Due to release in just over a week on PS5, Blasphemous 2 appears to be a pretty straightforward sequel to the already fantastic Blasphemous — and we're perfectly okay with that. The 2D action adventure just got 16 minutes of raw gameplay footage (thanks IGN), and it looks damn good.
We've always loved the first game's art direction, and that clear attention to detail lives on in this follow-up. Based on what we know, Blasphemous 2 will be building on its predecessor with additional gameplay depth — including being able to choose between different weapon types — and it'll apparently be a bigger game in terms of scope. The bottom line here is that we'd be incredibly surprised if this anticipated sequel missed the mark.

Never heard of it but consider me intrigued!
I loved the first game, and this one looks absolutely fantastic. I don’t even care about reviews - this is a day one purchase for me.
Blasphemous is legitimately tied for my favorite game of the PS4 generation alongside Bloodborne.
Take that however you will
Yes please. The first is amazing, the specifically Spanish Catholic iconography is inspired as a Metroidvania, the very nature of penance ties into gameplay. One of the very best modern offerings in a genre pretty stacked by now.
It looks fantastic I never understand why people call this ugly.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah defintely not ugly. I moderately enjoyed the first one, but it just feels like the genre is way too oversaturated with what is essentially the exact same gameplay loop. It shows more blatantly with the retro 2d design restrictions as well.
Everyone is trying to cash in on these retro inspired 2d metroidvania/rogue lite/likes/procedurally generated games. Yet when you really take a step back, there is VERY little that differentiates any of them aside from the art style differences.
I loved the first game, and I have this preordered on Switch, but man, it just looks like more of the same, especially the environments. New weapons and items/abilities aside, I hope that there’re some serious surprises in store for us further in…
@KundaliniRising333 But I did buy a lot of 2D games I like them. Im sick of the free to play, liveservice, broken on release, before day one DLC. 🙄
@KaijuKaiser You always have a few people that call 2D games ugly because it's 2D.
