Asobo Studio, the French outfit behind the much loved A Plague Tale games, has renewed its partnership with publisher Focus Entertainment in order to pursue "another exciting project". The announcement comes alongside news that 2022's A Plague Tale: Requiem has hit three million players just ahead of its one year anniversary.
Neither Asobo Studio nor Focus Entertainment has dropped hints on what might be next for the developer. It's entirely possible that we're getting a third A Plague Tale title — especially when you consider the last game's apparent success — but it could also be something completely new.
What would you like to see from Asobo Studio? More rats, or a crack at something fresh? Watch out for the swarms in the comments section below.

Excellent news. As a game, I felt Requiem was a marked improvement over the first and ultimately an extremely well executed tragedy. Asobo have a unique vision and voice and I’m excited to see what they do next.
More historical settings always welcome, even if it's not for APT3. Love the themes, style and tone they captured so would hope they keep with that style.
How about they do something like 'The Last Duel', the game. Hire Ridley Scott as a consultant so he can shout at people who would rather play Fortnite and CoD instead of appreciating the arts 😁
Just in from the UK and it’s been given the go ahead to go to court.
Sony Facing £5 Billion Class Action Lawsuit Over PlayStation Store Prices - News
I was just thinking about picking up Innocence in the Black Friday sale. From the trailers both games look great
I’d love to see them do another cinematic game in a different setting.
@OldGamer999 Their main argument is that devs are upping prices because Sony are taking a 30% cut right? The same thing Microsoft does? which is strange that they aren't being sued as well 🤔
The whole case is a joke, they fully belive if Sony take a lower cut then games won't be £70 and us UK players will be paying less for digital games, If Sony lose that case then I fully expect every game on the store to be lowered in price by £10-£15.
Just did some digging and the Xbox Store, Google Play Store, Nintendo Eshop and Steam also all take a 30% cut, I just can't fathom why Sony are the only ones being targeted by this unless those who started the case were obvious fan boys with a grudge, hopefully Sony brings this up and either all stores have to take a lesser cut or things carry on as they are now. But either way I can't see games becoming cheaper for us consumers.
Very happy for the news. I have a thought that Asobo has as much potential as Remedy in terms of inventing original narratives and developping a solid gameplay system for it. I would be excited for a sequel on APT, but trying something different could be the opportunity for Asobo to develop further their own identity, just as Remedy matured theirs, from my point of view, with Control and Allan Wake 2.
I loved both Innocence and especially Requiem so I'll definitely be interested in whatever it is! Asobo is a very talented team.
There are so few cinematic game experiences - the only games I care for - so it's so good to have another player in that "genre". Around 5 studios and Asobo is getting close to ND quality, very cool
“2022's A Plague Tale: Requiem has hit three million players just ahead of its one year anniversary.”
That number actually seems low. And when they report how many players tried the game instead of how many copies sold, it tells me it probably didn’t sell well. Asobo and Focus got their GamePass money, so I’m sure they’re happy with that, but I’m surprised only a couple million GP subscribers tried the game as I imagine it sold about 1 million. Also the game is available on Nintendo via cloud streaming, so that number is even less impressive on all 3 consoles, one of which has it for “free”
I don't know whether it is a 'fanboy with a grudge', @UltimateOtaku91. It could just as easily be that the person filing the case is a PlayStation gamer and that it therefore only makes sense to make the argument against Sony.
It would be like taking a case to Court because there is a problem with the gear box on a Porsche, when you in fact drive a Ford Escort! You're just unlikely to argue someone else's case.
What could happen though, is that either people that game on an Xbox or a PC, might see this as an opportunity to piggyback off of the Sony case. Or, if Sony lose the case, that both Microsoft and Valve might take pre-emptive action and match any reduction in pricing that Sony introduce as a result of having lost the case, rather than be taken to Court themselves where the result of the Sony case would put them at a severe disadvantage. After all, if prices of games were to reduce by 5% on the PlayStation, that would leave the Xbox in particular as having games costing 5% more that the PlayStation, and with Xbox being so far behind the PlayStation, they can hardly afford to be the move expensive place to game.
Lastly, it should also be remembered that the market share that Sony hold is vast in comparison to Microsoft. Therefore, far more people are affected by the cost of gaming on a PlayStation when compared to an Xbox. So, it kind of makes sense to take the biggest player to Court, because if you win against them, then the affects are likely to ripple down to the other industry players...
@Jimmer-jammer Is Requiem better? I've tried to play the first game a couple of times but it's never held my attention, even though it is the kind of game I usually like.
Hopefully something that is single player and narrative focused as they are superb at that. The plague tale games are atmospheric near masterpieces in my eyes
@pushL7 Though I did enjoy Innocence overall, it very much felt to me like a first try, chock full of great ideas executed half measure. Despite the incredible atmosphere and intriguing narrative, its gameplay systems never fully gelled cohesively, save for a couple of scenarios near the end of the game.
Comparatively, Requiem was a real maturation of everything the first game attempted, much larger in scope and much more confident in its approach. I’d say if you could see the potential of the first game but were disappointed that it didn’t fully coalesce, Requiem will likely be much more to your liking. If you didn’t like the vibe, structure, or gameplay on a fundamental level, I don’t think Requiem would change your mind.
