Need for Speed Unbound becomes available to PS Plus Extra members later today, and developer Criterion is talking a big game when it comes to an unexpected second year of post-launch support. In an attempt to help shape the future of the NFS franchise, two out of four content drops between now and December will be inspired by past entries in the racing series. The feedback to these will then be used to "help shape the future of this iconic franchise".
In May 2024, a Drift & Drag pack inspired by Need for Speed Underground will be dropped, followed by Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit-inspired content in August. Before and after them will be a Head to Head event collaboration with Audi and a secret fourth volume. Every content update will deliver at least one new game mode, two new cars to customise, a Speed Pass (both free and paid paths), and more events, challenges, and PvP playlists.
"Committing to an extended Unbound live service allows us to really build on feedback, which we’ll be gathering in a few ways," a blog post confirms. "We’re working closely with a dedicated Player Council - a great bunch of NFS influencers, core community members, and players to understand what’s important to them and their communities." The team will use more telemetry data to track what's working for players in-game, and there'll be a better feedback loop as it lets you "know what we've heard and what we can and can't do".
Released for PS5 in December 2022, we awarded an 8/10 score in our Need for Speed Unbound PS5 review, sharing praise for its stylish presentation and satisfying driving. "If you can forgive a slightly underwhelming backdrop and a barebones online mode, the minute-to-minute action makes this more than worth taking for a spin." Are you happy to hear of all this upcoming content for a new PS Plus Extra game? Let us know in the comments below.

Played full game at launch and it was actually pretty solid, great fun for a good 20-30 hours.
Cool that it's getting loads of support. I've not tried this yet so might get it downloaded later.
Criterion needs to prove they are still well and truly alive.
Uhh, Drift and Drag? That sounds interesting. I clocked 100+ hrs in first 4 months and put it away after they were SO SLOW with updates and fixes. But this could bring me back to try again atleast for some time.
Enjoyed the base game. Didn't even realise there was any DLC. May go back to it.
Legitimate question: is this game any good compared to NFS: Rivals or Payback?
@Czar_Khastik blows them out of the water man
@Uromastryx Well then, I'll be on the lookout for a physical copy. Thanks mate
Hmmm might install this again if there are to be more updates, enjoyable enough game.
This would be my favourite but it really bugs me I can't replay my favourite races again unless I finish the game which I haven't yet. As for Live Service that will never interest me.
Here's some feedback, make a new Burnout.
Tried it today. Can't say I was inspired to play again after having to skip 10 pages of different ways to spend money on it and having to listen to that horrible music
Not played it, but loved the old Criterion games, including NFS: Most Wanted 2012.
Can the bizarre graphical effects be switched off and does it feature the usual character-driven story nonsense?
@Topov81 yes and yes!
I've not played a need for speed since I got the platinum on Rivals. Through Ps plus and the like I've now got every NFS since. I'm hoping to give one a go and got the itch for an arcade racer. Is this unbound the best since or are any of the others better?
