Update: As well all the UK deals featured in our article below, several US retailers have now gone live with similarly great PlayStation offers. You'll find discounted PS5 consoles, DualSense controllers, games and more at the stores listed below. Here are direct links to the sales:
Original Article [31st July, 2023]: Black Friday may well be a few months away, but thanks to these cracking PlayStation 5 and PS4 deals live in the UK at the moment, you'd be forgiven for thinking we're right in the middle of the holiday season.
As part of the Sony Summer Sale, we're seeing plenty of great deals on products at a variety of retailers, especially when it comes to hardware. The official PlayStation Direct store has slashed the price of the standard PS5 console by a very welcome £75, and it's even cheaper at retailers like Currys and Argos who've knocked a whopping £80 off the RRP.
You can also currently pick up DualSense controllers for just £39.99, down from their usual retail price of £59.99/£64.99.
These prices match what we've previously seen during major sales events like Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day, and in some cases actually beat those prices. If there's anything you're after, now might be the time to take the plunge:

No question that they are doing fire sales on the PS5. For what reason remains a mystery.
Trying to move the old model for the new one. We might actually get announcement this month judging by how aggressive Sony has been
@Cashews new price point probably?
@Cashews So this might be an extreme reach, but I can't help but wonder if Sony is trying to further saturate the console market before ActBliz deal is finalized. If you eat up the market share, they can possibly offset for this and the next generation by establishing Sony ecosystems
@Americansamurai1 Yep. The PS5 is halfway through it's lifespan going by the PS4. Crazy huh?
@CallMeDuraSouka that seems like the logical path. The console sales are never going to approach Switch sales - the software sales are in the toilet. They need to move more software units so they need to give away the razor to sell the blades so to speak.
@LifeGirl yeah it's pretty crazy how fast time has gone.
@theMEGAniggle you'd think but they just raised the price. Seems odd. I guess the price point people were comfortable with was the old price. Christmas season will be an interesting one for the big three.
Sigh, no deal on the charging station for VR2.
@Cashews Seems they're clearing stock for the strongly rumoured revision.
N.i.c.e. the more ps5 is selling the better.and i see some ps4 games also.and ps5 controller and ps5 console is already popular.and thats a lot of ps5 games available.and coming this year.word up son
@get2sammyb maybe. But to me, just me, it seems like a bad strategy when you are just beginning to pick up some momentum.
How does that make the average customer feel? The customer that bought a new PS5 in 2023 after 2 years of not being able to get a retail priced unit? Then they release a "all new all better PS5 2.0!
It disenfranchises the average customer. It ruins goodwill.
The people on this site are not in any way the average customer. They are a tiny fraction of overall market and it's sentiment.
How long were they making PS3 games into the PS4 era? Seems like we’re still seeing PS4 games coming out next year.
@Cashews It's questionable whether the rumoured replacement model is actually better. On the one hand, you can replace the disc drive if the one that comes with the console fails but on the other hand Sony can artificially limit stock of the disc drive such that you're forced into a digital only ecosystem.
Your argument is stronger for the rumoured 2024 PS5 Pro though.
@LifeGirl PS4 life (from its release to release of PS5) = 7 years, PS5 (from release to date) = 2.5 years
2.5/7 = 35%, and not 50%.
This time next year it will be 50%
But if your point is console cycles are now ridiculously long compared to the 5 year cycles we used to have, then yes I agree.
I really don't think this is the right time for a PS5 pro or whatever. This generation for both Xbox and PS has started off slow and we've barely had any true next-gen exclusive games. To release a new, updated console when the current one hasn't exactly been given a chance to shine is hardly a good thing.
Clearing out the warehouses ready for some new PS5s and detachable disc drives.
Does feel somewhat gutting as someone who got a PS5 in May with an extra black controller from Currys for £530 only to see the same bundle 2 months later from the same retailer going for £440.
Most disappointing is the PS5 super shiny titles which still haven't turned up! PS4 still seems to be getting all the big releases (bar BG3 and Spiderman 2) and still has more to show up next year!
@lightningbolt79 I don't know why people keep saying this, surely it's up to the individual if they want an even faster machine? I for one would welcome a Pro and preorder the second it became available.
@Shwing yes, it is still up to the individual, but that doesn't mean others can't have an opinion on whether it is a good decision to release it or not.
@lightningbolt79 Just as a matter of interest, why do you consider it a bad decision to release one (genuinely interested). How would launching one affect anyone with a standard PS5... It'll still play all the games just as before.
@Shwing Just in general, it seems PS at the moment is incredibly good at releasing expensive hardware, but less good at announcing games in the near future. Even then, many of the games releasing now will be held back by being on PS4.
Why can't they focus on making games that make full use of the expensive PS5 instead than bringing out yet another expensive console that will probably have benefits that most won't exactly benefit from? The PS4 when released was under-powered in many ways so it made sense to release the pro. The PS5 definitely isn't, yet it seems Sony doesn't actually want to make use of its features.
And yes, I know the hardware team isn't the same as those making games, but it is yet another thing that developers have to consider when making games, and yet another expense that distracts PS from focusing on its games.
I did laugh seeing the price drop on the dualsense shortly after dropping 70 on the spiderman special edition. It better look good in person if i am paying an extra 30 pounds for a white spider on a touch pad
@Cashews I don't think it will irritate anyone really. It's going to be largely identical, the main change will be to manufacturing.
The only people I could potentially see irritated are those who got a Digital Edition if the detachable disc drive can't be used with the original model. But even that seems unlikely to me.
@Rob_230 Me too, it felt like I was getting personally trolled! Still, the Spidey edition does look good.
@Marquez 🤝 haha that's how i felt too. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives 😃
@lightningbolt79 I know where you're coming from in relation to the want for more games (the more the merrier) - but as you say the hardware / software teams are completely separate.
Having a Pro version of the PS5 won't impact software development by much, as was seen with the PS4/PS4 Pro. The Pro normally just had a higher resolution and more stable framerate - this is something that would happen automatically (without much dev input) by nature of the machine being beefier. Another way to look at it is a PS5 Pro could actually extend / bring increased focus to the PS5 standard itself. Why? If there was no Pro then Sony would just be working towards the PS6 (which they obvs are anyway) thus making all devs wonder how long a life the PS5 will have. If you introduce a Pro, then the PS5 'line' of consoles would be extended to a later date, thus presenting the devs with additional development time & confidence that the 5 will be around longer. Heck, you could even say the Pro might help devs with the eventual transition to the PS6, thus improving software quality & quantity.
Finally, bear in mind that the PC is now, more than ever, a competing platform for us gamers time & money. This is one reason that Sony obvs got into releasing games for the PC, but as is always the way, PCs will continue to evolve at a pace that is hard to keep up with - therefore a Pro can have the effect of keeping potential platform hoppers to a minimum.
@get2sammyb Seems a lot of people still don’t believe that new digital model is coming later this year no matter how many times you write about it. Everyone is still talking about a Pro but the PS5 needs a slim more. Guessing Sony announced this now after all of those Spider-Man special edition bundles & controllers sold out. (Though I am always cynical that way by nature.)
@Rob_230 Not to mention all of the people who dropped $600 (or whatever the UK equivalent is) on a $500 console and a $70 game. Though it’s possible the bundle was already cheaper in the UK, I can’t recall.
@Cashews it’s about making manufacturing cheaper and easier by just having one model. Which would hopefully bring about a lower price.
The sales right now? As mentioned the ABK deal, also Microsoft are raising prices left right and centre, so if you can drop yours for a while it looks great compared to the competition (the reason MS didn’t increase the price of series consoles)
@rjejr yes really good point!
@Cashews The timing just feels weird, perfect analogy!
Absolutely nothing wrong with Sony offering their latest console and controllers on discounts. Struggling to see how any of this is a bad thing, regardless of a new console refresh or not. Just grabbed the Starlight Blue DualSense in my local Argos store for £42. So pleased with the deal and buzzing my manboobies off
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I don't disagree. After the PS disaster showcase MS finally picked up some positive momentum. Then they decided the best course would be the crap all over their customers for the next three months.
Sometimes I really wonder if MS is playing a joke on their customers and themselves. They don't seem to want to win.
@Cashews I know someone who paid £700 for their PS5 3 weeks after launch due to scalpers. Imagine how they feel lmao
They raised the price again? Been a bit busy but last I remember the price went up months ago and now there's this price drop for the sale. Am I missing something?
Don't know why people say PS5 has no games. I have 93 games physically just for it, and 300 for PS4. True many cross-gen, but can never complain if you get better performance on the new machine. Have a feeling this year will be the last for cross-gen games, at least AAA ones. There is no reason indies can't come to PS4 when they have Switch versions.
@theMEGAniggle well hopefully they feel stupid. They should feel stupid. Paying more for something that has no collectible value is not only stupid - it is validating the scalpers.
No I was talking about the price increase late last year wasn't it?
@Cashews honestly, I made sure they felt stupid. They were desperate and now they realised how useless it was to get it that early at THAT price because most of what we've gotten is available on PS4
Yeah so the price went up LY, now its looking like a good deal because they've dropped it back to the OG price? Got to love business lmao
I just picked up a blue dualsence to replace my second controller that broke this time playing Ragnarok a couple weeks ago. Second time the trigger springs have snapped. First controller was just RT but this last controller both RT and LT are broken and floppy. Not happy they break so easy, two controllers already since launch, but happier with the price I guess.
@theMEGAniggle yeah that's why I really don't get these increasingly common sales on the hardware. They just raised the price but now they are discounting it on a fairly regular basis.
I think it will lead up to a busy fall with lots of news from all the makers.
@Cashews I think its simple really, those who haven't got it will get it at any price drop and those who want to get it cheaper will wait for another price drop. Therefore, more price drops means more people will see now as a good time to buy it
It'll happen for Black Friday and Christmas and any sale really, as long as they 'drop' the price.
Sales coming after a price increase always reminds me of a comics in which 1$ lemonade doesn't sell, but it sells instantly when the sign says: "80% off! Was 5$, now 1$ only"
@Rhaoulos:
Launch price was 449 quids, with the price increase it went to 480 and now is 399, still, cheaper than launch price.
Some amazing deals here. I'm just gutted I already have most things I would want.
On a separate note, has anyone here ever tried to get a digital refund from Sony?
I just tried to and their customer service is absolutely shocking. They really need to work harder.
Like we’d ever see a $40 ps5 controller in the US. Greedy gits.
Looks like they're making room for the new model, trying move the rest of the old model. We might actually get another showcase this year, with the new model plus the streaming handheld they're going to have to show them soon.
@Bunchesopuppies I think I saw Sam's club selling the black controller for under 40 yesterday.
@Americansamurai1 if they aren't - and then they raise the price back after a few weeks running this sale - they are going to have a heck of a time trying to sell product at it's original price. They may be training people to wait.
interesting Fall incoming!!
@Cashews very true, if we do get a showcase here's hoping it's better than the last.
Only in this place could a manufacturer offer seriously good discounts and people find a way to be offended at it. Astonishing - but given I read these sections often, not at all surprising.
This isn’t just happening in video games, all forms of entertainment and luxury items are dropping in price- Holidays, Guitars, High End Clothes, Jewellery, Toys and Electronics.
Companies know interest rates going up mean the average shopper has less disposable income, and are cutting their cloth appropriately. This will bring down inflation.
