Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been revealed as the official title of the superhero game Uncharted creator Amy Hennig is making at Skydance New Media. It's slated to release next year, and stars Captain America and Black Panther during World War II. A trailer was revealed during a GDC livestream, which you can catch above.
"In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Skydance New Media and Marvel Games share an original story where an ensemble of four heroes must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy," the new YouTube description teases. As well as the two recognisable Marvel superheroes, you'll also get to play as a soldier and what looks like a female spy. Using Unreal Engine 5, the trailer is said to be running in real-time.
This is a single player, narrative-focused experience where you'll play as the four heroes at different points throughout the game. You'll take control of "a young Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a United States soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris".

I forgot I was watching a game trailer there for a minute the graphics are that good.
A Marvel game set in 1943? Hook it to my veins.
Got my attention. Just hope doesn't turn out to be live service bull crap or something
So this time the Nazis are no zombies?
EDIT: Here, the protagonists seem to be the zombies. At least their conversations are brainless.
Interested to see gameplay; looks very ambitious!!
This might be my favourite trailer of the year so far
Trailer looks good! I needed to re-read the text to make sure it definitely did say “single player” and not “GaaS”.
Proof, as ever, will be in the gameplay though (and being released without being bugged to Hydra) 🤞
Single player!!!! Really excited now, the setting’s cool even if it does feel a bit random.
No gameplay, no hype. Superheroes are a huge turnoff for me, but the WWII setting is very intriguing! Proof will be in the pudding, but Hennig definitely has the chops to make this good.
Whoa. Was NOT expecting something this interesting. Excellent trailer
Pretty great trailer, certainly got my attention. If that's real-time it has to running on some super high spec pc. Eager to see how actual gameplay looks though.
CGI trailers don't mean much, gameplay is what counts. I also don't see much point in the 2 randoms you get to play as, maybe they are from the comics but 99% of people will never of heard of them, hopefully they add some decent variety to the gameplay at least.
Love the concept (helps that Cap and Panther are two of my favorites). But without gameplay, or any real idea of what the game will be like, I can't get much excited for it.
@rusty82 "Single player narrative focused" It would be a crime if it was live service bs.
Graphically this might be the best looking game I've seen this gen. Now to see some game play. The trailer did enough to get me excited.
@MrMagic If the two randos help ground the setting, I can see them adding quite a bit to the game. I'm just worried their gameplay will translate to some generic, boring war shooter.
For anyone doubting, they said this was all pulled from in-engine (Unreal 5.4). It's not CGI. Though obviously it isn't gameplay, either.
I’m not the biggest Marvel fan, but the premise of the game does have me interested!
Sounds/looks interesting. But…
It’s a super hero game. So why do I want to play as a boring army guy, or what a large majority of gamers hate stealth sections with a spy?!
Plus it will be weird when my army guy can kill the same enemies as a superhero.
Who is Skydance New Media and why have I never heard of them before?
This trailer is fantastic!
@RoomWithaMoose Yeah they could help ground the setting without being playable though. When people buy superhero games they want to play as the superhero, it's one of the reasons people complained about Mary Jane. I personally have no problem with it as long as it is done well.
@MFTWrecks It may as well be CGI. For In-engine it does look great but it can also be very deceptive. Starfield is proof of that.
@Nepp67 they often hide these things until later so I won't be holding my breath just in case
Holding out on any opinion until I actually see some gameplay.
This looks so bleeping cool.
@Ken_Kaniff Put zero stock in cinematics. That's all this was.
Probably not for me as Black Panther and Captain America are very uninteresting to me but I'm glad it's a narrative single player game. Hope fans of these heroes enjoy!
Looks interesting but please, be single player and leave the massive open world with openable chests, hundreds of collectables and copy pasted side missions concept OUT of it.
An Uncharted-like, linear, action packed game with a highly detailed environment would be the best approach.

Is 2024 and we're still getting cgi movie trailers for games 🙄 I'll think about getting excited after I see what the game actually plays like unless this actually a Sega CD game so this is actual gameplay without the button promps.
@captainsandman Oh I got that, but this is Amy Henning not EA, or Ubisoft. So I have faith this will be a cinematic treat.
Yeah, that is 100% on the list right now.
I've been over superhero stuff for a minute, but Amy Hennig's involvement definitely intrigues me.
@MrMagic That's why I clarified it's still not gameplay.
Definitely looking forward to this. Amy did a great job with the Uncharted series until she couldn't, and I'll forgive her for Forspoken since she was only one of several people to get credit for writing that. I'm treating this as a fresh start.
I also can't stand all this Superhero stuff , utter drivel.
Single player, story driven, at last something worth getting excited about. This looks stunning. With Amy Hennig at the helm it should something very special.
It's always nice to relive the year 1943
Cinematic trailers aren't worth getting hyped for. Unless it's in game footage. Don't care.
@matekomlosi So you didn't actually read any thing that was written.
Oh, a Marvel game! Everybody cherish this special moment!
@KilloWertz Hennig and the other famous writers advertised didn't end up actually writing much of anything that ended up in Forspoken, they changed the script early on and brought on new bottom tier part time writers that were cheaper. Fortunately that tragedy is all on the no names. Sadly the association tarnished their image though.
In the final credits Whitta and Hennig are credited as "concept by" rather than writing credits. According to whitta, what was there didn't resemble his concepts either lol
Please please please let this be great! 🙏🏼
I’m seated for a gameplay-focused trailer, but this cinematic trailer left me full of intrigue.
@NEStalgia I was not aware of that as I stopped following the game after a while, so thanks. Kind of weird to do that when they had to undoubtedly pay the others as well, but whatever I suppose.
Yeah, another Marvel game may not sound exciting on the surface, but I'm more looking forward to it as a chance for Hennig to get some "redemption" even though she didn't write much of Forspoken. Even if it is just another Marvel game, I'll take another game done by her over some of the other crap.
This might be one of the first games that truly unlocking the power of PS5 and Xbox Series x.
@pharos_haven I did and it doesn't rule out the boring open world aspect, unfortunately.
Well they definitely captured that stilted MCU dialogue style. It does look great though, it's a shame more current gen games haven't used UE5. Rebirth definitely should have instead of UE4.
Looks interesting. Amy never fails to deliver a good narrative.
Hard pass, for so many reasons.
Yes! 4 character single player game. I was worried seeing the 4 characters that this was going to be yet another co-op live service where I'd be told to "get your friends together" - friends I don't have.
@KilloWertz Yeah Gary Whitta talked about that and while he couldn't speak for Hennigs part specifically it's pretty clear they were hired for an early draft, briefly, whitta was on the lore and world building, Hennig on story, they used that for marketing and probably selling the game to Sony execs, and then came in and wanted a completely different concept. Apparently the version they did wasn't even about a girl from the modern world entering Athia, and little to none of his lore ended up in the game, so I'm sure even less of Hennigs actual narrative and dialog got in since it wasn't even for those characters or plot.... I looked up the writers they got. Most aren't even full time writers, it's stage actors and indie film directors that moonlight as writers. Really terrible. Square is pretty deplorable too often.
Shame Hennigs redemption is just.... Marvel though...
@Fishnpeas yup. It's a well known fact that black people didn't exist in 1943 Germany. Not a single one. Must be the diversity.
Dead on arrival
This looks awesome.
@MomsSpaghetti I remember that lesson as well.
My palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy
There was vomit on my sweater already, and you were there also
@MomsSpaghetti Depends on whom you ask
@Ken_Kaniff I do as well.
@QiaraIris skydance new Media is a division of skydance media who produce all kinds of movies etc. You've probably watched countless movies without being aware of their involvement although the huge skydance logo before them kind of gives it away.
The game is looking really good so far, hope they show some gameplay soon though.
Hope this turns out to be great, really loved the Spider man games, Guardians of the Galaxy and Midnight Suns
4 heroes? I only see two
@naruball it's also a well known fact that the ones who were there stood out like a sore thumb in occupied france so putting them on the street would have been an instant death sentance.
Grow up.
