Murmurs of an upgraded PS5 Pro have been rumbling for some time now, and analysts are certain it’ll arrive some time later this year. The souped-up system is being billed as the best place to play the hotly anticipated GTA 6, which is scheduled to release some time next year. It’s expected the new hardware will complement the existing console, offering optional performance upgrades for those willing to invest in it, much like with the PS4 Pro.
“There seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024,” said Serkan Toto of Tokyo-based consultancy firm Kantan Games. “And Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA 6 hits in 2025, a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry.”
There’s been much hand-wringing in the industry this week over PlayStation’s financials. The Japanese giant was forced to revise its PS5 sales forecasts, down from an ambitious 25 million units to 21 million, which it should be noted is still an extraordinarily high number. Worse, while its revenue is record-breaking, its profit margins are getting slimmer and slimmer, which has become a cause of concern for investors.
Whether or not introducing a new piece of hardware will help with that remains to be seen, although analysts aren’t expecting any PS5 price cuts, which means an upgraded model would likely come in with a cost a lot higher than the current unit. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of advantages the PS5 Pro provides, and whether consumers deem it worthy of the upgrade.

I would pay an extra $150-$200 for a PS5 Pro that could play most games at a guaranteed 60 FPS with 4K graphics. Add in a little ray tracing and maybe a bit more memory and we are good to go. Maybe if I hold off on a day one purchase, there might even be a GTA6 bundle. That would be the dream.
Given it’s likely to only provide a small performance boost; there’s no chance.
The first two comments with opposing answers. There you have it. I should add that my son and I play a lot of games together and until recently, cross play between the PS5 and PS4 Pro has been fine. But now, after almost four years, there are finally PS5 exclusives like Helldivers being released that we both want to play so a second PS5 is needed. Hopefully the days of cross generation games are over.
Surely this should be under “Rumour” rather than “News”
Anyway, I’m generally against mid gen refreshes, and this feels particularly egregious because we basically haven’t scratched the surface of the base units, but I’ll likely get one at some point given how long I anticipate this gen to last and the fact that it can give some resolution bumps to PSVR2 games especially.
as long as we dont have numbers regarding price and performance, all rumors are useless to me
I not too long ago ‘upgraded’ from original model PS5 to slim.
Even not considering that, I doubt all that many will be scoring a PS5 pro for one reason or another.
I would hope GTA 6 performance is still more than decent on standard PS5. Rockstar definitely owes that after denying the game contemporarily on PS4 (all resources devoted to RDR2 or not).
@Stevemalkpus so far, you provided the only news I was happy to read this morning, that a father plays a lot of games with his child. Nice! ^_^
Considering what Totoki said about inability of Sony to drop prices of PS5 permanently because of low margins I fully expect this Pro console to cost 650$ at best.
If it has the same disc drive "policy" as the "slim" model I will stick with my fat PS5 and just get a nice SSD to put in it
@Stevemalkpus Console gamers really don't understand how difficult 60FPS/4K actually is. That's something high end PC's still struggle with so no don't expect the Pro to do it as it won't especially with games like GTA 6.
I'll most likely get it if it's a good 30%+ better performance compared to the base model. Max $650 is what I'll pay for it.
More than that, I would rather just invest in a better Pc then the one I currently have.
I would jump on board so I can get steady 60 fps on 4K. But some better coding will be needed too and not again rely on the hardware only. We have good examples what can be achieved with some proper coding.
I hate these mid gen refreshes. In this economy especially. It feels slimy, especially with the severe lack of exclusive, hardware pushing games that still has not given the base model enough value in my opinion. Stuck with PS3 which I still love, stuck with PS4 which was wonderful, but PS5 has been very disappointing. I refuse to buy this and will most likely jump ship completely to just Nintendo and PC next generation. Nintendo makes excellent, industry pushing games within reasonable time and budgets, and PC gets almost all other games at this point anyway, with none of the Sony slime.
Then again, I'm fine with lower specs so long as the games are there. If you've got the money, like your PS5 and want the best, by all means go ahead. It's just my own opinion on modern Sony.
If we assume that the pro will be 150-200$ more expensive, then we are looking at a 700$ Console.
That is so much money. Not a lot of people will be willing to afford one, especially since many people only managed to buy a PS5 in 2023 in the first place. Add to that the cost of living crisis and the PS5 Pro will most definitely be a luxury product.
I wonder if this is a smart move. Wouldn’t it make more sense to focus on the PS5 base/slim and force developers to get the most out of that hardware?
If we look at the Nintendo Switch, that hardware is ancient. But Developers like Monolithsoft manage to leverage that hardware to its fullest potential, creating games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that have no right looking as good as they do.
@itsfoz besides, having a high end tv/monitor will resolve most of the current PS5 framerate/display concerns. I’m currently running Hogwarts Legacy with the maxed out ray tracing mode and 60fps at the same time on my LG C2 tv. Even the maxed out God of War Ragnarök is running at a sublime 120.
@TheStormGL Exactly what I mean. Not just the price and economy, it just hasn't felt like anything has really pushed the PS5 yet. Hoping GTA 6 will push it to the limit, like 5 did way back on PS3.
@TheStormGL I’m with you 💯. I’m sure they’ll keep doing it anyway since they’re still doing it on PS4. I won’t upgrade until the new PS6 merges.
I will hold off a decision untill I can clearly see what real life advantages the pro version could bring to the table. I highly dount ps5 pro will make a huge difference in the first batch of games as we barely have more than a couple of titles that have showcaded what the base system is capable of let alone the pro version.
Deep down I think we all accept that there is no chance a PS5 Pro will deliver GTA 6 at 4k and 60fps.
Starting to feel they undercooked the base ps5 now, looking at the performance/visuals of FF16 and FF7 rebirth as PS5 exclusives, both struggling massively, i dont think there is much juice left in it
I think they are gonna struggle since again, stock issues in the first 2 years and a lack of meaningful price drops have meant that the PS5 doesnt feel like its in the same place as the PS4 was when the Pro dropped. When I picked up the Pro, PSVR had just released, there was HZD and several other big first party titles on the horizon. What titles are going to take advantage of it?
I'm looking forward to gta 6.
Still play gta 5 and gta online here and there so can't wait for a new map to explore
I'll get the pro and the Xbox refresh day one as well. Looking forward to the refresh. Already replaced my massive bulky ps5 with a slim 😅
"a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry" I'm not sure how the masses just fawning over and playing one game benefits the rest of the industry but whatever
At this point I'll probably buy a PS5 Pro if it's a noticeable jump, not for GTAVI but the PS5 is already showing it's age with many 60fps modes looking low res and even playing Like A dragon on PS5 it's unstable in quite a few areas. I've since started playing that on my PC and in those same areas I'm over 100fps at a higher resolution too. I'm not expecting it to match my PC but locked 60fps and a sharper image would be nice
As much as a Pro model would cost,it would make sense if Playstation has paid the bucketloads they would've to Take-two to market it with GTA VI.
A hardcore system for the disposable income types that spend big on GTAO & Shark Cards.
It might also settle the "Sony is walking away from the PS5" stories since their Stockholder meeting.
Yes,there's little doubt they're planning next gen. They're hunting a new SIE Jim Ryan replacement. They're trying to pivot first parties &/or live services, how many we don't know but the acting CEO as a senior Sony Exec is pushing "be more productive/& don't go over budget".
There'll be a PS6,they're competing with a Microsoft,Zenimax,ABK megacorp. But the PS5 isn't going away meantime whether you're a GTA gamer or not.
@carlos82 I think a massive release of a game like gta generally give the industry abit of a shot because it makes more people aware of gaming again for abit. I know ubisoft and coupe others are expecting a boost in sales. Same happened with gta 5
I’ll buy PS5 pro day one.
Hopefully when GTA 6 hits there will be a cross progression option, that is if they do any implementation of GTA Online into GTA 6. I have a 1300-hour account on the Xbox Series X version that I’ve used since 2013 on the 360.
It’s been a year since I played GTA online and I’m just waiting for GTA 6 now.
Is a PS5 Pro really needed though? I haven't noticed any real issues with my PS5 yet, whatever I'm playing for however long the thing stays whisper quiet and only gets warm, so it's not like it's having its legs stretched. Although I'd probably pick one up if they wasn't silly money, with the gap getting ever smaller between generations I'd rather Sony be putting all their efforts into a PS6.
Doubt I will even see a difference from base ps5 to the pro...seen as I need analysis videos to see differences from PS4 and ps5 cross gen games most the time ....so doubt I will be getting one
I'd get one definitely, but I won't be stressing at launch to grab one at all costs or anything.
@Robocod "Sony is walking away from the PS5"
I hadn't heard this speculation at all tbh. The internet ties itself in knots jumping to conclusions sometimes. In a lot of cases it's just someone projecting wishful thinking.
If the PS5 Pro doesn't play any game at 4k60fps then I don't think they should even bother with it
I don't WANT there to be a mid-gen Pro model - I would prefer devs eke out the most out of this model and bring the next gen in 3-4 years. But if they do have a mid-gen model and it means less compromises and more games in 60fps as the gen goes on then I will be there Day 1 assuming the price is right. Similar to getting a GPU upgrade.
@guardianoftime God of war never runs at 120fps!there's a 120fps mode which runs between 70-90fps
I owned all 5 regular PlayStations but never a Pro model. This time again I’m perfectly fine with waiting for the PS6 (as long as my 5 won’t break down) so I actually see a real step up in performance. Games are still far removed from exploiting the real power of the regular PS5, so I rather see some more effort in that department than in the hardware.
@LiamOliver are you kidding?ff16 was 720p and less and was never really hitting 60fps and Jedi Survivor was exactly the same
@LiamOliver sub 60 fps experiences are happening more and more. FF16 struggled like he'll, FF7 rebirth is too and the next GTA is practically guaranteed to be at 30 and I don't know about anyone else but I don't want to be playing that at 30.
@TheStormGL agreed with you. Im stick with my fat (bought last mid year). Until the ps6 is out. Many of my friend just having a chance to bought 1 because of the stock scarcity due to the covid.
People need to stop putting so much weight on 4K because it's diminishing returns compared to other things. FF16 hit below 1080p at some points and that game was stunning. Just give me a locked 60 and more details on screen or RT options. And turn some already locked 60s into an uncapped to 120. I'll take that every day of the week than trying to push a 4K image which unless it was side by side I couldn't tell the difference in a moving game.
Here we go again with the marketing. Come PS6, it'd be the best place to play GTA6 and people would have to double dip. And then it's going to be remasters upon remasters with little boosts playing PS5 games on PS6. Rockstar haven't really cared about fps, they like 30fps, gameplay, realism and attention to detail is their main focus.
@ROTTIEMAN16 more than enough for me and the quality at the same time
@djhegzy there's better looking games that perform better, though . Neither one of those FF games look that good, though to warrant the poor performance - just shoddy work in my eyes.
@LiamOliver running GT7, SF6, Tekken 8, GTA5, Hogwarts Legacy and God of War Ragnarök at full speed and full ray tracing quality mode without any glitches whatsoever on a high end tv. What more is needed ? We don’t need a new console now, we need more games !
I won't be paying £500-700 for a PS5 Pro. If they price it there, then it becomes unreasonable.
The PS5 is currently really overpriced at £480. It should've come down significantly by now. When they were clearing the old disc stock at £380, that was the price or should've been and should be right now.
Even if the Pro means games can run 4k@60 within "Fidelity" mode, it's going to depend heavily on studios patching games to work properly, which means it won't happen.
With all the rumours stating that it will be using the same cpu cores. It's not going to be a 60fps on everything machine, much like the ps4 pro was not.
After Sony CEO said they can't really lower the price of the ps5, the ps5 Pro is going to be a very expensive bit of hardware that is not needed at all. The ps5 hardly has hardly got started.
If Sony really are going to release a pro console every gen, even when its not needed, I won't buy a ps6 at launch and will wait for the pro next gen.
Sony need to increase their profits, and releasing even more hardware
(Which you generally lose money on) is not the play they should be making at all. Infact it's quite literally the opposite releasing more niche hardware after psvr2.
Just wished that it released on PC on the same date as the consoles...
I'm trying desperately to work out the price of this. I think the PS5 pro was £100 more than the slim, so I'm guessing the ps5 pro will be at least £500 if the slim gets a price cut to £400. £500 is a lot of money.
@MattBoothDev The slim might drop to £400 when the pro releases, but I wouldn't hold your breath
@Fyz306903 yeah, I'm not going to 😞
If the Xbox was more compelling and selling better, Sony might have a fire up their rear end and decide to cut the cost to move more units, but that's not an issue for them.
@Andy22385 @ROTTIEMAN16 I didn't say things were perfect, but for the returns a Pro would give I feel it's not worth it, I'd MUCH rather efforts were put into making a PS6 able to handle RT, 90/120fps and 4k (which is lost on most people anyway) without skipping a beat. Time, effort and expense on something inbetween which will only appeal to a specific base isn't a good idea, I feel.
But then, I still play PS1 and 2 games, so clearly fidelity and frame rates aren't my highest priorities...
I highly doubt I'd be interested in a Pro model this time around. I'm perfectly happy with how games look and play on the current model and if PS5 standard isn't going to drop in price then I expect the Pro model will be way too expensive to justify a purchase.
I can see the allure of it from Sony's perspective to be able to claim they have the best console available to play GTA6 at launch. That could be a big boon for them.
@guardianoftime I play 3 of those 6 and don't have any issue with them (although I tend to play GT7 in VR). My TV can take full advantage of higher frame rates and VRR, if it's in the game.
Don't get me wrong, if they dropped a Pro that runs at 120fps with RT and all the gloss I'd be first in the queue, but they won't make it that much better because they'll have nowhere to go with the PS6. But right now I'm with you, I'd rather more games.
@Vil gaming is a luxury hobby. If one cannot afford it then one must abstain from it until everything else is in order. I find that many modern gamers forget this fact. No one is entitled to “affordable” hobbies. The fact is the gaming industry has been relaxed with price increased compared to every other sector in the economy. Which is why profits are smaller. Since the price of consoles and games have remained relatively the same. Despite costs of employees and everything else going up.
If they are ramping up production for a Pro this year, maybe that is why I can’t find a PS Portal.
@DennisReynolds yes exactly. IMO developers should have just focused on a solid 1440p for console games. This would allow for beautiful games to be made and not waste power on 4k just to say that something is truly 4K. Most would be okay with 1440P with upscaling to their 4K displays.
PS5 is still mostly gathering dust due to some weird incompatibilities with the DualShock 4 rumble feedback so I'm afraid my Pro is getting more use than "The Tub o' Lard" so it's not worth upgrading.
The PS4 Pro had a purpose - 4K displays.
The PS5 Pro is for - what? Massive shortcomings in the original model?
@sanderson72 The PS4 Pro also provided a resolution boost to a lot of PSVR games. I'm hoping similar is true for the PS5 Pro.
If the PS5 Pro gets rid of the need for reprojection in some PSVR games then I'll be buying one immediately.
Think of all the hypothetical games you could play with EVEN MORE power!
Eventually, that is.
Not this year, obviously.
I don't see the logic: sales are down, profit margins are getting slimmer, current PS5 price cuts are unlikely, and it remains doubtful if a Pro model can offer meaningful upgrades for an acceptable price point.
Just last week Hiroki Totoki stated that he wants the company to be aggressive when it comes to improving its gaming division’s profit margins, by "putting product lines together to make it affordable, without relying on steep discounts, to reasonably sell them to continue our commercial journey on a sustainable basis"
Releasing a PS5 pro would be moving in the opposite direction.
@MattBoothDev Sadly the days of console prices (or most high end electronics hardware) tumbling after launch are gone. Cost of goods and manufacture just don't come down like they used to, they can manage a small discount but not like the old days. Still PS5 can be had for around £410 today, which is fair price imo for the amount of tech inside.
PS5 Pro has to be priced right to succeed. I can't see it costing as much as £700. That would price far too many out, and sales would be relatively small. Without a large enough install base most devs likely wouldn't bother focussing on it much making it a less enticing proposition.
PS4 Pro cost the same as PS4 did at launch - £349, $399, €399. While I don't think they will quite manage that I think it won't be much more (£500 - £550) and they will likely permanently reduce the price of the newer cheaper PS5 model to (£400) to give tiers. Much more than that and surely it will fail.
Sony will pay for this half assed generation with their ps5 pro and ps6 sales. I for one won't be fooled by Cerny bigging up the next 'generational leap'.
The ps5 may as well have been called the ps4 pro 2 or something because that's all it is. No wonder there are so many cross generation games, it's because we havent really crossed generations, we've been scammed.
And probably also the remasters on PS6 and PS7, it is Rock$tar after all
So am I to assume that we've already seen the full power of the standard PS5?
I want to say automatic day one buy, but I know there will be scalpers.
@__jamiie you don't need to look far. Helldivers perform sub 40 FPS on any difficulty above hard for when the fights break. Lots of games already proved ps5 had it's limits reached.
@Bamila Or that some developers reached their limits? I just assume that optimization is not a priority as it will not increase the revenue.
Yes I will get a ps5 pro ,can never have enough power etc for gaming ,really looking forward to it and I think it'll be a gd upgrade specs wise as well,it'll be very Interesting to see
Has there actually been a game or one in the pipeline that has pushed / stretched the PS5 to its limits to justify a pro?
Most comments are mentioning 4k, 60fps and Ray tracing. Isn't this what we bought a base ps5 for in the first place? I'm feeling just a wee bit conned.
I’d hand over the money for one right now if I could. I can’t wait.
@PaulCapp Definitely. I mean, if the PS4 Pro can push 4K, even with checkerboarding, at 30fps then I think we assumed an 8K capable console would do 4K @ twice the frame rate as its dad.
Personally, I wish I'd have kept the £530 I paid for a disc PS5 and an extra controller in the bank as my SSD Pro is loading games at a very slightly slower rate (if at all) than the PS5 SSD and at least it can download multiple patches and games at once.
I do agree though that it does feel as if the standard ps5 hasn't reached full potential by some distance and I suppose the ps5 pro is an extra option ,I do love that Sony provide plenty options for gamers ,they have been fantastic imho ,portal,psvr2 etc etc and the ps5 pro will be another addition to get 1 when u choose if you do get 1 ,many gamers will stick with standard ps5/slim ,but all gd really as more options the better
I for one am still very happy with my launch model PS5. Given I'm about to spend £1000 on bringing my desktop up to date, I can't see wanting to replace the PS5 until part way into the PS6's lifecycle so long as it will still play recent releases at 4k/30-60 FPS. If it weren't for Windows 10 approaching end of life, and wanting to install mods, I would be quite happy playing everything on PS5, but seeing as I need to upgrade to be able to keep using my PC for productivity tasks and retrogaming, I may as well give it the grunt to play some more modern games too.
I'm excited to see what a Pro would have to offer but if it's digital only it'll never be a purchase from me.
@Shepherd_Tallon Oh look,I thoroughly agree it's YouTube clickbait & socials at its worst!🙄
But a bit like when Phil Spencer played to his audience softening them up with the we're handing out some unnamed Gamepass Xbox studio crumbs elsewhere, now Sony should do the same with Helldivers & let that be the narrative to spread from there.
Even channels/sites then talking up possible PS6 specs when an unannounced Pro hasn't even launched...or Sony stock crashed on slowing sales etc.
We can all debate did Covid/supply issues & cross gen affect PS5/Series X/S gaming...heck everyone easily forgets scaling for Switch specifications has equally affected "crossgen" as much as anything too with strong console numbers.
But agree its premature to write off this gen & treat next gen like its 12 months away. (Outside of Switch 2 which will presumably still do its own thing, especially if they plan to keep Ninty owners digital libraries upgrading).
Insofar as PS6 goes,it will be interesting if PS4 compatibility will be part of its design. I hope so, but we know Jim Ryan did say PS5 features had costs vs priority,so can't see that philosophy changing even with his retirement.
I don’t know, Sony themselves said they’re having trouble bringing the costs of consoles down, so if a PS5 Pro with better specs gets released there’s no way it’d come under $600, and we know how people will react to a $599 or higher…
@djhegzy I don’t really think those games are representative of what a properly optimised game can achieve on the base ps5. But, I do agree that they look horrible from an image quality perspective when playing in performance mode.
I played horizon: forbidden west on ps5 last year at 60fps and the game looked fantastic, so it is possible to achieve both higher frame rates and impressive image quality. The problem is that in order for this to happen a developer has to invest the appropriate resources in optimisation - something only first party studios seem to be doing on PlayStation.
There are a lot of people using Nvidia’s 4090 gpu that still struggle to achieve decent performance in some pc titles, despite having 10x the raw power of the ps5. Power is relevant to some degree, but it means very little if a game is poorly optimised.
@DennisReynolds I was about to say the same thing.
There is a reason image reconstruction is such so heavily researched right now.
The only thing I can see a PS5 Pro doing is maybe adding a little more RT capabilities and/or pushing the native rendering resolution a little higher than 1080p for the 60fps performance mode for certain games. Some kind of image reconstruction is still going to be necessary.
I'm not exactly sure if that's going to worth the extra cost of admission.
@Stevemalkpus
What games aren't 60fps?
@GamingFan4Lyf I can see it making 120hz gaming better and more consistent.
@DennisReynolds True. I kind of forgot about 120Hz capabilities (probably because I don' t have a TV that supports it).
Seems like 120Hz is more used to enable 40fps modes than actually achieving 120fps these days.
Perhaps a Pro could push wider game adoption depending on just how much of a leap we are looking at here.
Nothing about this generation has been impressive enough to justify the huge costs involved to be part of it as a customer. Nor the huge costs to deliver something quality as a developer. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X have been massively underwhelming IMO. The fact that we're even talking about a PS5 Pro is hugely disappointing to me.
Where are the incredible games that could never have been before?
This whole generation seems to have sold itself entirely on the fact that the consoles include an SSD. It's an expensive joke and a huge letdown.
It's been 3.5 years since PS5 was released and we're still having a bunch of PS4 games and now they're preparing to launch a PS5 Pro, even though most games out there are still PS4 cross green titles? And who said that Rockstar is planning on making GTA6 a 60fps game??? Hell, it was a miracle that they released a 60fps patch for RDR.
I'm not interested in a Pro, if anything it won't be a huge gap between both base and Pro consoles and probably by the end of this gen, the Pro will be struggling to run most games at 60fps, pretty much like it was with PS4 Pro. To me it's an useless upgrade and I'll be gladly skipping it, just like i did with the PS4 Pro. I'm better off with a PS6 with BC capabilities.
And i agree with other people here, this generation has been VERY underwhelming
I waited for the PS4 Pro last gen and don't regret it. Now doing the same this gen. I'll be getting my PS5 this time next year or so, depends on how much of my backlog I can play through.
@TheStormGL completely agree. I heard people say that even up today we are only using 50-60 % of the original ps4's potential graphical power. Smart programmers will always be able to get better results on the same hardware. The Ps5 is insanely powerful and yet it's not enough. Once the Ps6 arrives people will feel the Ps5 pro just won't cut it.
I just barely upgraded to the PS5 “slim” specifically for FFVII Rebirth. I love the console, but barring that one game and Spider-Man 2 I haven’t seen much that really justified (personally) the upgrade to that let alone a “pro”. Most games are still getting PS4 versions…and they still look pretty great overall.
Of course I am still playing games on 1080p tv/projector and from where I sit…I can barely see any pixels as is. The main thing I have really enjoyed about PS5 is the 60 fps in the performance modes in games. That’s where I prefer it over PS4. Graphics mode on PS5 doesn’t do much for me because of my 1080p situation, but the frame rates are glorious.
If anything, I don’t want to upgrade to a 4KTV (for games) yet because of how upscaling looks. I like a crisp picture even with less pixels per inch.
PS5 is finally the machine we all wanted for true 1080p/60fps. Consistent 4K 60fps on graphics intensive games seems to be a way off.
Those that are ready for an upgrade and can afford to do so, that’s great, and I am a tad envious perhaps, but I still find a lot of joy playing my old NES and SNES…so I can wait and see how it all pans out!
Most of the problematic aspects of major PS5 games came from clown-esque implementation of FSR. The games are rock solid engines and chassis but they just mess up the paint job and trim horrendously and get a bad rap as a result.
The same clown stuff can happen on a PS5Pro or a 7900 XTX, if you are stuck using a specific FSR setting.
No reason to buy ps5 pro anymore. Ps6 is planning to be released 2027, unofficially confirmed by sony ceo as they said ps5 is on its last legs
@JDCII
I agree ps5 only gives us a choice between 1080p@60fps or upscaled 4K@30fps. I dont think it can compete with high end gaming pc as even my mid range rtx 4070 gives me 4K@120fps.
@themightyant Considering I paid £430 in 2021, then £410 is terrible in 2024.
£380 in 2023 was the right price but it was only temporary.
Despite this generation being somehow underwhelming, an upgraded HW would make sense for more enthusiastic individuals, to keep up, ensuring that all future games will able to have a performance mode targeting 60FPS until the end of the generation.
I just hope it can deliver this regardless of the resolution. 4K is a waste of resources, to leave that and the 8K for the cinema on massive screens...
1440p would be a very decent target already while able to maintain 60FPS, or depending on the game, to see more unlocked modes even, and maybe the presence of RT effects more often in certain games
A wider VRR range window would be welcome and a proprietary upscaler, like rumours suggested would be also interesting to see.
I’m up for a PS5 Pro as long as it’s about the same price as the base PS5 is now and the base is discounted.
@Vil Yeah but GTA 6 is rumoured to cost a billion to make. If it costs that much to actually push the hardware these days then I wouldn't expect it from anyone but rockstar who are practically guaranteed millions of sales from an evergreen title and loads of revenue from microtransactions.
i hope it’s not so i don’t have to waste any money , rather play it on PC
Not for me, I’ll stick with my OG model, only new system I want is the new Nintendo Switch 2 one. But for big screen gaming my OG PS5 will do. Looking forward to a couple of games coming out.
@Vil what industry pushing games does nintendo have ?? all of their games could still be gamecube material . pretty much all industry pushing game advances happen from third parties and unreal engine , even sonys astro playroom is more advanced and industry pushing with its controller gimmick than the wii or wii u/switch ever was
Am I the only kinda bummed that Sony is releasing a PS5 Pro version already. I got my PS5 14 months ago. When they started to become more available. God, Sony is still releasing PS4 upscaled games on the PS5 still.
There no game yet that uses PS5 graphical power… most are just PS4 looking games… there is no reason for a Pro console.
At least, not yet.
@guardianoftime @guardianoftime doing that at 60 fps. This doesn't affect games coming out so I don't know why people wouldn't want better equipment. If you don't buy it it doesn't affect you at all
@thiagoauler there's plenty of reasons. The second we.started to see games coming out that could only be at 30 fps there's a need for one.
@LiamOliver but this wouldn't affect the PS6 so let people have something better for now if they want it, lots will be 4 years and want an upgrade. 7-8 years is a long ass time. And 4K/120 with RT is a pipedream tbh for the PS6 . Even the most powerful PCs now are still struggling with even 4K/60 with RT. And the PS6 won't be any more powerful than those are.
If we're talking the same type of upgrade as we got from PS4 to PS4 Pro (I'm going to assume that's the case) then I for one won't be bothering.
Never felt as cheated in my life with the PS4 Pro, a complete waste of money.
If my OG PS5 ever breaks then I'd be all over it but it certainly wasn't a worthy "upgrade"
@TrickyDicky99 for once you've posted a comment that's actually sensible and one I agree with.
@Vil You're reaction is quite weird you expect the same price for better hardware? Their prices are better indeed but what do you expect with the specs they have in their hardware. I love Nintendo but I think your reaction is strange you even say it at the end of your reaction their hardware is a lot worse and they made you people premium price with for a oled screen alone.
Everybody thought the ps5 was gonna be 4k 60fps if you remember the hype and if it's already reached it's full potential then I still feel conned.
@SgtTruth
I see what you're saying and if it was just a case of paying the difference between the price of the OG model and the Pro to be able to upgrade id completely agree with you
If you could trade your old model for full price and just pay the difference then yeah not a bad deal.
But they way I see it is I'll be probably paying £550 - £600 for the Pro version which basically has pretty minimal upgrades and doesn't justify it's price tag IMO
For those going on about cost, I'm pretty sure the smart move nowadays is going to be to upgrade every 1½ console generations, unless you have money to burn. PS4 Pro owners can probably get away with waiting another 3 years for the PS6, and then wait for the PS7 Pro after, and there'll only be a handful of games you have to wait for the new hardware on. As someone who bought the PS5 at launch rather than upgrading my PC, and who's now about to finally upgrade my rig, I'll probably hold out for the PS6 Pro before buying a new console as the PS5 is still great.
based on the sales of the ps4 pro, i don't expect sony to sell many ps5 pros. makes you wonder why they are doing this in the first place since it will do nothing to increase their install base as most people who purchase one are already in sony's ecosystem.
ps4 pro sold a paltry 14m units as of 3 years ago... thus, ps4 pro only accounts for roughly 12% of the ps4's 120m total units sold. won't be surprised if the ps5 pro goes on to sell half of that. this is a release purely for faux hype and giving media outlets something to talk about... an expensive commericial is what it is. clearly the games, or lack thereof, aren't doing enough on their own to keep the hardware moving at a pace sony is happy with.
@Vil I’m not really sure about that. How many games are we already getting with a 30fps ray trace mode or 60fps no ray tracing?
I’m definitely getting one if it means I can run every game at 60fps max settings & PSVR 2 games have reprojection off & graphics closer to the flat screen version.
@Stevemalkpus maybe one of you can play on the pc because cross play or did u need the 2nd ps5 because you would gameshare?
@RawnDawn for that price itll get you a low end pc. High end pc will probably cost you upwards of 2 to 5 grand..
@SgtTruth you forget ps4 pro came out before covid so the price now would be inflated..
@BansheeNorn Yup, which is why I'll only spend 650 max for it, I already have an okay pc. More than that I would just save up for a good pc
