Petrolheads, prepare yourselves! In case you aren't aware, EA Sports and Codemasters currently hold the rights to produce officially licensed World Rally Championship games, taking over from Nacon and KT Racing. The first game in this new contract will be released this year. Given Codemasters' excellent DiRT Rally series, we expect this official game to be a good one, and it seems as though we'll find out very soon indeed.
Reliable gaming leaker billbil-kun took to Twitter a couple of days ago to highlight some details about WRC 23 — what the game is purportedly called. According to the tweet, the game is lining up for release on PS5 on 28th July 2023:
Given we're about to enter the summer season of game announcements, it'd make sense for EA to reveal WRC 23 very shortly, especially if that release date is true. The leaker also says the game will be available in standard or Champions editions, with the latter including a full five seasons of post-launch content.
On a related note, billbil-kun also revealed a whole bunch of icons for achievements/Trophies for the game back in March, which suggests the game really is very close to release. We last heard about this game back in September of last year, when it was reported that it'll allow you to build your own rally car.
Given the source of this rumour, we're inclined to believe it. Billbil-kun has proven to be pretty accurate, most recently when they leaked the name of Mortal Kombat 1 before the official announcement. Still, as with all these things, we can never be completely certain. Hopefully WRC 23 makes its official debut soon.

Hopefully they can add some Craig Breen content after his tragic death in a practice rally earlier this year. A huge loss to the sport.
I know it’s a WRC licensed game but I hope like the DiRT games it has some other modes and styles to race. Not just WRC stuff.
Can't wait. Especially since F1 23 seems like more copy-&-paste from previous years. I'm sure Codies has made good advancements since Dirt Rally 2.
@Stocksy It also has the junior leagues.
Well it's either gonna be good or microtransaction filled garbage
This will be intriguing because I thought the driving physics in WRC 10 were pretty good but the DiRT series is absolute garbage.
Since they haven't implemented it for F123, I'm doubtful they'll add PSVR2 support for this, but I can but dream as DIRT VR was great.
@Stocksy i hope the complete opposite. If they are going to add other disciplines of racing then drop the WRC in the title. They tried this in F1 by adding super cars and it was dreadful.
@Anke I felt the opposite - WRC felt floaty and vague while DR felt tight and responsive.
@Anke with a bit of tweeking i also loved the WRC series. The tracks were amazing too.
@SBan83 For me DIRT is great on gravel, while I prefer WRC for asphalt rallies
Looking forward to this, though I have a feeling that despite it being an official WRC game it won’t have all the rallies. Hope I’m wrong.
PSVR2 or no sale for me!
I’ll stick with WRC Generations (which I still haven’t played). Their goodbye title is so packed with content this new one will never ever top it.
I know it'll be good but ultimately underwhelming. Evolution rally games were always more gritty than Codies last series. Evolution are part of the Codies family now but after grid legends and F1 22...
I hope they don't add in a story mode like they did with F1. I find stuff like that absolutely pointless in a racing game. I know some people like it but it's not for me. Knowing EA they'll probably have their usual microtransactions in some form of pitstop pass like they did with F1. Only time will tell......
WRC generations is absolutely amazing and I play leagues and solo leagues every single day since launch. The handling model and challenge are just absolutely perfect. I always felt with Dirt Rally 1+2 that some cars and rallies are similar but the experience is so inconsistent with being able to even keep some of the cars in the right direction that if they want to be a mainstream rally game they need to work on accessibility as Dirt Rally is nowhere near accessible enough. The upgrades system in WRC generations is also way better than anything seen from Codemasters literally ever. I’m sad it’s changed devs as I’ve been enjoying all of the last 11 games under the previous license.
If they could add PSVR2 without making it a puke fest, like Dirt Rally on PSVR1, that would be welcomed:
What I really want from this series is for the co-driver’s voice to stutter as we go over bumps and rocky terrain. That feels so next gen to me.
Also, I’d like them to speak faster as needed. In WRC Generations, some of the cars were so fast, there was no way in hell the co-driver was getting the notes out fast enough. You literally had to know the track which totally defeats the purpose. I crashed so many times on the one event because he was speaking them as I was already in some of the turns.
Last, I’d like the team management to go away. It’s nice I can largely ignore it in the previous ones but I just want it to go away altogether.
Anyway, this is going to be one announcement I’m hyped for (along with SH2, MGS, and hopefully some Castlevania!)
@Darude84 Generations is packed with content but worse than WRC10.
You need to tune all the setups to even get the driving bearable. Not to mention the acceleration bug & crazy oversteer when using the handbrake.
FFB somehow went backwards as well.
@Mr_B021 True, DR's asphalt physics are comically drifty.
