Dead Cells Post-Launch Support Coming to an End After Five Years of Updates 1

Dead Cells is the excellent side-scrolling roguelike action game from Motion Twin. We loved it back when the vanilla version launched years ago, but it's since received many huge updates, adding a vast amount of extras to keep the experience fresh. Now, though, the studio has announced that the next update to the game will be the last.

Evil Empire has been leading the post-launch development for Dead Cells for the last five years, helping Motion Twin keep the title going while it began work on its next game. With the release of Update 35(!), Evil Empire will be moving on, and Motion Twin is already hard at work on Windblown, its co-op roguelike game announced last year.

"Update 35 for Dead Cells marks the end of our creative journey on the game," Motion Twin says in an update to fans. "After an incredible 5-year collaboration in bringing additional content to Dead Cells' live-ops, Evil Empire will be pursuing new adventures and we can't wait to see what they come up next. This comes after much reflection, especially following the awesome success of the "Return to Castlevania" DLC last year."

The studio goes on to say it wants to not "overextend and risk diminishing" what makes Dead Cells what it is, which seems fair enough to us. After half a decade, we think moving onto other projects is more than reasonable.
