Back when THQ Nordic announced it was bringing South Park back to consoles, many fans perhaps expected another RPG in the vein of Stick of Truth. However, that’s not what developer Question has cooked up: this is instead a 3D four-player co-op game. Needless to say, we’re not all together convinced.
“Join Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, in three-dimensional glory, to celebrate the most magical day in any young child’s life: a snow day,” reads the press release. “Grab up to three friends and battle your way through the snow-piled streets of South Park on a quest to save the world and enjoy a day without school.”
The title’s targeting a 2024 launch, so we’ll surely learn more in the final few months of the year.

I dunno why the developer decided that 3D was the way to go. 3D South Park games are just unnatural!
Trey & Matt have full creative control over South Park.
They’ve got their pulse on gaming. Just go back to comic-con when they jokingly said every feature fans wanted for Stick of Truth would be paid DLC- which it wasn’t.
This is completely tone deaf. Possibly a side effect of Obsidian joining MS.
Every time a new south park game is announced and it isn't a sequel to chefs luv shack I'm disappointed.
Speaking as someone who loves South Park but passionately hates RPG games this has definitely pricked my interest
I loved the RPGs, I think they were great. I can understand the want to move on but to me this just looks meh.
It just feels like a generic 4 player arena game with a South Park skin.
Hopefully I'm wrong and it feels like something that takes the IP and uses it well
They really just got rid of the perfect 2D art style? That's kinda lame, but we'll see I suppose
Cartman - Lame.
This looks like it was made in Dreams. But not in a good way.
Like, this is a $20 school project that will sell for $50 or $60 b/c of the South Park license.
That said, it could work, but I'd almost rather it was flatter like Scott Pilgrim or Castle Crashers. I like 4 player co-op games, what few of them there are, R&C:A41 comes to mind, and Mario 3D World, but this looks, off.
This reminds me of the first South Park game on PS1. That was a first person snowball shooter. Terrible!
I wonder how involved Parker & Stone are with this one. I'm sure I saw an interview about "Stick of truth" saying it was harder to develop then they were expecting. I wouldn't blame them for taking a back seat for this. In fact Cartman's voice sounded a little odd in the trailer.
Haterz…I’m definitely down for this. No schooooo!!!
That’s a very Nintendo 64 era look
The 3D looks awful. The whole charm of the last two games was it felt like you were playing an episode of the show this looks like a cash grab live service game. I hope I am wrong.
Very disappointing, but would have been even worse if it was another RPG, but utterly ruined by the 3D style.
Forced co-op. Hard no from me.
@MattBoothDev tbf, you can’t really say the co-op is forced until we know exactly what type of game it is.
@Fight_Teza_Fight I don't think it has anything to do with Obsidian being part of Microsoft. They didn't make The Fractured But Whole but that was still awesome.
Battle royale??
Such an odd decision after how successful Stick and Fractured were.
@Bentleyma I mean, the article says it's a 3D co-op game so that usually means it's a co-op game.
Again snow, again coop... I'm tired of this concepts.
@MattBoothDev Well yeah, but you can’t say that the co-op is forced if the game is built specifically around co-op.
@__jamiie Yep those RPG’s are both awesome. It just a strange decision as Matt & Trey don’t tend to follow trends- especially for what is a genre that’s been done to death.
It does remind me of that N64 game.
flashbacks to the terrible N64 game
Im not convinced by 3d. Enjoyed the RPGs and in my opinion, this is a franchise where it makes real sense to keep the great 2d sprite look _ whatever game style they aim for.
Can this be played as single player?
Last two games were epic… this just looks… bad
So long as it has comedy, I won't mind it... even if it feels off hahaha
@Bentleyma what's wrong with scaling the game when there are multiple players like every co-op game made in the last 10 years?
Actually, this IS NOT the South Park Video Game we're wanting. This? This looks like hot trash. 3D South Park Video Games just don't look right and look extremely creepy, too. Anyone with half a brain, knows that Good South Park Video Games, are always done in 2D, like the show. Cancel this and give us a sequel to Fractured But Whole. Nobody cares about this soon-to-be dead on arrival trash.
