CD Projekt Red has acknowledged the existence of a rather nasty issue with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, specifically on PS5. While it's unclear just how widespread this problem is, you can find plenty of (understandably devastated) posts about it on Reddit and social media.
Basically, save files are somehow being corrupted, preventing players from loading them up as they potentially lose hundreds of hours of playtime. "We are currently investigating an issue for PlayStation 5 where save files may get corrupted after playing Phantom Liberty for some time using the base game save," the developer writes on its official support page.
"We recommend not to overwrite the existing base game saves when playing Phantom Liberty," it adds. "Thank you for your patience while we're working on a fix."
Thankfully, said fix is "coming soon". CDPR has announced patch 2.01, which includes a fix for the aforementioned save corruption bug. The update also packs a few welcome improvements, like louder radio audio, the ability to cycle to your arm weaponry, and improved technical performance (particularly in the DLC's Dogtown district).
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.01 Patch Notes
- The distorted effect caused by selecting a specific dialogue option when talking to Johnny at the end of Automatic Love will no longer persist on the screen.
- V will no longer die in The Heist by falling through the elevator when riding to the 42nd floor with low FPS.
- Fixed an issue where the UI could show controller inputs when playing with keyboard and mouse.
- Made it possible to properly switch to arms cyberware by cycling through weapons.
- Gig: Breaking News will be properly triggered after approaching the quest area.
- Vehicle radio volume will be adjusted so it's not too quiet when compared to other sounds in the game.
- Addressed the issue of corrupted saves on PlayStation by increasing the maximum save file size limit. Note: this won't fix the saves corrupted before the update. If you're experiencing the issue, keep a working save (e.g. resave it as manual save) till 2.01 arrives.
- Performance improvements for both PC and consoles, especially in the Dogtown area.
Dare we ask if you've ran into this awful save corruption issue? Wait patiently for update 2.01 in the comments section below.

I’ve just hit a known bug in one of the main missions of Phantom Liberty, “You Know My Name”. I’ve reached a point where it won’t let me progress. A bit concerned that I don’t see a fix for it in the patch notes.
The final complete and bug-free version of the game will release in the year mentioned in the game's title.
@Czar_Khastik LOL. Was thinking it was wise to wait at least a few weeks, or months, for a few final patches to 2.0.
Already read about several progress blocking bugs.
@themightyant All jokes aside, but yes, I'm sure they will bring this to from 2.0.x to 2.x in a matter of weeks. QoL improvements are one thing but progress blocking issues are on a whole new level.
Sure, these things happen but I would like to have a AAA experience for a AAA price tag. Maybe that's just too much to ask nowadays and every time we purchase a game we should see it as a Kickstarter campaign: "Maybe one day it will be finished, but for now I'll play test it."
I bought it on xbox because it was easier to play with a controller with back buttons than on PS5. But on xbox since 1.06 there is some kind of flickering on reflective surfaces that happens from time to time. Quite annoying at night
I've thankfully had a pretty smooth experience myself. The only real glitch I can think of is this one time I had a ton of loot to sell and dumped it all at this one weapon deposit site. When I finished the frame rate took a nose dive into the teens and never got it fixed.
Thankfully I just saved and reloaded and haven't had any issues since.
Louder radio and less loud god damned combat music.....
Also I restarted a new game.for this,.very first mission as nomad bugged at the cell.tower,.restarted worked, then mission with Jackie on way to Dex bugged..Jackie just sat at the restaurant...Great game guys even after all this time I can't even get 30mins in without a bug
They're FINALLLY fixing the distorted screen bug? If you picked the dialogue after the Clouds mission that was something along the lines of "****ed in the head worse than you" you could not get rid of the distortion until you did certain side quests, like the one for Brenden the vending machine. Horrible bug.
They still haven't fixed the bug that doesn't allow you to skip dialogue. That one SUCKS.
And there's a new bug on PC that mutes vehicle noises...has something to do with mods, so I have to track down a loose file to delete. That one is kind of on me, that's part of the risk you take when modding.
Glad they're getting these fixes out. Having a blast with Phantom Liberty (aside from playing File Explorer) besides!
So I can finally hear Ritual radio station? Time to reinstall CP77 to just sit into car...
Makes me 100% want to just start the game from scratch.
I encountered this bug and I'm stuck.... But thankfully I've many saves so have to replay 1 mission only
With Ubisoft games you should wait a year and get them on sale. They're cheap, all the content is released and bugs fixed.
With CDPR games you should wait two years and get them on sale. They're cheap, all the content is released and bugs fixed.
I had a feeling something like this would happen. Glad I held off jumping back into the game.
How is it possible that there are these kind of game breaking in a game thats over a year old?
@Darylb88 Did that, the maelstrom boss in the prologue really packs a punch now. The driving is even worse, the NCPD, while being everywhere, are still a pain.
this game is 3 years old and it still has progress stopping bugs insane
@Czar_Khastik you wait til then. It’s quite an impressive game now. And more than worthy of full price. Best part is that you can easily find it heavily discounted.
I apparently had been playing the game glitched out for hours, as I thought it was part of the story.. my screen/map was ‘glitchy’ and wobbly.. thankfully someone found a way to fix it by doing a quest involving Brenden (a coffee machine) and fast traveling/skipping time.. fixed it no problem
Edit: was literally the first bullet point lol
My 197hr save borked. Amazing how CDPR needs you to go to their support site to get the warning but they can push Game Stories all the bleeding time. This should have been a note at the start of the game 😡
Can't wait to play with the new louder radio! I could barely hear it before, so this is going to be incredible!!!
