Both of Final Fantasy 16's expansions have been officially announced in one trailer. The first, titled Echoes of the Fallen, is out right now on PS5 — which is one hell of a shadow drop. The second, titled The Rising Tide, arrives in spring 2024. As if next year's first few months weren't already busy enough!
You can buy an 'Expansion Pass' that includes both DLCs at a discounted price of $24.99 / £19.99, or you can nab them separately. Echoes of the Fallen is just $9.99 / £7.99 by itself, however, so we're left assuming that The Rising Tide will be more expensive — at least $15 / £13.
Both expansions feature new storylines — which take place before the main game's ending — new battles, new equipment, and new, explorable dungeons. What's more, if you snag Echoes of the Fallen or the aforementioned Expansion Pass, you unlock the Buster Sword — the big old blade used by Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy 7. We're not sure it suits Clive's style, but it's a nice bonus.

I expected a trailer, but never a shadow drop.
IMMEDIATELY???
shadow drop for this and semi for gow. Ok sony ok, now I have faith for 2024 second half.
Darn, I have finished the second playthrough like 36 hours ago! 😂 was midway through FF1 pixel remaster but I guess I can finish it pretty quickly
Doesn't appear to be live or even on the ps store though 🤔
Uggggghhhh I have to admit the environments in the first DLC look pretty dope. And hey, more Soken music!
Wasn't expecting this!
Just bought Fate Samurai Remnant so I'll have to hold off for now, but I'll definitely get it.
I literally just lent this out 😂
They should have gone back to back with GoW Valhalla and the Echoes expansion pack. Pretty much break the internet and PSN.
While i am happy, like i said after i beat the game and given how quick this came out, this bit of the game was carved put to be sold as dlc and for that i do give Yoshida-san a thumbs down on this aspect. Though perhaps it was not his fault and was a higher up decision.
Still a big fan though. But he let me down cause he promised a complete game and that bit was clearly missing.
But, with that said, i am excited to replay the game in it's complete state.
I will wait for the second dlc to come oit first though.
Very excited to see what the Leviathan abilities will be and how much more we can break the game. 🤣
@Nem "But he let me down cause he clearly promised a complete game and that bit was clearly missing"
Yoshi P literally said word for word that if there is feedback to want more content he will make it. This is their response after the success.
Leviathan… I can’t wait to see where this goes and how it adds to the story in a meaningful way.
A shadow drop would be cool if I actually had any funds in my account to buy it now 😭. Gonna get this as soon as I can
@Nepp67 This is not new. This stuff slotted into the game. There was a time skip where this content goes. Leviathan was mentioned. Characters shadow dropped that Clive knew from his time in this content.
I am a huge YoshiP fan, but this is clearly the case. The content was carved out cause it was incomplete. They sold the game and if there was "demand" they would finish it up. That is what they are doing. There is no questioning that, sorry. Leviathan was mentioned in the main game. The voicing was done years ago. It was always part of the plan.
Mind you, this isn't nearly as bad as FFXV. He made a huge effort and it might have been an executive decision to not delay the game anymore and cuts had to be made.
Either way the game is getting completed and i am happy about it, even though i wish it was there on the vanilla release. I think the game would've been better if it was.
@KundaliniRising333
I don't see it on the PlayStation Store in the U.S.
As if I needed another excuse to play that masterful game again.
Edit: One hour after this comment, at 12:30am EST, Echoes of the Fallen is now showing up on the PlayStation Store for $10 or $25 for both.
I need to fight that Tonberry King 😮
@Nem I'm pretty sure I will take the word of the creator himself instead of someone theorizing what possibly happened.
Welp, time to play through this again for the….I dunno, fifth time? Sixth time? Either way, a pleasant surprise, which will be more so when it actually goes live on the PS Store.
@Nepp67 wow... ok. The evidence is there. If you want to ignore it, go on ahead. You didn't have to reply to me if you just wanted to believe public statements only.
I mean... did you see them come and tell us FFXV was complete? I guess it was.
I wonder if you even played these games.
Anyways, moving right along.
This is awesome news! I’m not sure when I’ll go back to the game — maybe early January, but it’ll give me an excuse to replay the game and obtain the platinum trophy.
Great! I finished it, so I’m not sure how that will work, but I hope it doesn’t make it inconvenient.
I did keep multiple saves.
Nah hard pass
but happy for the enjoyers of the game
@Nem So this takes place during the time skip but you’re running around with Joshua, who you don’t even meet again until way after the time skip, right?
@Nem Yeah this is a late game mission that you can only do once you’ve unlocked Origin as a destination, the very end of the game.
@ChrisDeku Yes, after the time skip. Doesn't seem to be the Leviathan bit yet though. That will be the next dlc.
Looking at how the DLC is priced i am not expecting a huge story expansion. More some bosses and the Leviathan abilities.
We can already spy them on the screenshots.
I might have placed my hopes too high initially for what this would be. Still, i'll take it and fingers crossed.
Oh well il wait til the 2nd for a repeat play through.
@Jaz007 playing it right now - it starts with a mission you can take at Charon’s shop once you have Origin on the world map. Very easy to pick up. Having a blast, though this is obviously DLC it fits well in the lore.
Huge news this for me. I adore ff16!. Can’t wait to get back on it now!!! Can anyone confirm if there are dlc trophies along with the pack?
Loving the design of that Tonberry King. Different, yet familiar.
@Mikey856 yes, 6 new trophies (one specific to playing the game on final fantasy mode) - got them all just playing through the DLC. It’s short and sweet and gives you some nice equipment
@Nei oh cool thanks bro, I’ll be working my way through them then. Isn’t there one for that already in the base game however?
@Mikey856 yes, that one is for clearing the game on FF mode, this one requires you to beat the final boss of the new area but only on final fantasy mode (wouldn’t pop after beating the boss on normal)
@Nei really hoping that "one" will pop when I turn the game back on, although the fight wasn't too bad. Did you finish it? How long was the DLC?
@slips666
I'm a decent way through the DLC. It's about three hours according to many people who finished it already.
@TheCollector316 @slips666 yes I’d say 3 - 3,5 hours
Shadow drop was nice also Ben Starr really deserved best performance 👏 smh 😤
I remember when they announced it wouldn't have any DLC and I was delighted and decided to buy the game after all. Too bad they didn't keep their promise and that the game turned out to be a boring 'tap to win' hallway.
