EA is taking a slightly different marketing tactic with Skate, as it’s been quite open about the game ever since it started development. We’ve regularly been seeing early footage, and this pre-pre-alpha gameplay from a recent insider test is the best yet. While the title’s clearly still years away, we’re beginning to see the bones of a sandbox take shape.
If you missed the previous announcement, the new entry in the popular extreme sports series will be free-to-play, and will have a constantly evolving online open world. The idea is that you’ll be able to place ramps and other objects in the world collaboratively, and then use them as jumping off points to perform tricks.
Despite the free-to-play format, EA says it’ll only sell cosmetics, and there’ll be no “pay-to-win” here. You can actually sign up to participate in the ongoing insider tests if you’d like to, but it’s currently only available on PC as development is still very early. We’re sure, however, access will eventually expand to consoles as the game gets closer to release, and we’ll update you when we know more.

Can't wait to try it out but we need the original games on ps+ or EA play already!
Free to play gives me the ick but if the physics engine is right then I’ll be happy as long as I can just turn off everyone else in the world. I‘ve spent loads of hours in Skate 3 just messing about.
fee 2 pay? oh boy.... 🙄🙄
I loved the Skate series but F2P just rubs me the wrong way. How long until they turn the servers off? 3 months?
Will I be able to play single player without random players floating all about the city
Will there be a decent career mode?
This is the type of game I’d love to play on a portable & just roam around the streets.
Still looking forward to trying it. I just think they may have imposed limits on the game itself & cursed the longevity by making it F2P.
I like that they're being very transparent about it, but I really wish it wasn't FtP...
EA, trying especially hard to reclaim their spot as worst company in the US.
I don’t know why EA didn’t just get a development team to make a Skate 3 HD Remaster. It’s probably what most people want anyway.
The Tony Hawk 1 + 2 remake proved that it could be a viable product. Building an entire new game, then ruining it by shoving a free-to-play economy into it is not going to turn out well.
EA Sports games are already lousy with microtransactions as they are — and those are full-priced games. I shudder to think how bad it’s going to be when the microtransactions are the only method of monetization.
I have been looking forward to a new skate game for years but the words free-to-play scare me specially by Ea we all know free-to-pay games have heavy transactions.
