Lords of the Fallen's release is imminent, and while we aren't there quite yet, we have a new trailer to tide us over in the meantime. Prepare to die or something like it from 13th October on PS5.
Reputedly more than five times larger than the original 2014 Lords of the Fallen, this bleak fantasy world is an intricate, interconnected play space in the style of the best Souls-likes. As a Dark Crusader, you must journey through the realms of the living and the dead and overcome colossal boss encounters in order to bring light to this blackened world or ensure it is consumed by darkness.
Key features, as described by publisher CI Games and developer Hexworks, are as follows:
- Explore Vast, Interconnected Worlds – Journey across two expansive, parallel worlds in your epic quest to overthrow Adyr. While the living realm presents its own brutal challenges, untold terrors lurk in the nightmarish realm of the dead.
- Define Your Own Legend – Fully customize your character’s appearance from a wide array of visual options before selecting one of nine character classes. Whichever starting path you take, develop your character to your own playstyle by upgrading stats, weapons, armour and spells.
- Master Fast, Challenging Fluid Tactical Combat – Only those that master the deep, tactical combat can hope to survive. Choose from 100s of uniquely brutal weapons, or forgo metal for magic with devastating attacks of the arcane.
- Unite or Fight in Online Multiplayer – Experience the expansive, single-player campaign alone, or invite a second player to join your adventure in uninterrupted, online co-op. But be warned – Heroes from other realms can and will invade.
- Wield a Device of Ungodly Power – Your lantern possesses the ungodly power to cross between worlds. Use this dark art to reach forgotten places, unearth fabled treasures, and even manipulate the very soul of your foe.
- Rise from Death – Fall in the world of the living, and rise again… in the world of the dead. You now have one final chance to return to your living state as all manner of hellish creature descends upon you.
Where are your hype levels for Lords of the Fallen? Will you be picking this one up? Or is Lies of P more your cup of tea? Let us know in the comments section below.

Holy smokes that looks nice
I keep forgetting this falls in 2023! Looking forward to reviews although I have earmarked Spiderman as the last game I will be purchasing this year. In over 30 years of gaming I don’t think I have ever seen a year packed with as much quality as this one. The wallet needs a break!
WOW! what a great trailer. Artistically this is amazing neo-gothic architecture and all. While they clearly started with Dark & Demon's Souls as inspiration they have plenty of their own flair shining through, and the switching realms mechanic seems interesting.
It LOOKS absolutely lovely, I just hope that it PLAYS well too. If so we could be in for something special. If not, it will fall apart quickly. Carefully balanced gameplay is critical in these games, tough but fair. Anxiously await reviews, but sadly no chance to fit it in this year, either way. Too many games, so little time.
Reviews coming today ? I read somewhere embargo lifted on the 11th..maybe could be wrong
Have they said when reviews will be coming out? I’m digging how game looks but I’m still being cautious about putting my money down.
Most anticipated review of the year 😆 it's looked nothing short of superb, but it'll be interesting to see how it really is
@Powerplay94 This was one of my biggest gripes with the first game, and also Lies of P, when I played the demo; hits don't seem to have any effect on enemies, whether throwing them off balance or interrupting. Like every enemy has unlimited poise. Makes it feel a bit cheap that you can't connect a hit or swing through an enemy's attack, but every enemy can do so to the player.
@J2theEzzo @Powerplay94 I definitely have this complaint about many souls type games but it doesn't really seem to be the case to me with this one, the "floatiness" looks more applicable to the dodging and running but there actually looks like a decent weight and impact in the combat/hits to me. maybe I am missing something though
For some reason, the black bars in the trailer bothered me. It feels to me like they were added for "cinematic effect" but in fact obscured a lot of what the developers tried to show. Hopefully the game won't have any such additions and will be a true full-screen experience.
The whole “first next gen soulslike” pitch has me intrigued, I’ve been dodging most of them just too many let’s see how the reviews for this one play out.
Not going to watch the trailer because I'm already sold on the game; can't wait to jump in. Man, what a great year for Soulsborne fans!
@J2theEzzo they’ve since patched it on Lies of P. You now have better poise when pulling off certain attacks like Fable Arts. You’ll still receive damage but it won’t break your poise at all. They also made it easier to stagger tougher enemies so you break their poise with less attacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they patch it one more time to give player better poise and better poise breaking ability.
Waiting for reviews of this one. The lack of gameplay footage is a worry.
@Boxmonkey there has been a ton of gameplay released probably upwards of an hour
@ErrantRob Nice. It's a shame that that part of action heavy games is often overlooked, because it really can make or break the moment to moment combat. A good many excellent games just didn't feel quite right (or felt a bit cheap!) because of it.
Still don't think I'll dip into LoP, but good to know others can enjoy it!
