Since its full release in September of last year, Baldur's Gate 3 has seemingly sold more than 10 million copies — or thereabouts. Larian Studios hasn't posted an official figure, but when addressing topics such as upcoming mod support and community feedback on Twitter, director of publishing Michael Douse wrote: "This is a game that went from ~2 million players to way over 10 [million] in a very short space of time."
It's unclear what caused the massive leap in players that Douse is referring to (maybe it's just the gap between early access and full release), but it's a number that certainly doesn't raise any doubts. We are, after all, talking about a Game of the Year-worthy, near universally praised RPG that somehow managed to eclipse blockbuster sequels like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Of course, it'll only be a matter of time until Larian shares some official data — especially if this 10 million thing is accurate — but would you be at all surprised to hear that Baldur's Gate 3 has been such a huge success? Head for the city in the comments section below.

I wonder how much money they would have lost had they put it on a subscription service?
I have this lined up to be my main Summer game. Probably alongside SMT V and Elden Ring DLC. Excited to play BG3 but want the time to dedicate to it. Congrats to Larian for the 10 million sales!
Congratulations to them, well deserved success.
@Splat A lot.
MS believed they would be looking at £5million to add it to GP.
Using that figure.
That’s 100,000 copies at £50 to make that money.
Had it gone on GP you can imagine a couple of million of the 10 that bought it would play there.
So that would be at a guess £100million. So maybe £95million? Using conservative guesses.
N.i.c.e. Baldur's gate 3 is a masterpiece.larian studio is a amazing publisher.both divinity original sin enhanced edition.and divinity original sin 2 definitive edition is a masterpiece.word up son
@Krydle you would imagine that a deal for a game to join day 1 would be made months and months in advance. So yeah it probably would have been close to that amount.
Got to wonder what percentage of those people completed the game. Almost everyone I know that plays games bought it, but I know just one person who has completed it.
I'm on act two right now. The game is typical Larian though. When it works it's some of the greatest stuff I've played and I feel like a genius.
When it doesn't (the combat isn't good and it's a step below DoS2 or BG2) it really feels like the game exists to waste time.
My other problem is playing act two I can see an immediate reduction in quality overall. The story stalls for a bit, the shadow cursed lands are boring to look at. The last issue is the camera indoors which on console can get really uncomfortable.
So far an 8.5/10. I can see why it's revered and why sales are so strong. It deserves it just on ambition.
@breakneck I thought combat was great, I like it more than D:OS’s, and think BG2’s is a disastrous mutilation of DnD combat.
But if you think act 2 is stalling, you’re not gonna like act 3…
It starts easily as one of the greatest games ever made though. Them starts to stumble away from that as it progresses.
@Jaz007 Yeah Act one is probably one of the best opening acts since Bloodborne. I am enjoying the game a lot and it has wormed itself into my head even during work hours but what I've heard about the overwhelming nature of Act 3 has me worried.
The jump in players is obviously leaving early access and due to websites showing Steam stats we knew for sure the game has sold way past 10 million copies.
Not much new information there.
Nice. Almost as much as early access Palworld.
Here's hoping that this means Larian can weather the current trend ofayoffs, and maybe even scoop up some talent to be even more ambitious in thier projects.
Well deserved. Not my cup of tea, and maybe I'll see why it's so lauded later in life, but I recognize the quality and see why people love it so much (my friend and GF included).
