Bruuuuuuh…. now I gotta add the earbuds to my things to buy for Christmas…
I think I may need to finally get a headset
If the earpads are leatherette plastic then no.
@Arkham24601 replacement velours pads will probably be available shortly after launch, at least that's how it went with the Pulse 3D.
So no wireless option day one on Portal! Just enable Bluetooth and then disable as per $ony’s business model 😄
I do like that the case for the buds seems to look like a teeny tiny ps5.
I am in the market for those buds 😍
@LiamCroft What is the purpose of the "PlayStation Link USB Adapter" wasn't 100% clear.
I want those earbuds. I do plan on picking up a Portal eventually, so the earbuds will be nice to use with it and plus they are bound to be better for everyday use than the generic earbuds I currently use.
@themightyant
It is a USB adapter that is paired with your audio device, so you can plug the adapter into a USB port on a PC or other device and listen. It's basically the same thing as the USB adapter that comes with the current Pulse headset, but it supports PlayStation Link.
Sony doing small videos for their new Playstation headphones and buds ain't wrong but I want vids for new 2024 games instead
Maybe the earbuds, never on the headset. I bought the pulse headphones at launch and they gave me headaches. There are no adjustments so they constantly put pressure on me.
@TheCollector316 Do they not support Bluetooth?
The ear buds look good but I can't imagine they're sound quality would reach audiophile levels. Planar drivers help, but I'll have to wait and see if they're worth it.
I'm not interested in the earbuds, just the portal! 😊
Will the earbuds have similar 3D Audio and Audio quality that the Pulse headphones have? If so I might buy them
I have the Sony Inzone H9’s for PC/PS5 and they are really good. Especially for the price. I do have the newly released Turtle Beach Pro’s for Series X and with the Dolby atmos turned on they are really really good but granted more money so not a fair comparison. However my point is if you have the money and a need for a set of headphones or ear buds, they seem to just keep getting better and better. Audio matters to me a lot. I have no real need for these earbuds, but i think they are cool and wouldn’t mind just having them.
@HonestHick headphone audio is one of few areas where higher monetary value doesn't (necessarily) equal better quality. Especially with wireless gaming branded headsets where you're mostly paying for features, not for audio quality.
@themightyant
From CNet:
"You'll need a USB adapter to connect the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore with the PS5. But the PlayStation Link will allow the devices to stay connected to a phone via Bluetooth."
So, they must support Bluetooth, but need the adapter for PlayStation Link (unless you're talking about the Portal, which has support built in).
PlayStation Link is much higher quality and uses more bandwidth than Bluetooth.
So can the stand alone USB adapter be used with the original pulse headset for use with Portal?
I wish the USB adapter could also be used to wirelessly connect the Dualsense to PC, retaining all supported features. Currently, PC games with official Dualsense support only work via a wired connection. Adaptive triggers and enhanced haptic feedback don't work with a Bluetooth connection.
@TheCollector316 Understood thanks.
Bluetooth also has a latency problem (as I find on Switch with Bluetooth).
Hmm if those earbuds sound good for the price I'm tempted to get them particularly for VR, I have an AV amp so I'm sorted elsewhere for sound.
I love Sony, I really do.
But their messaging is awful sometimes. The Playstation Link system is explained awfully IMO.
@dschons yeah i agree, you have to be careful spending more money on things you aren’t as incline to use or care for. For me i want as basic and simple of a headphone i can get with all the focus on audio quality and ease of use buttons and connection.
@HonestHick Yeah, I can see why. As much as I love my wired cans sound-wise, sometimes I wish I would have never tried them. Because I was happy with the sound I knew and being able to walk around while still chatting to my friends. Ignorance is bliss, lol. But I simply can't go back now.
I would look at the earbuds if in the market for one. That said, non of mine have ever cost me more than $50.
Sony sure does love the price of $199 the dualsense 199 and the portal 199.
@NeonPizza the audio comes directly from the PS5 via the USB dongle, so yes. I'm using the old PS4 gold headset with my PSVR2 and they work splendidly.
Why charge £199.99 for earbuds if the other two exchange rates/prices are different? Earbuds should be £159.99 or £169.99.
Sony - for the wallet.
That band along the top of the Pulse would give me headache, so I wound up getting an Inzone instead. This new headset also looks like a cranially tight migraine machine.
@themightyant If you need another lossless audio adapter for your phone or laptop, I think.
@IronMike That's rather inexpensive for planar magnetics
@xDD90x Hmm weird, I think it's not the case on macOS.
@themightyant you need it to put into your ps5 since it doesn’t have Bluetooth support, if you want an additional one say for like your PC, you can if you rather use PlayStation Link for your PC instead of Bluetooth.
@PSPortalRules you’ll have to stick with wired earbuds then
I want the buds but I can't pay half the price of my console for those. It's very high. I am going to have to read several reports saying these are game changers before commiting 200 bangers to them.
I own Sony Pulse 3d and airpods Pro 2 gen. No need for another
I'll stick with the Arctis headset thanks. Playstation's headsets have never been comfortable for me since the Pulse Elite back on the PS3. There's always that Diagonal Plastic inside the ear cup that presses against my ear and it hurts after just an hour or two.
I was fully expecting to get the earbuds day one. That said sometimes life happens. I'm still very interested. I just might have to wait.
@dschons I understand. I got a killer surround sound in my gaming/Media room upstairs, but our little one sleeps right next to that room, so i often times have to use headphones. I do not want to lose audio quality, so i try and get good ones that please my ears enough when i can’t be loud with the Surround sound. Only my switch do i not care much what headphones i use. Often time i just use my AirPods on switch.
I wonder if the new PS5 slim has the PS link built in... The new PS5 only has USB C on the front (with USB A at the rear) so if it's anything like my current PS5, I can't put the USB stick in the rear as it doesn't provide a clear path to me and produces drop outs.
@IronMike Looks like US is getting a lower price for some reason, as EURO price is 219.99, which is usually the same as US number.
@NeonPizza direct link is always better for latency. There's no way to argue that. But I didn't care for the included pair either.
@IronMike Cliche argument. And cliche explanation- the US price doesn’t include tax and no state in the US tax 20% like in the U.K. EU countries also tax a lot. But generally things also a bit cheaper in America and Asia. I am not sure about the reason they price earbud differently but it is common with tech products. Just wish U.K. cut some tax rate for ordinary people.
@IronMike because their market research experts with PhDs running price elasticity models, know the demand is high enough to get away with that price, and they have a fiduciary responsibility to extract as much profit for their shareholders as possible
I'm in the market for some new ear buds, so the timing is spot on here. However, I obviously want bluetooth, so these are not getting purchased.
I'll play the portal with wired headphones and I'll use it less as a result. Which means I'll ultimately buy less software for my PS5 too. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
Sony seem to think we live in a world where people wear different ear buds for different devices... maybe some are OK with that, but I am certainly not.
200 quid for buds.Thats a typo, right??
