Jujutsu Kaisen, the incredibly popular anime and manga property, is finally getting a video game adaptation on PlayStation. That's good!
Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash is a two-on-two arena fighter. That's bad! Well, maybe not bad, depending on who you ask, but anime fans must be sick and tired of this happening to their favourite franchises.
You never know, though — Cursed Clash might end up being a banger. The reveal trailer shows off just a few characters, and confirms that it's running on Unreal Engine. It certainly looks the part, and it's apparently coming to PS5 and PS4 "soon".

Fine with me, I’m super excited for it! A 3D arena fighter isn’t all that original at this point, that’s true, but it’s LEAGUES better than some low budget mobile game. Let’s go JJK!!!
Yea that trailer didn't really look good to me. It's not that I have an issue with these games being arena fighters, but it's that they just don't look exciting. Who's even developing it?
Good series, but yet another arena anime fighter that I’m gonna have to pass on on.
I honestly just hope it's made by a competent developer. Don't want another mediocre 2v2 arena fighter like knights of britannia lol
Yay another 2v2 arena fighting game because we definitely dont have hundreds of those! Makes me worry that the rumored bleach game is going to be a garbage arena fighter...
I thought this sort of fighter was a bit old hat when I played J-Stars and that was like the third game I bought on PS4. Anyway give School Rumble a musou game.
Lots of cool stuff they could do with these anime but they always turn them into way cheaper looking, less fun to play Naruto storm games instead
Someone take away literally every anime IP away from Namco except for Dragon Ball FighterZ
@Pepsiman_100 I believe the dev that did the My Hero Academia fighting games is doing this one (the My Hero One's Justice games).
All I want is a Shonen Jump collab turn base game. Or anything better than Jump Force. I love JJK so I may try this on heavy discount though. Can’t wait for the next manga chapter soon 😎😎
Ahh yes, another instant classic anime arena brawler, never saw this one coming.... >_>
Man…of course it’s an arena fighter. Most generic genre when it comes to making an anime to a game. Imagine if this was a 2v2 2.5D fighting game or a RPG then this will be exciting but nope, we have this. Going to probably play very similar to all the other arena fighters Bamco published with just a different skin on it. Missed opportunity to make a cool game.
Bandai Namco are creatively bankrupt when it comes to the majority of their Anime adaptations.
Endless fighting games and I can’t even begin to say how bored I am of the arena fighter.
I’d like to see a beat em up/action adventure instead.
Also why on earth haven’t they done a smash bros clone for Shonen Jump? If done properly (and hey they helped make Smash Bros) it’d do really well I’m sure.
Yes I’m aware of the DS game.
Ultimate Ninja Storm, One's Justice and Hinokami Chronicles are all great. Just because One Punch Man and Jump Force are bad, doesn't mean that this will be.
It's far less generic than the vast majority of multiplayer shooters. Reductionism at its finest.
Man, being a Bleach fan must suck. How can JJK in its first season get a mainstream game before Bleach, which is in its final season?
Bandai are frauds.
Ayyy at least it's not a 2d fighter, dodged a bullet there.
@Cherip-the-Ripper Yeah you're right, at least it wasn't a better game. Totally dodged a bullet there, for Bandai finance and actual effort...
@rachetmarvel agree to disagree, bandai are frauds though that's facts
A Bleach fighter made by CyberConnect2 would be stellar. I'd take another Pirate Warriors style for Bleach at this point. However, I'm stoked for a Jujutsu Kaisen game. Big fan.
@rachetmarvel Bleach has gotten plenty of games like this, just no recent ones. The DS, PS2, Wii, and even a bit of PS3 are full of them.
@Jaz007 None of them were mainstream.
Cool.word up son
Sorry guys, I think I jinxed it with my last comment 😂
Jokes aside, at this point I've just gotta assume it's easier to do these type of games and make money off of existing anime before they're irrelevant. For arena fighters, you create arenas based off of anime locations, copy/paste the story from said anime, re-write the dialogue from said anime, program the models and animations, map their moves to buttons on each model, write the rules for various fight modes, and then the player does the rest.
When you think of One Piece Odyssey, for example, in addition to all of this, it requires thinking of, writing for and programming multiple skills for level ups, enemy encounters, resistances and weaknesses, the open overworld, puzzles for the overworld, various RPG-style items, a brand new story, side quests, rewards and NPCs, a ton of cinematics to go with the new story, etc.
@nessisonett Brilliant. I would pre-order the hell out of a game where you beat up hundreds of delinquents as Harima 🤣
@rachetmarvel How is this more mainstream? It’s another arena fighter. It’s not going to affect any stream that isn’t a side stream niche.
@Brydontk Anime games need to be appealing without the source material being required.
@Jaz007 Yeah I agree. I don't care for 3d arena fighters
Anime Devs make literally ANYTHING that's not some soft of Fighting game challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
Ninja Storm with JJK skins? Pass An action adventure horror through their city would have been much better. They built a whole Konoha village you could explore and they can't do that for this?
There are certainly exceptions, but it does seem like so many games based on anime are fighting games, or at least heavily favoring that genre. It does make sense that fans would want to pit their favorite overpowered MC against each other. Maybe anime fighting games are cheaper to make than an RPG?
