Naughty Dog and HBO are making public lots of new cast members joining the fray in The Last of Us Season 2. The string of announcements continues today, with the reveal that Dina will be played by Isabela Merced.
Known for roles in movies like Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Sicario 2: Soldado, and Instant Family, the actress will play Ellie's love interest, Dina, in the TV adaptation's second season. Reported by Variety, here's what showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin had to say about the casting: "Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable... You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”
As mentioned, this isn't the only cast announcement to be made recently. It's also been revealed that Kaitlyn Dever and Young Mazino will fill the roles of Abby and Jesse respectively.
They'll all join Pedro Pascal (Joel), Bella Ramsey (Ellie), Gabriel Luna (Tommy), and plenty more in season 2 of the show. The first season picked up no less than eight Emmy awards recently, and the second begins production very soon.

‘BUT SHE WEARS HER HAIR UP IN THE TV SERIES - HOW IS THIS GOOD CASTING’
But aside from the fandom drama, some great signings already and I am so pumped for the new series once it airs… in 3028.
This is ridiculous, why hire someone who has their hair down for this role.

This might be their best casting yet! Perfect!
I suppose she's fine though she isn't that good of an actress and has yet to show why Hollywood is hyping her.
Wasn't Dina of Jewish decent? Wasn't that a big part of her character?
Everyone I know that doesn't play games loves the show. Gamers are unhappy people and hard to please.
@Triumph741 So you saying that womens only value is their physical appearance? Thats pretty misogynistic. 😉

Dina was the only character in the game that really really annoyed me, I was somehow hoping they might have forgotten to cast her in the show, good casting though, I guess.
Looking forward to the point when the show is done and we/ND/Sony can concentrate on the games again
@Triumph741 I guarantee you plenty of conventionally attractive women experience misogynistic attitudes and comments on social media lol
@Americansamurai1 Yeah but Hollywood don't care about that.
@Ralizah Not about casting choices
She's cast in the new alien movie too. Alien romulus, comes out this year. Cannot wait for that movie
@DennisReynolds yeah very true.

Never heard of the actress but as soon as I saw that pic on Twitter earlier I knew she’d be playing Dina. I do think her nose is a little small as @Americansamurai1 alluded to but only b/c Dina’s big nose is 1 of the first things I noticed about her, I have a thing for Mediterranean women, sue me.😂 Not all Jewish women have big noses though, I predict she’s still Jewish in the show,🤷🏻♂️
I liked her in instant family.
@Americansamurai1 I wouldn't say it was a major part of her character. I only recall them talking about it once while in a synagogue. The show can easily not have a scene in a synagogue and it becomes a non-issue.
@SlySnake0407 Druckmann decided that Dina would be Jewish fairly early in development. He felt that she struggles with the religion, not believing every part of the Torah, but her relationship with it remains important to her. Her name means "judgment" in Hebrew, which he felt reflected on the game's themes. As a narrative function, Dina represented the community. Found this online.
Isn't she a bit old for this version of Ellie?
She'd make a great Shadowheart from BG3.
@LifeGirl don't forget we have a time jump!
@slips666 But how are they going to age up Bella Ramsey?
Neat, I guess.
As long as the 2nd season is good, that's all I care about.
I enjoyed Season 1, though I felt like it should have been a few episodes longer to build a better relationship between Joel and Ellie and give the Finale a little more weight to it all.
Wait didn't someone play her in s1 already 😂
@LifeGirl I feel like they intentionally made Ramsey look younger for the first season, and they can do a lot to "age up" an actor/actress. "Dina" also doesn't look as old in other photos as the one used in this article. I think we will be ok.
@LifeGirl Movie magic🌟🌟🌟
They've been doing a lot of casting announcements this week. When they did the casting announcements for season 1 it was 23 months before season 1 started airing.
So using that same time frame, season 2 will be released end of 2025 or beginning of 2026.
Wish they had made better casting choices for Joel and Ellie. It’s hard to be excited about this new season when the first one was so lacklustre.
@bpomber 13months makes it feb 25?!
@PsBoxSwitchOwner oops, typo! I meant 23 months. Thanks for catching that.

@JSnow2
It is. Ignore the people who think we can't criticize the casting director's decisions as if said director's choices are some kind of act of god.
Abby's choice was horrible.
Dina's choice is good.
Possibly one of the only bits of good casting they've made
Putting bizarre racial stereotyping of noses in this thread aside for one moment... while it's important to ensure an increase in minority representation in all workplaces, it's not critical to the success of an actor in a role when their job is literally pretending to be someone else. Particularly here when it's more a case of backstory.
In general the casting has really worked for me so far, both current and future, it's going to be a long wait to see her performance though...
