Side-scrolling platformer The Last Case of Benedict Fox will be ported to PS5 as a Definitive Edition, it's been confirmed. First released for Xbox Series X|S and PC in April, this updated version sports combat and platforming improvements, better visuals and an updated UI, enhanced enemy AI, and further gameplay features. Check out the new trailer above.
While a release date hasn't been announced, The Last Case of Benedict Fox: Definitive Edition looks to build on the base game's launch as well as a recent patch that worked to fix a number of issues on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It heavily tweaked the combat and animation systems, rebalanced enemies, and updated the UI and map markers to make it easier to work out where to go next. With even more improvements from this new Definitive Edition, it appears the PS5 version will be the best one yet — these updates are likely to be patched into pre-existing edtions too.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox currently commands a Metacritic rating of 71 for the Xbox Series X|S version, with many critics on the lower end of the scale complaining of bugs and glitches. It's hoped this Definitive Edition combined with previous updates will fix those launch criticisms. Are you interested in playing this 2D Metroidvania? Let us know in the comments below.

I played some on GamePass and can’t wait to try it again with this patch. It had promise but needed some work. Ridiculous that people pass on games because they think they’re “GamePass fodder”. Is Lies of P just “GamePass fodder”? Sea of Stars (also on PS+ Extra) also just “fodder”?
There are some great indie games I’ve played on GamePass so it’s your loss if you don’t want to play a game just because of it. The stupidity of console wars.
@QuietintheCorner It’s not just you. I’ve seen a bunch of comments here about not wanting to get a game because it’s on GamePass. Judge a game on its merits. Not whether it’s on GP.
Flawed game but I really enjoyed this macabre metroidavania. I especially liked that it didn't hold your hand and I actually had to use my brain to solve puzzles and figure out where to go. Downside was I did get lost a few times and didn't know where to go next, but I believe they added an optional waypointing system post launch if you needed it.
It looks awesome but I’ll not support a game that excluded us Playstation players when it came out. I was willing to buy it day one when I saw the very first trailer, but devs choose to favor Xbox players over us at launch. Their loss, I’ll buy their game when on a discount at 5€ max.
I wanted to love this game but the combat was really bad. Did not go back to it since the major update on Xbox. Too many great games right now to even entertain the idea of playing this game again
@awp69 - The Xbox version got this patch about 2 weeks ago.
Was wondering when this one was going to hit Playstation. Now just waiting on Ravenlok.
I really enjoyed this game. It had some jank and some of the puzzles were a little obnoxious due to some execution issues - all of which appears to be have been fixed with the latest patch.
Voice acting could be better, but we are talking Indie game here, so it's understandable.
The lack of hand holding is welcome and I like that the puzzles require you to think (but if you aren't the puzzle-solving type, you can optionally "Auto-Solve" puzzles when you have what you need to solve it).
I 100% it, so I don't really have a need to go back. I hope the PlayStation release does well and resources spent on the port weren't all in vain.
@Shigurui Thanks! I’ll redownload it to check out.
Ugh this game's such a miss.
This game very much reminds me of Somerville in the way that it looked nice, and had some nice material to work with but just missed getting the most out of it.
@awp69 still fighting the good fight eh awp
@DuncanMcleod Very well said, my exact thoughts.
@awp69 Stop making sense! Don't you know that GP is the death of all things any anything that releases Day 1 over there is either pure garbage or because Microsoft sent in the money hounds to slowly obliterate the gaming market?!
Get with the program or risk becoming persona non grata!
😂
Hate to join the chorus, but this one launched in a really incomplete state on GP and was a real bummer. I definitely wouldn’t go back to it because it was released in such an unfit state. The game needed more time in the oven. Hopefully it’s the game it should have been now.
