The excitement for Mortal Kombat 1, after a single cinematic teaser trailer, is through the roof. The game has rocketed up the PS Store pre-order charts, and is now currently the most pre-ordered title for PS5 in both the United States and UK. That means it’s trending above the likes of Diablo 4, which just got a major beta and is due out imminently.
Perhaps most impressively, thirsty gamers are punting for the more expensive premium edition, which costs £99.99/$109.99, and comes with early access and the title’s first Kombat Pack – the contents of which potentially leaked late last week. It’s possible we may get our glimpse of first gameplay during tomorrow’s PS Showcase, in which pre-orders are likely to get another boost.
This is going to be big, folks!

Not surprising mk sales a lot.
$110 for a digital version of a game you'll never own. Impressive what so many have become accustom into accepting.
@KaijuKaiser yeah it probably be one of the biggest selling games this year. Warner bros is having a great year. Hogwarts legacy has the potential to be the highest selling game this year. Be nice to see a game beat cod for once.
@FenIsMightier If you buy physical, you DO own the game. The exception is if you buy the disc to an online only game like Destiny, then you're at the behest of the servers being active. A game like MK, Uncharted, or anything else single player, you own it. Even if the publisher sent out a kill script to disable every install... all you have to do is disconnect said system from the internet and continue playing.
You own your copy of a physical game.
@Americansamurai1 Great year with this and Hogwarts but they were also going to release Suicide Squad, which didn't go so well
@KaijuKaiser I'm not a troll. I'm telling it how it is. I said my piece above and won't bother going further into detail from that aspect.
@Voltan very true, but it still might sell good since it's dc. I'm not interested in it, but dc fans might be
@KaijuKaiser You're incorrect. I'm giving a viewpoint on an aspect of the game that's relevant to this article. You want to talk just about the other aspects like how well MK will do? We know it will do well. MK has traditionally always done well. That's the extent of that conversation. Happy?
Goes to show what an amazing trailer (and a strong brand) can do. Here's hoping it turns out good. I used to be a huge fan of fighting games, but not as much any more. Something gotta change. Then again, as long as they sell, they don't need to.
Despite how dumb calling this MK1, I ended up preordering the kollector's edition.
This is why I'm never getting Injustice 3.
A different angle on this... anyone remembering when MK Deception launched on PS2 and Xbox? You got a second disc with MK1 or 2 on it and a Kollector's Kard that was metal. PS2 had Sub-Zero while Xbox got Baraka, Melina, and Scorpion. I think Raiden was on one of them as well. All depended on which store you bought the game at.
Just checked for the $110 physical copy of MK1 on Gamestop, you get only digital items and a steelbook. I think it'd be more enticing if they went with Kollector's Kards again. Maybe instead of metal, have a regular set with all the characters? Might be fun.
@KaijuKaiser
With all due respect @Uncharted2007 is entitled to his opinion and freedom of speech. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have the right to tell him not to talk about something. You saying you don't want to see it is a you problem. That be the case just press the ignore button and anyone else can do the same. Then that solves the 'you problem'.
On topic or off its not for you to decide who can say what they want. You can only deal with it in a manner appropriate to yourself.
Not to sound disrespectful but telling him not to speak his mind while you speak yours makes you a hypocrite.
Have a nice day to you and all.
@GADG3Tx87 people seem to throw around the word "hypocrite" seemingly without realizing its meaning. To be a hypocrite, you have to do exactly what you accuse the other person of doing. So in this case it would be to comment on other articles and go on and on about how much better digital over physical is irrespective of the topic at hand, only to then scold someone for commenting on physical vs digital on another article.
Just my two cents.
This is definitely a contender for pre-order but man I really need to see something besides a cinematic trailer first. NRS has a good record don't get me wrong but we know so little right now I'm surprised by the response.
@Uncharted2007 if physical media was actually owning the game i would agree but $110 for the physical version that has half the game and a license on disk isn’t much better. Unless the plan is to sell it, in which case i question why someone would pay $110 for something they intend to not keep. Physical media is dying a slow painful death in retail stores. My local Best Buy and even GameStop barely have any games on the shelves. It’s all hardware and accessories and those big headed toys. I want physical to stick around for those that enjoy it. But Digital is working its way to 70% of PS5’s income and i can see why from multiple accounts.
@Uncharted2007 or a figurine or something. you can't go wrong with those. digital only items + steel book feels a bit lazy.
@naruball
I just meant it in the sense that @KaijuKaiser has said he doesn't want to see the statement of topic @Uncharted2007 brought up based on his own opinion of a sales medium. Then saying mods should remove his comment in effect to silence him preventing @Uncharted2007 from speaking his mind on a subject.
@KaijuKaiser then effectively had spoken his mind on how he felt of the situation. Two people spoke their mind but one of those two somewhat passive aggressively is saying @Uncharted2007 cannot speak his asking mods to silence him. Hence my use of the term "hypocrite".
I mean no disrespect to either of them in my comment nor to yourself. It just seemed very unfair to desire silencing him because he doesn't like what was said while having the entitlement to speak his own mind. It was the morality of the situation it was aimed at not the subject.
Again, no disrespect towards anyone. And as stated prior this is what the ignore button is for. Just as anyone has the right to ignore me for my opinion. Which I don't find offensive.
On topic though, fighting games are a popular genre to a lot of people who grew up at the end of the 80's and early 90's when all we had was mostly fighting and platformers. It's not surprising to see Mortal Kombat already in the charts when it has been a beloved franchise for 30 years. In some cases there were arguments over MK and Street Fighter superiority back then (SNES for me) and it will be interesting to see which comes out on top. Even though I have yet to hear Street Fighter preorder popularity. I'm looking forward to the game awards on this one.
I've pre-ordered the Premium Edition on disc because I was always an MK fan over SF and that trailer has me hyped.
In the interest of anyone in the UK I posted on the forums here yesterday that I've found the Premium Edition up for grabs for £68.85 physically which is a good saving from the £89.99 RRP given how expensive games have become.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post links, but.

Some might remember these guys who were once called base.com. their preorder day guarantee can be a little off as I once had Catherine:Full Body arrive one day late but for the sake of saving some money I thought I'd share it.
Digital Premium Edition being $110 is kind of a big oof in my eyes.
Better to just wait until the Complete Complete Complete Edition lol
@Deadlyblack
I fully get where you're coming from that an Ultimate Edition would be excellent value for money but personally I'd worry that in say two years (maybe) when that happens multiplayer might have dwindled significantly player wise. And atleast in the begining you've got a better chance of meeting and facing average players (like myself 😂) to play with. I feel like I'd be missing out a little. Even though all those inevitable character packs are going to cost me a fortune over time lol.
Unless the intention is single player story with little to no interest in the multiplayer then that makes absolute sense and the best value.
@Uncharted2007 you never own any game. You get a license to play it, regardless if it’s physical or digital.
@Deadlyblack Same opinion here, I'll wait a few more years for a dirt cheap sale on the Komplete Edition.
@GADG3Tx87 Single player is the only reason I'd play the game, for me anyways.
@Casco A lot of people really don't understand semantics. You buy a physical object, you own the object itself, not the data within. That's quite clear. Everyone should move on.
