Lollipop Chainsaw’s previously announced remake will pack up its disembodied head until 2024, as developer Dragami Games seeks to improve the overall quality of the release. While platforms have yet to be officially confirmed, it’s safe to assume the game – now named Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP – will sprinkle some stardust on PS5 when it eventually arrives.
“Although development of RePOP was carried out with the intention of a 2023 release, our commitment to providing the best possible quality experience to our players led us to making the hard decision to extend the development period in order to ensure this,” a studio spokesperson pointed out in a press release.
Lollipop Chainsaw first released in 2012 on the PS3, where it attracted considerable attention for its zany premise and saccharine sweet presentation. Even though the game had its fair share of flaws, it sold extremely well, and we’re surprised it’s taken over a decade to get it off the ground again. Hopefully this remake is worth the ten year wait!

Has this beeb confirmed for a release on PlayStation?
Remember it being a good crack, can't say I've ever fancied a remake though? Seemed like very much a product of its time. Will keep an eye on it nonetheless.
I am excited to play it again. Hopefully it turns out well.
I'm down to buy it even if it'll be awkward to play for me, never cared to play it when it released back on the 360. Just glad to hear it isn't getting censored.
I've been interested in playing Lollipop Chainsaw, so hoping they don't mess up this remake.
I loved this game when it was on 360. Hopefully the combat gets sped up slightly.
Too bad its best feature the soundtrack won't be included. I did really like the game but don't know if i will bother with this version.
I hope this turns out good. I loved the original. Such a wacky weird game in all the best ways!
Its a fun game but for it's not so special that it needs a remake.
Never got to play this one, kind of curious about it.
One of the best B-Movie-style games of all time! Can't wait.
Nobody who really matters in terms of working on the first game is involved with this and it'll probably be toned down to all heck because 'modern audiences.' It's an easy pass but very annoying to see studios wasting time on remakes/remasters. 2021 was a great year for this gen since then I feel like it's really slowed down. If it wasn't for Insomniac, not sure I'd have gotten a PS5 yet.
@Flaming_Kaiser
Exactly. While it does get tiresome seeing so many remakes/remasters, it's at least understandable in the case of RE 2, RE 4, Metroid Prime 1, Dead Space... These are some of the best games of all-time, Lollipop Chainsaw is cool but it doesn't even stand out in its own genre and given the current climate, which is even more hypersensitive than the early-mid 90s were, the game can't even be itself. Seems a waste but whatever, I guess. In every entertainment industry right now, retreading old ground seems to be the 'in' thing.
@DennisReynolds the soundtrack isn't included?!?! Akira Yamaoka's score was one of the best things about the original. I hope you're mistaken as otherwise that's a huge disappointment.
@pip_muzz I'm on about the licenced music.
@Gamer83 Why are people thinking the game will be toned down? There's nothing really to tone down considering how tame the game is. BG3 has just released with full nudity and human/bear sex so i think Lollipop will be fine.
@DennisReynolds no "hey Mickey" when in power up mode? That is a shame
@DennisReynolds
Baldur's Gate 3 is also a game that is part of a hugely popular IP and it's a game from a Western studio. Larian Studios was always going to be allowed to do whatever it wants. It seems there's a much stricter policy against Japanese devs, at least on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
@DennisReynolds There is even a trophy for the most dirty thing you can do. 🤣
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm pretty sure Nier Automata has a similar one.
@Gamer83 Lollipop has no nudity or sex though and its jokes are pretty tame. I really don't know what you think could be toned down or removed.
@DennisReynolds
Bear sex is fine. See too far up a fictional girl’s skirt though and it’s unacceptable these days. “I swear I did it by mistake” will likely not be a trophy here, and I fully expect those disgusting bloomer undershorts to be present as they are in all games these days.
@DennisReynolds
Juliet's outfit is going to have to be changed in some way and for sure the DLC costumes from the first game, which should be included with the remake, will not be. Other than that, I also expect the violence to be a bit more tame. Even Gears of War has lost its edge in that regard in recent entries. Seems to be another industry wide trend with only Mortal Kombat escaping it.
@Gamer83 The game was never super violent to begin with, Cyberpunk is way more violent and sexual and that hasn't been toned down. Resident Evil 4 Remake was also more violent then the original with RE Village containing some pretty horrific imagery. Bayonetta 3 last year didn't see any toning down. Tower of Fantasy just launched with revealing outfit and boob physics. The Last of Us Part 2 was extremely violent and contained a very heavy sex scene where you see Abby's breasts. Dead Space Remake was more violent then the original. The new Alien game is about as violent as you would expect from the franchise. Saints Row last year let's you go fully topless as a woman without any censoring a first for the series. Final Fantasy 16 had more sexual imagery then the series usually see's. Dead Island 2 has a full on gore system and Dying Light 2 saw a big update this year that added more gore.
Sex and violence hasn't been toned and if anything its increased.
@DennisReynolds
Western games get a pass, it seems, for how they depict characters and situations. Bayonetta 3 is on a Nintendo system, if Lollipop Chainsaw was going to that machine I'd be a lot less concerned about it getting toned down. Sony and MS both have been pretty strict on niche Japanese games in recent years.
This is the only game I've ever played which made me feel embarrassed to be a gamer 🤣🤣
@Gamer83 Tower of Fantasy literally has boob physics and let's you increase the size of said boobs.
@DennisReynolds I'm behind so much that i still have that game in seal so disappointing.
