to progress through the room.
- Fixed an issue where the Stormbird would not show up in the storm cloud until players restarted from save or died. This left players unable to start “Aerial Capture: West” and unable to collect Delver’s Trinket collectable “Mighty Pint”, thereby blocking the Errand Quest “The Delver’s Trove”.
- Fixed an issue for the Stormbird in the storm cloud where if players were killed and then left the area, upon returning and killing the Stormbird the electric discharge would not open the locked doors on the island. This left players unable to start “Aerial Capture: West” and unable to collect Delver’s Trinket collectable “Mighty Pint”, thereby blocking the Errand Quest “The Delver’s Trove”.
- Fixed an issue for the Stormbird in the storm cloud where callouts and tracks were present during Main Quest “To the Burning Shores” although the Stormbird encounter is not active during this quest.
- Fixed an issue for Delver’s Trinket collectable “Music Box” where the item’s description would not show up in the notebook. This issue blocked the Errand Quest “The Delver’s Trove”.
- Fixed an issue for “Pangea Figurines” where players were able to enter the answers to the Dino Digits Quiz before collecting the figurines, making it incompletable later.
Datapoints
- Fixed a translation issue for datapoint “IN FOR IT” guiding players “northwest” when it should be “northeast”, possibly causing issues finding “Pangea Figurines” collectable the “Green Raptor”. Without this collectable, players would not be able to complete the Dino Digits Quiz.
Machines
- Fixed an issue where the Fireclaw would stay down indefinitely if knocked down.
- Fixed an issue where the acid VFX of an acid attack of the Bilegut would persist indefinitely.
- Fixed an issue where flying Sunwings were stuck in place.
- Fixed an issue where the Horus AA Cannon would not deal damage to players.
- Fixed an issue where Stingspawn would not engage with players.
Weapons
- Fixed an issue where the focus scan could not be canceled by aiming a weapon.
- Fixed an issue where applying “Draw Speed” Weapon Coils to Hunter Bows would slow down draw speed.
Skills
- Fixed an issue where performing Grapple Strike on a Corruptor could lead to clipping and camera problems.
- Fixed an issue where the Minefield Valor Sure would cause problems when activated on uneven terrain.
UI/UX
- Fixed issues for roads on the in-game map.
- Fixed an issue where the buddy icon and the quest marker would show up above Seyka at the same time.
Performance and Stability
- Multiple crash/hang fixes.
- Multiple loading screen fixes.
- Optimization of art and game assets.

I finished this 2 nights ago and happy to say I didn't run into any of these issues. I got the gold medal for completing all quests. Though I did cheat and look up where 3&4 of the delver items where, would never have found them otherwise.
That said, there were some weird floating item issues here and there, felt like the dlc needed a little more q&a time. All of these fixes kind of confirms that for me.
Glad I played it and finished it, felt I needed the 2 weeks off before Zelda, watching TV until then.
That's a lot of different softlocks I thankfully didn't experience at all when I was 100%ing this yesterday. The most I got were minor audio bugs such as Aloy randomly saying stuff like "I can use this later" at inappropriate times (e.g. while flying), or a manual marker bugging out on me.
Just started this today so glad to have the update. As suspected though, literally forgotten everything about how to play this game. Going to be a slog for a while as i get back into it
The only issue I had when playing is the very last datapoint didn't register in my collection for some reason.
I remember something similar happening with Forbidden West actually.
I’m most of the way through this and haven’t come across too many issues. I’ve seen some pop in a few times but that’s about it.
Overall I like this much better than the base game story.
The "follow Seika to the tower" bug was annoying, but at least I could move on after a few reloads. No new glitchs after that, but I didn't ended the DLC yet.
Best 20$ DLC of a AAA game in recent memory.
Doesn’t actually fix the Aerial Capture, unfortunately
I’m loving the expansion, but I’m really just here to applaud the sub heading. Bravo!
Didn't have any major issues during my playthrough. Felt very polished Day 1. A couple of small texture or animation issues were all I had across my 10-20 hour complete playthrough.
@Voltan yeah same. I just updated and gave it a try but it’s still the same and doesn’t trigger the flight starting point.
Nice! I didnt run into any issues but more stability is always welcome. I'm almost finished the story missions.
I beat the base game in my PS4 and the DLC in the PS5. In the base game I faced two bizarre issues.
When I got an Overdrive for a cauldron, while the elevator was going up, Aloy automatically fell from the edge in a black abyss!! Restarting from a checkpoint worked and I lost no progress. Sometimes, when it was snowing the frame rate tanked. Restarting fixed it, even if it was still snowing.
As for the DLC I fell off the geometry both in land and sea a couple of times and I had to randomly jump around to get out!!!!
Too bad you cannot fix a bad story with a patch though.
I ran into a couple of these show stoppers, had to restart and redo but managed to get past.
Yeeeesh! That's a ton of main story issues for a 5 quest, 5-6 hour main story dlc campaign.
@Neonix would you feel the same if she was a straight woman making out with a man? I wonder.
Also: politics and sociology aren't the same. As far as i am concerned the game doesn't say anything about politics. Why twisting it, and plotting this is a master plan by ...whom?? Oh right, Soros???? Please
Happy to see the DLC is being actively patched! I look forward to playing it in a few months.
Like others have said, this update doesn't fix the North Aerial. I've done all the others and I'm using a save where I haven't interacted with the North one yet, went to trigger it and nothing happens. Oh well. Guess I'll wait for another patch.
@Neonix No.
You can mask it whatever you want, but if she was a straight woman making out with a man, we would not be having this discussion.
As a gay man, i would never say such a thing about games with straight people. Why should you?
There are no politics involved at all. Just a representation of this diverse society. If you don't like it, move to an isolated island.
And the franchise isn't dead. Sorry to disappoint.
Yours truly,
The Awokest of the awoken
@Neonix 100% agree. Haven't played the DLC yet (almost done with FF6 Pixel Remaster first) but had this pre-ordered for a while. I'll see how it feels but if its all in your face and front and center in Horizon 3, I'll also be sadly checking out of this amazing series prematurely. I won't support agenda pushing. This is the trending checkbox right now and not only does it go against my values, but it just straight up pulls you out of the narrative and ruins the immersion imho.

I mostly ignore this type of thing and feel engaging just gives it more attention which it doesn't deserve but..
Imagine feeling like seeing the simple act of a woman kiss a woman in a video game is "pushing political agendas in your face", of which I'd argue that isn't even political. Of all the political themes in this game, (i.e. Capitalism), that's the one you want to focus on? Which says to me you don't really care about "political agendas being pushed", just things you don't like. Same story with that uni sex toilet sign in Dead Space, actually pitiful and pathetic. And I wouldn't take the number of reviews as showing a minority or not. I would say that the actual snowflakes (I.e. the ones actually offended? at this) are the only ones who care enough to post something about it, the ones who aren't go on with their day, no ones interested in a review post war.

@jimbouk at this point i am starting to believe they are bots sent by the competitors to diminish the brand. Hey, anything is possible nowadays!
It is hard for me to believe people like that exist.
@LAA I keep wondering if I’m missing a scene on the beach that forces you to attend a political rally for a socialist Quen or an right wing Oseram because I don’t get the connection between politics and who one person (or imaginary character) falls in love with. People carry their baggage with them, I guess. Even into their escapist hobbies.
I don’t understand why people claim ownership over games. It’s not your game it’s Guerilla’s game and honestly if you choose not to play it because of a gay relationship… that the game let’s you opt out of… they won’t even notice because millions of people will still play it.
Still can't access Aerial North Capture.

Didn't read the complete list or all of the comments, but I did run into the Aerial Capture North bug, which sounds like has NOT actually been fixed.
I'm about to start the 'His Final Act' quest, I think ( just finished the amusement park/volcano quest). Hopefully any related bugs in the list have actually been fixed.
Aerial capture north still isn’t fixed for me
@Krysus agreed it took me 18 hours to do everything besides aerial north because it’s glitched on me and explore the whole map and I loved it the whole way through. Seyka was an awesome new character who I hope shows up in 3 and that amusement park mission was just 👌
Aerial North bug was not fixed
Rofl. Good lord that's a LOT of moderated comments.
