Update: Well, that didn't take long. Red Dead Redemption's somewhat controversial PS4 port is now the top ranking title on the PS Store, as once again spotted by Rockstar ultra-fan @videotechx on Twitter. Despite the high $50 asking price, expect this one to sell really well.

Original Article: The recently announced PS4 port of Red Dead Redemption is currently ranked second on the PlayStation Store's 'trending' page in Europe (as spotted by @videotechx). From what we understand, this means that the game's page is getting an awful lot of attention, with only EA Sports FC 24 proving to be more popular. In the US, Red Dead Redemption is third to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto V at the time of writing.
Just to recap, a lot of criticism has been slung in the direction of this Red Dead Redemption re-release. Based on Rockstar's official announcement, this new PS4 version doesn't feature any enhancements outside of additional language support — and it's priced at $50. With that in mind, some may find it a bit disheartening to see it picking up so much steam on the PS Store.
But it's worth noting that — as far as we know — the trending page is not based on sales or pre-orders. You can't actually pre-order Red Dead Redemption yet, after all (although you can add it to your wishlist).
Still, the port's proving to be popular. Here in the hardcore space, the re-release has been battered, but it's fair to assume that more casual gamers will be leaping at the chance to play Red Dead Redemption on current consoles. Don't be shocked if you do see the PS4 port riding high on the PS Store's best-sellers list in the weeks to come.
How well do you think Red Dead Redemption will do on PS4? Is this trending list a sign of things to come? Saddle up in the comments section below.

Aint broke, dont fix it
This is why the medium is getting worse and worse.
Fools and their money…
It will unfortunately sell millions, that's just how it is, Rockstar knows that.
Guess all the online media outrage didn't harm it. Guess any publicity is good publicity.
'A lot of attention' - for all the wrong reasons.
Still, no publicity and all that...
A lot of people are hypocrites. A lot of people thats criticize it are a lot of those people who will buy it🤔.doesnt surprise me.and if red dead redemption is a good port a lot of people will buy it.word up son
“it's fair to assume that more casual gamers will be leaping at the chance to play Red Dead Redemption on current consoles”
I do wonder about this tbh. I would have thought the casual crowd would almost be more turned off by dated visuals than the hardcore, since they tend to be associated with COD, FIFA, AC etc. (i.e. high-end blockbuster stuff)
It will sell well because its a great game and its the only way to play it on PS4 and Switch. If you lack an Xbox there's a good chance you haven't played it since the PS3 days so i can understand why some would be tempted to get it even at that price.
I'm not sure casuals will want to play an older port like that. I imagine it might get more attention than sales. I also hope for that.
I'll wait for a sale
Even though we criticise it here, we're part of a very niche group. Most people that play games are not invested in knowing the state they're in and the quality of the port, they see the title, recognise it and buy it.
Maybe people are just checking too see if they really are charging $50 for it, and are then flabbergasted when they find out it’s true 😂
Gaming gets sadder by the minute
Lmaooooo so people complained about it but have that “but I’m still gonna buy it anyways” mentality
Im still interested but just gonna wait on it a little. Also an abundance coming up so no rush
I did laugh at the trophies, for example "get 250 headshots in any game mode"
There is only one game mode.
Can’t wait to see how the many crashes, bugs and game ending mission bugs that this direct port gives. Don’t even get me started on the undead dlc.
How many will buy it expecting a game on the level of RDR2, see the graphics and be utterly disappointed.
Anyway, this has had me thinking, how much do you think they're going to charge for GTA VI? £30 more then a 13 year old game? I think we're about to see a £90 standard edition game here.
Meh. I also checked out the PS Store page but am not buying it for £40 or whatever
I'm sure it'll sell fine because it's still a great game but I don't think it'll do amazing at this price
I mean I checked it out so I can wishlist...doesn't mean I'm getting it day one.
This is exactly what I mean.. Rockstar dont even have to do anything other than rerelease and smack a high price tag on it, and people just hand over their money. Crazy.
this only proves the point on what Agent J in MIB said: “A person is smart people are dumb”
I’ll put it this way I can see people who never played it buying it . There is nothing wrong with not buying it or buying it , at the end of the day it’s all personal choice.
The more Rockstar gets away with, the more nervous I get for GTA VI. The online part of 6 is a near lock to be a live service dystopia, I'm just hoping they still have it in them make a great single player part free of gaming industry garbage.
@CaptD Undead DLC would be different from regular story mode
@ShogunRok Do we know when the game will be available for review outlets? I know there isn't a change is the overall specs, but I'm curious how it runs and if there are bugs. Still not buying it right away but interested in how the port functions. Thanks!
I checked the store page just to see if they maybe advertise some technical specs there. Aside from the standard "PS4 Pro enhanced" there is nothing, so it's seriously not going to be anything other than basic port from 7th gen.
A great game is still a great game whether it was made 10+ years ago or coming out this week.
Yes graphics have moved on, but game-play, story telling etc hasn't really progressed and the game isn't 'bad' looking today. The game-play loop, which everyone would agree is the MOST important part of a game, is extremely solid and why it won Game of the Year.
The fact is that the ONLY way to play this game on Playstation 4/5 or Nintendo Switch is to buy the game, those wanting a 'great' game will pay the money. I'd rather play this than Marathon, Helldivers2, FairGame$ or Foamstars for example despite them having more 'up to date' Graphics. Minecraft looks far 'worse' graphically but is the best selling game of all time so Game Play is 'most' important.
I would rather play something 'less' visually impressive with the focus on Game-play than a game that looks 'incredible' but has no depth, substance or enjoyable 'game-play'...
The other option is you try and find a PS3 (if you haven't got one) and play on dated hardware, buy a PC or buy an Xbox Series S/X to play the 'original' release at higher res and 'perfect' frame rates. $50 is the 'cheapest' option if you only have a Switch or PS4/5 to play the 'best' game of that year today with the Undead Nightmare DLC too...
@Bluetrain7 We haven't heard anything, unfortunately. Not sure if it's being provided to select media outlets, but yeah, nothing on our end. We will try to review it, though.
@ShogunRok Thank you for the reply. I figured they may wait to pass out codes until release day, but I would be very interested to read a PushSquare review whenever that happens. Thanks again!
I'm certain it will do well. Consumers don't value money anymore. They just spend spend spend spend.
@ShogunRok You could just repost the PS3 review from 2012.
Not surprising. I asked a couple of my younger friends the other day about the game, and they are super excited to get it. They didn’t care that it cost $50, or don’t come with modern enchantments. They’re just excited to finally play the game for the first time.
GTA Definitive Trilogy still sold over 10 million copies despite being ridiculed by the whole internet and even with Rockstar issuing an apology about it, so can't say I would be at all surprised if this one ended up selling well too.
Already played the prettied up version on One X years ago , so zero interest for a port that doesn't even run at 60fps. Maybe if it also came out on PC, just to see what people would do with that version.
Is that what you call a load of tosh
I suppose someone has to by it new physically then trade it in, so I can then buy it used later down the line. Remember buying a used copy physically ain't supporting this tosh port
I'm not buying it, dudes. Not the game, the interest in it. A more plausible explanation is that the publisher has a deal with the PS store.
Does the "trending" metric include people clicking through the link from every twitter post that's laughing at a $50 PS3 port? I'm sure a lot of traffic comes from that.
I got RDR1 and Undead Nightmare GOTY for £12.50 delivered the other day for my Series X.
I've also got RDR2 for Series X coming soon for £10 delivered as well.
Gumtree is great!
Will never buy another Rockstar game again.
This is the worst news I've heard all day. Can't wait to see them disrespect GTA4 in the same way.
I think maybe we all get caught up in this online world and assume lots of folks are there with us. Really though, those other folks just see Red Dead released and they go "Oh wow!" and click buy without even researching.
If I ever buy this, it'll be on sale. As someone who never played the game, I think $50 is somewhat fair but I won't buy it on principle just because more could have been done to this to make it a proper release on current-get hardware. This is the definition of lazy port. I think if it were cheaper, people wouldn't have been so harsh.
This is why Rockstar don't care about the vocal minority. People will complain and it will still sell like hotcakes at $50.
They have no reason to change because gamers have shown they will pay
You mean the multi billion dollar company that prints money and can focus group, and test and survey people knew what they were doing pricing something so high??
They know they are going to alienate a number of people at $50, but they know that the extra $ they're charging more then makes up for those people that will not buy because of the price.
I play it in my PS3 and it's not dated. Thing about this game was it was as good as any PS4 adventure just stuck on older console. Will I buy, probably not at 50, but I will at some point.
I am going to buy it too eventually but right now i have plenty to play
Don't buy a game you've already played if you don't believe it's likely to improve the experience you already had. It's that simple.
Anyone who hasn't already bought the game can decide for themselves and should be able to do so without being called "fools" by pessimistic egocentric cynics. The same goes for anyone who chooses to pay full price to buy the port despite already owning a previous version.
I went on there to wishlist it so I get notified when it goes on sale.
Hardcore gamer here. If the port is good I'm buying on switch. Would have got it on steam deck if a PC port. If it runs well I'll be happy. One of my favorite games.
Not buying or supporting this practice, ever. If you're getting it on Switch there is at least an argument to be made.
I'm used to Nintendo's overpriced ports, but they shouldn't be the new standard for re- releasing decade- old games. At least they have a solid enough recent reputation ...unlike Rockstar.
@playstation1995 It's a mediocre port if it's all true for the price and it's extras it's way too little.
Most casual gamers don't read twitter/reddit rants before making a purchase. It's sad that Rockstar can get away with this.
Its a shame cause Rockstar put some effort on GTA V port that was very affordable and reasonable priced at PS5...(like $10) at launch
I'll stick with my upgraded 360 copy thanks Rockstar.
This is why Take Two dont care, Sheeple buy the brands they are told to.
Y'know, game development is extremely time consuming and costly, but considering that Rockstar made Red Dead Redemption 2 and included half of the world of Red Dead Redemption 1 within RDR2, I feel it's such a missed opportunity to not have remade RDR 1 in the RDR 2 engine.
I'm not saying it would be an easy task at all, but there's a good foundation that's already been laid.
I guess the economics of the situation is the ultimate deciding factor; it's far far cheaper, quicker and easier to release that disappointing port than remake RDR 1.
This is why we can't have nice things.
It's a ripoff for sure at $50 but seriously though, who thought this wasn't going to sell well? It's a very popular and beloved Rockstar game. Of course it was going to sell well. I plan to pick it up too though not until a steep sale is applied.
Plus if your looking for a Wild West game to play there aren't many other options really. It's a surprisingly rare setting for video games it feels like.
Most gamers don't read gaming news, and that's not really... news.
The trick is to not support this lazy and cynical garbage. But noooooo a whole bunch of lemmings will lap it up and legitimise this.
@Arnna
Thats how microtransactions and releasing broken games became the norm.
Gamers have been conditioned to beta test games at launch and be drip fed content every few months
@Netret0120 it’s pathetic. Like, have some self respect people…
Some time ago I was thinking buying a Japanese physical copy of RDR on ps3 so I was kinda glad to see a release on ps4, however there's no Japanese subtitles (unlike both chinese) and I can't find it on the Japanese store. No biggie but it's odd.
Of course it is.the same people who is and was complaining are the same one who's going to buy red dead redemption.if the port is good its going to sell even more.word up son
we all knew this was going to sell regardless of the price, Rockstar could churn out toxic waste and slap $100 on it and people would still lap it up 🙄
Wonder how it would have done if it hadn't received all this media criticism before the release. All publicity is good publicity etc etc.
Damn...and people complained about Last Of Us Remastered.
So much for a boycott, lol, the gaming community is a pathetic salty lot. People out of the gate acted like it's a unplayable mess, but if it's 4k stable 30 I'm good. My only critique is the steep price, but once it's on a proper sale (at least -50%) and physical I'll pick it up.
@KundaliniRising333 2023 has been a great year in games all in all.
@Arnna especially people who preorder digital baffle me, but to be honest, the internet outrage culture amongst gamers is just as sheepish. Everyone just yelling into their own echo chamber providing plenty of site traffic and engagement for various media platforms.
Level headed discourse is hard to find these days amongst all the salty keyboard warriors.
Absolute idiots. They probably have 5 copies of GTA5 also
I do find it amusing the whole movement to "boycott" this game has come to nothing — ultimately people will vote with their wallets. Also after the GTA Trilogy fiasco, I'm not surprised that they've just opted for a straight port, but then the salty minority will have things to b!tch about no matter what they're given.
if you are complaining online about the abusive price and the fact it is just a port and still buying it, you are part of the problem and the reason products like this are made.
Let's be honest it's likely people clicking on it to see if its really that ridiculous price 😂
This sucks. Hope this isn't a new trend. Port over an old but great game and charge a premium price for it.
So gamers are becoming more and more like drug addicts?
@tameshiyaku could not agree more.
99% of gamers wouldn't know about the controversy, they dont look at gaming websites my friends dont even know what DLC is!
@edwinjoe450
So does Call of Duty, Activision knows that.
@Discol76
Who cares? It's not my money. And GTA 6 is coming anyway. Maybe there are a lot of new gamers this generation who have never played on a ps3 or 360? New gamers are added every year, children get older and start gaming at a certain age, simple.
@TommyNL it's ridiculous. Stagnates new developments whilst they are squeezing every last penny they can.
@Discol76
yes i agree with you. That's why I said they don't get my money for this. but there are plenty of new players on the market that would love to try rdr on a ps5 or xbox x or switch.
@Pat_trick
Exactly, I knew this would sell well despite my hopes that it would not and send a message. We are the vocal minority. Most people simply do not care about things like being overcharged. Most gamers are fine with or even want games filled with micro transactions, so seeing an overpriced port sell well is no surprise.
I've given up thinking consumers care enough to make a change. All I can do is stick to my guns and not participate. I'd like to play RDR again in a portable format, but its not necessary.
I'll just stick to my 360 copy if I ever want to replay it. Which I honestly have not done since the release of Undead Nightmare.
I'll just wait until Xbox 360 emulation improves on the Steam Deck and transfer my 360 copy to the emulator and play it that way.
@Kang81 That's my philosophy too. The idea of consumers being conscious about their purchases seems less likely every day. I think the only thing we can do is to not partake in it and advise people when they ask for it.
I have it on Xbox 360 too and I'd rather dust it off and play it than play this absurd price. At least we're doing our part.
@Pat_trick
Yeah, people are free to do what they want with their money, it just irritates me that it negatively effects everyone. I'll point it out, but I no longer debate back and forth about it like I used to because it usually just falls on deaf ears.
Like you said, all we can do is what's best for us. I've been more of a patient gamer than ever over recent years. I can wait for a game of the year/ultimate editions with all content to release, and even wait for those to go on sale.
I'm not mad just disappointed.
@TommyNL apologies if it came across as your opinion was ridiculous. That wasn't my intention. Like others have said I just find it frustrating.
@Discol76 No, I didn't see it that way at all. I find it frustrating too, but it is what it is. New gamers, new rounds, new opportunities. But thank you for your comment.
I mean, Sony curate the store so...
