The superb 16-bit era beat-‘em-up tribute TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is back for another bite of action this year, with the announcement of the Dimension Shellshock expansion. Due out later this year, the add-on will feature a veritable smorgasbord of extras, including a new character – Usagi Yojimbo, the steely rabbit samurai – as well as new game modes, character colours, and much more.
Outside of the trailer, specific details are being kept underwraps for the time being, but a press release points out this: “The DLC includes a new game mode, fresh original music from the soundtrack’s composer Tee Lopes, and alternative colour schemes for playable fighters, all of which will be detailed at a later time.”
In addition, there’ll be a free update later this year released for all players, which will include an “additional range of colour palette options separate from those included within Dimension Shellshock”. This, according to publisher DotEmu and developer Tribute Games, is all due to the “totally tubular passion of fans and the radical reception” of the release.
It’s worth noting that TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge already received a pretty meaningful free update late last year, which effectively enables you to customise the experience by tweaking key gameplay settings. Obviously the ongoing support for this title has only increased our enjoyment of it – and we were already pretty praiseworthy in our original review.

This will be a day one purchase for me!
Usagi is a favorite character so I'm really happy about this. Day one for me.
Cowa-freakin’-bunga, dudes! This is going to be awesome!
Id love for them to just make a sequel but thats because i loved shredders revenge so much and im eager for new levels etc. Such a quality game.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I think we get one for sure. This will have to hold you over!! Lol
Awesome surprise! Definitely getting this right away when it’s ready
Been eagerly anticipating Usagi. This is great news!
As much as I had fun with Shredders Revenge, I actually preferred SoR4 (maybe as it came first).
Keen to see how the DLC drops as might be tempted.
Are we back in 2000? All this arcade-style games are having a true Renaissance and I personally love it.
Say “new characterS”, so I wonder who else besides Usagi is yet to be revealed…
Yes, lets go! Usagi!!🔥🔥🔥
Glad the game is still getting supported.
Ok, now its time to get my hands on it!!! Great addition
I just wanted to write "Radical" but wasn't allowed by the Website...
@Ear_wiG Mondo Gecko comes to mind as a possibility as a character addition. They could also add Mona Lisa. While unlikely, I think the comic version of Alopex would be welcome.
@Uncharted2007 You really know your Turtles!
@Ear_wiG Yep. I'm an OG fan. I don't care about most of Marvel or DC characters, but Ninja Turtles... those guys have always been at the top for me with a few laughably bad renditions.
Another idea, given the bird character in the screenshot above, they could add Ace, a duck pilot with a bomber jacket.
I still need to play TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, but very happy to see the game is still being supported with new content!
This is amazing news, I hope they release a new physical version with the new dlc included.
@Uncharted2007 That’s awesome! I grew up loving the games, cartoon, and especially the movies, but never got into the comics. They’re such a unique take on super heroes. Enjoy the DLC!
