Well, we suppose this was inevitable, wasn’t it? PS Studios and Kojima Productions have announced a documentary film named Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, which promises to take you “on a journey into the creative mind of the most iconic video game creator in the world”. The film appears to revolve around the establishment of Kojima’s own independent studio, and the creation of Death Stranding.
In the trailer, there are interviews with some of the cast members from the aforementioned game, including Guillermo del Toro. We also see lots of luxurious, slow-motion shots of Kojima himself – as well as behind-the-scenes footage from inside Kojima Productions. There’s no release date attached to the film, but the trailer notes it’s “coming soon”.
“Widely regarded as the first auteur of video games, this visually captivating documentary gives a rare insight into Hideo Kojima's creative process as he launches his own independent studio,” the blurb reads. “Featuring contributions from visionary artists such as Guillermo del Toro, Nicholas Winding Refn, Grimes, George Miller, Norman Reedus, Woodkid, Chvrches, and many others, this thoughtful film explores the power and potential of video games as an art form through the work of an influential talent revered by millions worldwide.”

Is this a PlayStation productions documentary?
I want to see this!! i'm a fan of Kojima for years!!
@Americansamurai1 It's not!
I would like to see Sony acquire Kojima productions.
I hope that picture is the thumbnail for the documentary
Kojima Productions making a documentary about Kojima himself. This man’s ego has no limits.
Even if it's a lot of nauseating hagiography, I'll still watch it for those juicy BTS Death Stranding details.
Norman Reedus will be there somewhere for sure. Maybe even naked
I wonder if Sony would give this a theatrical release or just dump it on streaming... Hoping that this at least gets a limited release from Sony Pictures Classics.
Excellent news, I've always hoped for a Japanese remake of The Office
If this is in theaters, I can’t wait to preorder my tickets!
What I admire most about Kojima is his humility.
@NEStalgia
For me, it's his cautious approach to design.
I'm here for this. I've been a Hideo Kojima fan most of my life. Ever since playing MGS, I haven't been the same person. He's affected me, probably, more than any other artist/creator in the world.
@NEStalgia For me, it's the part where he's awesome and he knows it.
@SplooshDmg He reminds me of an older Geoff Keighley.
Looking forward to see what he's doing with Xbox
@NEStalgia I mean, I get that you aren't a fan, but that was just rude.
LOL But everybody loves Geoff! Especially Geoff! And Hideo. But not as much as Hideo loves Hideo. Or Geoff loves Geoff.
I never got hideo kojima's high acclaim.....sure I enjoyed the metal gear series but I always thought his praise and status was over rated with me thinking why is everyone treating Kojima like some sort of God in the gaming scene
@Heckteck 100% agree. I always think of the totally delusional, arrogant, disingenuous game developer celeb in the movie Grandma's Boy when I think of Kojima and his hubris.
"In an amazing display of flexibility, man circle jerks himself"
For all the hate the guy is a genius. Loved his podcast even if, like his games, there were rubbish bits. The good stuff was great and a real insight into his mind. Mad how much he does outside games I didn't know about.
@Heckteck Did you play his games in the 80s and 90s? They were so far ahead of their time and just doing things no other games were doing. Metal Gear, Snatcher etc.
Yes there's some BS you have to put up with in his games but he still innovates more consistently than any other AAA director. In an industry that is far too built on copying and steady iteration that is gold dust.
Very cool! Would love to watch this. I know Kojima is definitely a “love him or hate him” kind of game director, but I am firmly in the camp of “love him”!
Excited to see this! 🤩
Those eyes look curiously the right way up.
Directed by Hideo Kojima, starring Hideo Kojima, produced by Hideo Kojima, executive produced by Hideo Kojima, cinematography by Hideo Kojima, casting by Hideo Kojima, key grip Hideo Kojima....
I've never known anyone to be so far up their own ass like Hideo Kojima.
@Moochy Then you clearly don't know him.
@AdamNovice you're right.. if only he would produce a documentary about himself, maybe then I could get to know him.
@themightyant eeh I remember playing them way back in the day when they came out when I was a kid didn't think much of it then and didn't think much of it as an adult either
@Heckteck Fair enough, we all like different things.
@Moochy If you think he's that egotistical then you haven't really been paying attention to his career.
@AdamNovice name me three other game developers of the top of your head that:
a) plaster their name over everything they co-created alongside 100s of other colleagues
b) have a studio named after themselves
c) have - or are planning to - produce a documentary about themselves
I like most of his work.. I'm just not blind to his narcissism as all. And judging from some of the other comments, neither are other people, so feel free to reply to them too.
