It's been on sale for just under a month, but Balatro has already reached a huge sales milestone. After reaching the 500,000 mark after only 10 days, the indie roguelike has now doubled that figure, now having sold over a million copies.
The announcement came via the game's official social channels:
Developed mostly by a single person, Balatro is a roguelike card game that has you playing poker hands to score points and using Jokers and other modifiers to enhance your deck in numerous ways. The amount of permutations and potential for outrageously high scores means the game has really struck a chord, and it's become one of 2024's surprise breakout hits.
The above post teases more to come for Balatro, so we suspect it'll only become bigger and better as the year goes on. Have you been playing this one? What are your thoughts on Balatro? Tell us in the comments section below.

Well deserved. I love seeing success stories like this for solo devs.
Having recently got the platinum / 100% for Slay the Spire I can easily see this now being my go to "one more try" game for the next 500 hours...I really am enjoying it.
Fun but I’m struggling to beat a single run. My tactics clearly need some work. Any tips appreciated!
@Ico1977 I'm by no means an expert - only finished the first four decks on base difficulty so far but I've just been having fun with it and as I've unlocked more jokers & vouchers have started to get a better idea of what jokers synergise well. Then just trying to streamline the deck accordingly.
Good luck!
@Ico1977 I have 10 wins and some on the next stake. I go hard into two pair and work off that. Always grab an extra hand if you can. Blue deck is probably the best one to go with till you get the hang of it.
I have absolutely no clue what any of the above comments mean but i think im going to buy this. Ive seen nothing but praise for it. May grab it on switch tho as it sounds like a good for some portible play.
@Ico1977 Play enough to open up the good jokers. That’s it. That’s the secret. The jokers you start opening up with x multipliers are game breaking. You’ll still lose to BS boss blinds sometimes but you’ll win often. Game is way too dependent on RNG.
@Kidfunkadelic83 If I had a switch it would definitely be the way to go for me. The time-sink on a portable device for a game as addictive as this would be a concern though!
It’s coming to IOS, so playing it on an IPad will be the best possible way to play this. Infinitely better than the switch or Steam deck.
Slay the Spire on an IPad Pro can be life consuming 😅
I'm kinda mixed on it atm. It's really fun on the base difficulty but it gets increasingly frustrating on the higher difficulties.
I got only one gold stake win so far and it wasn't fun at all.
Going for the platinum trophy on this one will make everybody go insane.
I'm loving this game- bought it on switch and it is taking over all my free time!!! Works a treat on the switch, you can use the touchscreen and suits the handheld format perfectly. Happy for the devs and if they add extra stuff would be a bonus. For the price this is a bargain for me, certainly scratches the slay the spire itch
