The superb 16-bit era beat-‘em-up tribute TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is back for another bite of action this year, with the announcement of the Dimension Shellshock expansion. Due out later this year, the add-on will feature a veritable smorgasbord of extras, including a new character – Usagi Yojimbo, the steely rabbit samurai – as well as new game modes, character colours, and much more.

Outside of the trailer, specific details are being kept underwraps for the time being, but a press release points out this: “The DLC includes a new game mode, fresh original music from the soundtrack’s composer Tee Lopes, and alternative colour schemes for playable fighters, all of which will be detailed at a later time.”

In addition, there’ll be a free update later this year released for all players, which will include an “additional range of colour palette options separate from those included within Dimension Shellshock”. This, according to publisher DotEmu and developer Tribute Games, is all due to the “totally tubular passion of fans and the radical reception” of the release.

It’s worth noting that TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge already received a pretty meaningful free update late last year, which effectively enables you to customise the experience by tweaking key gameplay settings. Obviously the ongoing support for this title has only increased our enjoyment of it – and we were already pretty praiseworthy in our original review.
